Q: I need the wiring codes for a factory radio to install a new one.

Q: Having some trouble wiring fixture it seems to just stay on with the switch doing nothing.. here's the deal I have three different wires coming from ceiling power in, power out, and I believe switch.. there was a priovious light there so I know its correct just don't what wires go with what all help will be appreciated thanks
Identify which wire goes where. The power in and the power out and the switch get confusing to anyone. In most cases they are all wired together and a jumper is used to wire the light. Except the return wire from the switch which is connected to the light. For a wire system using NM cable (romex) the power in is wired to the switch, the white in the switch cable is marked with black tape at each end and it is connected to the black of the power in cable the black from the switch is wired to the light, the rest of the wires are made up color to color and a short jumper is used from the whites to the light.
Q: How much does it cost to install telephone wires in your household?Does it cost around $200.00 ?
actualy no it cost around 200 bucks to get the line operating its pretty much just an overpriced activation fee becuase no1 really uses telephone lines they just get like dsl lines which is high speed internet/land phoneline
Q: Okay, I just started tearing into my partially finished basement of the home I bought last week. Some of the electrical wiring is interesting to say the least.I have a junction box in the basement. One wire connects directly to the panel, another out to an outlet, and the third goes up and out to half the house. All of this is 14/2 except the quot;thirdthat runs up and out. This is wired with 14/3 but the third wire isn't connected to anything. Should I be concerned considering every outlet in the house works?
I'm going to contradict some other answers here... Your handyman is wrong about being able to easily add a grounded receptacle (another reason why 'handymen' should not be touching electrical work). Please hire a licensed electrician for electrical work. The metal jacket on old BX cable is NOT approved as a grounding means. This is known in the National Electrical Code as Type AC (armored cable) wire. The old BX version of this does not meet the specifications called for by current codes. Therefore its metal jacket cannot be used as a grounding means. Since you do not have a grounding means at the receptacle, the only Code-approved replacements are either a non-grounding receptacle (2-prongs), or a GFI receptacle that is marked as No Equipment Ground on the cover plate. Unfortunately, neither is likely to solve your particular problem. The surge protectors usually have to be grounded to perform their job and even installing the GFI will not give you one. I'm afraid that your only good answer is to have a licensed electrician run a new wire and install a new receptacle for you. UPDATE: Sorry Fred, I will not put my code book away. I make part of my living fixing the work of handymen who thought they knew what they were doing. This is the second time, recently, that I have seen you giving out bad electrical advice that you are obviously not qualified to give. Please stop before someone gets hurt from your advice. I wish I could give your update another thumbs down.
Q: im gettin a amp and sub for my car and was wondering how would i make a wiring kit for it ... i have basic knolage of wires but thats about it thanks in advance
the wiring kit is usually: - low gauge cable of certain length (x2) - rca cable of a certain length (x1) - small power connect cable (x1) seeing as these things are already pretty much in their simplest form, I don't see the practicality of making your own wiring kit. just buy one.
Q: Kind of a confusing question I guess. I want to cut a wire that contains 3 other wires and splice into them then reconnect them. is all I need relatively the same gauge wire or is it potentially different type like some sort of special speaker wire..? Should be one positive one negative and the other some sort of signal for sound. (Microphone to a speaker). All I need is standard copper wire?
Hello Rocky: You need to be more specific. What are you attempting to do? I know you want to splice a three-ply wire, but what is your end purpose?
Q: I recently bought a stereo for my truck. What is a good average gage for a ground wire? Speaker wire? Power wire? Last but not least a speaker control (remote) wire? If it helps, I am running a 760 watt pioneer amp on two 12 inch subs. Thanks
You should run at least 10 Gage power and ground wires. I would recommend 14 Gage speaker wire.
Q: Does anyone know what color the neutral safety wire is on a 1995 suburban? The one in the ignition harness.
It is usually white, or sometimes gray.
Q: Thermostat has two red wires two black wires. The baseboard has one red one black wire.
I'm not sure I understand how you're trying to hook this up. It sounds like you've got two pairs of black and white wires? Were these installed with the intention of supporting a 220 volt device? You really should be seeing a black and a red wire, and measuring 220 volts between them. Try measuring between the two black wires - you'll either get 220 volts, or nothing (if they're on the same leg). What connections are available at the heater, and how are they labeled?
Q: Who sells just 4 gauge power and ground wire so I can do the big 3 upgrade?
You okorder /... It's also available with black insulation and in 2 gauge. Parts Express also sells appropriate ring terminals.
