- Q: where to find plastic covering for basement windows?
- local hardware stores should have it
- Q: how do u use hair dryer to put plastic on windows?
- first follow the instrctions to get the plastic in place. then run the hairdryer over the plastic, back and forth, till the plastic is taut. read the instructions on the kit.yes, you need to have a kit. you can get them at walmart or most hardware stores. figure a coupld of bucks per window. all the best.
- Q: I saw an online video that we can go to our local home depot etc and buy kits where we use a blow drying and put plastic on the inside of our windows. How much does this really help in saving on energy costs for those of you who know this kind of stuff. I am on a very limited budget, so I am looking at those,
- If you have the double pane windows, don't use the film. It creates too much heat between the double pane windows and causes their seals to pop. The film also cuts sun so if you have plants, they will be negatively affected. Heavy drapes will do the same thing as the film and in the winter, when you want the additional heat, you can just open the drapes during the day and get sun, but you can't remove the film.
- Q: I have a 97 Wrangler soft top - plastic windows. What is the best way or product to use? I can barely see out my windows!
- car shampoo is the best to clean your plastic window, because they will keep your plastic window turn brown or spoted (like when u used a detergent soap) for best result do not let your car get exposure by direct hit from the sunlight when washing your car
- Q: I accidently put window paint on the back window of my friend's convertible. Now he says its stained, I really need to get it off. Any ideas?!
- problematic water stains are hassle-loose in city water structures . I somewhat have stumbled on in case you wash your vehicle in a degreaser, then dry with a drying fabrics like an Absorber . thoroughly do away with the water out of your living house abode windows and physique. Then use a cleanser wax in liquid style like mothers, or black ice. this eliminates the inital hardwater stain ,then use a carnuba wax like mothers or black ice. basically do small aspects of the vehicle at a time like 0.5 the hood or fender as dried wax is greater stable to do away with.the carnuba wax seals the paint from contamints and provides you an superb shine . now for the living house abode windows use a foaming window cleanser like invisable glass as this is composed of amonia and is danger-unfastened for tint.
- Q: When is it ok to take the plastic off my windows for summer? (the weatherization plastic that you blow-dry tight in the fall) I want some fresh air in my house but am not sure if it's the right time yet. I live in upstate NY.
- When you know you'll be comfortable in the house without the plastic on the windows. Some people are comfortable when the weather gets into the 50's, some at other temperatures.
- Q: Ok so me my bf moved in together last may and have had about a 115-138 dollar power bill every following month. All of a sudden the past 2 months our bill came in at $200 bux! Iam so frustrated bc I always keep stuff turned OFF lights TV's ect. When they aren't being used..Constantly goen behind him turning crap OFF!BTW (Annoying) Decembers bill came in at 206+late fee!? I thought wow ok it is cold outside lately maybe its the heater? Then this months came in at $238 iam astonished dnt know how 2 pay it! So i put plastic from an old shower curtain up over windows even though i was told use plastic painters would use:) all i had was shower curtain! Will this even drasticly help reduce bill!? Could it also be that our hot water pipes aren't covered? Idk if they are or not but can find out really quick! Plz any real helpful answers will be much appreciated!
- Whatever plastic you put over windows will do no good at all unless it's completely sealed along all the edges and creates an air space between the window and the plastic. You didn't say if you did that or not. It will, in any case, not make a huge difference in your bill to put plastic on the windows even if it is totally sealed and done properly. Some difference, sure, but not a lot. Yes, it's the heat that is making those huge power bills. Lights and TV don't use that much. Heating and cooling are what really cost you. I don't know how cold it is where you are, but it's not all that cold where I am, a few degrees below zero at night is the coldest we get around here. I have electric heat and electric everything else. My normal summer electric bill is about $30 a month. The bill I am about to pay is going to be $150 a month. That's for just me living here, I don't usually keep the place more than about 63F, I'm very conservative with power use, and we pay relatively low power rates here. Your large bill doesn't look too bad from my point of view. You're paying a lot less per person for December/January than I am. I don't know what temp you heat your house to. If it's more than 65f, turn it down and wear some extra clothes.
- Q: Have very little budget to work with, paid Marshall Construction of Kalamazoo to do the roof, haven't seen him since (Even with the contract), windows are in really poor condition and need to be replaced but don't have the funds to do it (Lost job like everyone else in Michigan). I have almost a zero budget to do this thanks to people like Marshall construction. Any suggestions how to get this 900 sqft home to stay warm without the furnace always working?
- Plastic on the windows really does work.. I lived in a really old house in Ohio and the windows were so bad that you could feel the cold air coming in... We used the window kits and it really kept the heat in ! We also used some plastic opaque sheeting on the outside windows which didn't look too great on the outside but, it helped greatly. Also, in our basement we have a device hooked up to our dryer.. It looks like a standard dryer hose but, instead of blowing all the nice hot air outside it's got a fine mesh screen and it blows the hot air back inside the house.. GREAT for when you are doing laundry. We also use a newer style baseboard heater in our main living room/family room. We bought the heater a few summers ago when it was on clearance..It's very safe and energy efficient. I also use heavy curtains to keep heat in a particular room. We keep our thermostate at around 60-64 degrees.... In our new house it's a 1700 square ft. ranch.. We are fortunate enough to have a wood burning stove.. Which has cut our gas bill in half ! Good luck
- Q: So we just moved into an old home that is notorious for being difficult to keep warm in the winter. The previous tenants had plastic on the windows to keep the cold out. Well, its July here and keeping the cold out is no longer a concern. The plastic looks terrible and if its not serving a purpose, I'd like to take it down for the summer and fall season. So, is the plastic keeping the heat out right now? Does it serve a purpose?
- gives a dead space between the inside and out air. if you are running AC leave it. Cooling could cost as much as heat. If you take it down now, winter will find you putting something else up like it. There are some clear plastics you could install neatly and it looks like glass.
- Q: My mom has plastic windows on the inside of the house. How do i take them off for the summer?
- im not sure i know what you mean...explain and i'll try answer afterwards? sorry
