Q:builders have messed it up..i live somewhere hot..2 attempts of cement laying and then a green paint over it which i've had to scrape off...the paint still keeps coming off tho when mopped...can you suggest please some sort of sealant i can get bought in england and sent over to me?just to make it look better and 'seal' in the colour..cheers :)
Gray cement sealant paint or epoxy the entire floor. Epoxy comes in different colors and is rather appealing to the eye if properly applied. Then you can add sparkles to the epoxy paint or other decorative stuff. Go to the larger hardware stores and shop for epoxies and their additives.
Q:cement
There are many types of cement. One is portland cement which is commonly used in construction. Please refer to this helpful links: OKorder
Q:I am installing chainlinnk fence 4' high and I am traying to figure how much cement is needed per post? I am putting them about 15quot; deep.
There are several options that you could pursue. First things first, are you required to pull a permit from the local building department? If you are required to pull a permit and are planning to, the best way to start is to go to the building department and ask them for the local code requirements. Some building departments will have pre-printed literature for this purpose, and many of the inspectors are friendly and willing to walk you through the requirements. If you're not required to pull a permit you can remove the concrete and dig new holes for the posts and anchor them with new concrete. This will be a lot of work... if you choose this method I would highly recommend using either pressure treated 4 X 4 posts or galvanized posts. Anything wood in contact with dirt or concrete will rot if it's not pressure treated (pt). Another option might be to buy the 4 x 4 pt posts and attach them to the existing posts from the chain link fence. If the existing posts are anchored sufficiently in concrete you can buy brackets from a local hardware store that will wrap around the metal post and have a flat surface with holes for screws to attach to the wood post. This will solve your height problem of the existing posts. To answer your other question, I don't believe that using L brackets alone will be sufficient support, as soon as you have a strong wind it will bend the brackets and the whole fence will go down. Using the L brackets in combination with the existing posts would be a good idea. You can attach the brackets with concrete screws in which case you will want to pre-drill holes to keep the screws from breaking off, or you could use a ram-set.
Q:i am currently building a pond, but instead of using pond liner, we are using cement, with this still keep it sealed from leakage? (the cement will have no joints, all one peice)
Concrete is unforgiving and will crack. And it is not repairable. I recommend using a flexible liner no matter where you live. It's cheaper and will last for 20 years at least. Sealing the concrete adds another huge cost to the building of the pond. Stick with a butyl liner.
Q:The cement I'm wondering about it 3 feet deep and 2 feet wide. I'm wondering how long it takes to dry completely??Thanks!
About 24 hours for you to walk on it. 7 days for it to get completely hard, and 28 days to reach its ultimate strength.
Q:So not too long ago I got a permanent retainer glued to the top of my teeth. My sister told me that her permanent retainer once fell off and it got me paranoid. I just go it on so the cement is relatively fresh but I rub the glue with my tongue and now I have a question... How strong is the cement? Can I eat and drink whatever or will certain foods and drinks ruin and wear the glue away? Should I brush and floss there gentler as to not wear the glue away? I hear all these stories of where the glue sometimes falls off in little chunks or something and they have to get their retainer re-glued on and so I ask how long will the glue last on my teeth before it starts to fade? Is the cement/glue strong enough to last awhile? Etc.
Whether or not it comes off is dependent on two things, really: 1: you not eating dumb things, like gum or air heads, etc. and 2: your bite. Some just do. The glue will stay as long as the bond took. Some may chip off from your bite, but there's not a lot you can do aside from being careful to stay away from foods that you are not supposed to eat. The glue can last years and years. It's the same stuff we use to cement crowns and it lasts decades. But adults don't do the same dumb stuff with their mouths that kids do.
Q:what's the right way of mixing it? the instructions said 1 part of water for 5 parts of cement. i poured 1 cup of water to 5 cups of the cement but i the right texture didn't come out. it's too dry.

Q:All I can find is on Wikipedia, but I need more than that!I would be really grateful!!Thank you!
You are looking at lime based mortar and concrete (opus siginum to the Romans). I have used ordinary builders lime, dry in bags, and mixed it as you would with cement 5:1, and let it rest for around 24 hours before use. the great thing about lime based mortar is that when it begins to go hard, you can add more water and mix it again without loss of strength as would be the case with O.P.C. It does take a long time to set, weeks if the weather is cold and wet but the resulting mortar is very good for stone and soft brick as it will allow the structure to move and settle, also when frost freezes the water in the wall, it is the lime mortar that is blown out, not the stone or brick.
Q:This isn't for me, my bf is redoing his new house and he got cement on his hands, but didnt wash it off in time. it's been a couple hours right now, and he tried soap and water (like that'd work lol) and oil. I suggested a nail file to get it to flake off, but he doesnt have one.would that work?please tell me if there's anything that'd work. some sort of solution or a file or something? or will he have to go to the doctor and like, get it peeled off or something? lol
Yikes! Your boyfriend needs to go see a doctor for this. The cement on his skin can cause a chemical burn, and he needs to get it off. It's important that he go now, even if the only place open at this hour is the Emergency Room. If at all possible, he should bring the package that the cement was in so the doctors can see for sure what they're dealing with. Also, if your bf has access to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS for short) for the cement, he should bring that to the hospital too. Actually, the MSDS would probably be the more useful thing to bring if that's all he has access to. He might insist that it's no big deal and that his hands will be fine. Guys like to act tough like that. Ignore him and drag him to the hospital if you have to. ;)
Q:i recently removed the tilling from my basement floor and now my basement is just plain cement flooring. What are the steps i need to take to tile over it?
If you removed a ceramic tile either bu sure to scrape /break off existing thinset to get a smooth surface. Or you can use a self leveling mortar to smooth it out. You need a smooth clean surface to start out with. Then you can tile it.
