- Q: I keep having a dream (at least once a week) where I'm working on electrical wiring in someone's house. I'm either wiring a circuit panel, pulling wire for a new circuit, etc. I'm 16 years old.
- Electrical wiring would be a symbol of the way someone is wired. Whose house are you doing the wiring?
- Q: I was sitting in my living room, when I heard a loud POP. A couple minutes later, I went to the refrigerator and seen that it wasn't working (no power). I checked the fuse box, and there is a fuse blown. I tried to reset it, but it just makes a loud pop noise, and flips. It will not reset. There is nothing plugged into those outlets other than the refrigerator and our water dispenser machine. These same two things have been plugged in for years, without any issues. Is this most likely a short somewhere in the wiring?
- If the fuse in the fuse box is blown it is telling you that something along the line is shorting out and dangerous. I would remove the mains fuse and then check the wiring and plug for any damage. Check the fridge where the wiring enters for fraying or any damp. If you cant find an obvious fault get an electrician and on no account put a higher mains fuse in !!
- Q: i have a main service panel that was probably installed in the 70s or 80s. there is a bus bar on the right side that all of the white neutral wires terminate into. (there is also a bus bar on the left side, that is totally empty.) there are no bare copper ground wires visible anywhere in the box. the circuits all run from under the crawl space into exterior junction boxes on the siding, then up through metal conduit into the panel. i know some of the circuits are older, but some were added just in the last couple of years, and were done with permits. so how and where might the circuits be grounded?
- If everything is wired for AC wire (BX) then you don't really need a ground, for the armored cable (AC) works as a ground. If everything is wired for NM (Romex) then yes it should have a bare copper ground. Now if the panel is the main service panel, you could wire in the ground and neutral together on the same neutral bar, but if its a sub-panel then all neutrals and ground need to be separate. Some older Romex has no ground wire in it. It kinda looks like a snake skin insulator on the cable or cloth rapping the wire. Maybe they ran a ground wire into the Junction box and put all grounds in the Junction box. That would save space in the panel.
- Q: I have a water pump that is connected directly to the electrical panel in my home. I want to cut the wire, install two extension cord ends, and re-connect the wire. By doing this, I will be able to unplug the pump from the electrical panel and plug it into a generator when needed. My question is whether I need to pay attention to polarity when connecting the extension cord ends? If I get the wires reversed, will it cause a problem? I guess if I reverse the wires on both the male and female ends, it should work fine when connected to the electrical panel (because both the male and female are reversed, which should net to the same thing). I am concerned about when I plug the thing into a generator. If I accidentally switch the wires around the wrong way, what will happen?
- The cables are colour coded for a specific reason. If you don't understand that then for your own safety and that of others call in a qualified person. You could cause a short and also cut short your life. Get a professional in to sort it out.
- Q: I have an outdoor electrical outlet in the middle of my backyard. I think the prvious owners used to have a hot tub back there. Anyhow, the pvc conduit coming from the outlet goes into the ground about 10 inches and then I can see the electrical wire buried underground coming towards my house. I would like to just remove the outlet all together without digging it all up because it goes under my porch concrete. Can I just cap it off somehow and bury it? How? Thanks.
- should be a disconnect box within view of your outlet somewhere on the wall of the patio facing the outlet, TURN OFF THE MAIN POWER OF YOUR HOME OUT SIDE BY THE ELECTRIC METER and open that box, inside the box there will be wires going into the pipe that goes to the outlet in the backyard, disconnect those wires and cap the off with red wire nuts.If there is no disconnect box the power must be disconnected at the electrical sub panel by a certified electrician.
- Q: Home water heater is 5000W, said the wire is 4 level, you can press the big open? The
- Recommended with 30A to 40A, less than 30A will be easy for no reason to trip!
- Q: I have a 9 week old kitten that while playing, she continues to bite or play with my electrical cords from my tv, computer, etc. I have zip tied all of my wires and carefully tucked them away, but when I am not around, she finds them and pulls them out and begins to play with them. She has even taken the plastic baby proof electrical socket covers out and continues to attack the sockets. When I have sen her playing with these things, I have tried to make loud noises and shout no or clap my hands, but all she does is look at me like I am stupid. I don't want her to get hurt, and I am trying to avoid having to buy new cords and cables. What can I do?
- Make a answer of a million section tabasco sauce a million section water, place in spray bottle. Unplug and spray any cords she is getting at. enable dry Replug the mixture will act as a deterrent while the kitten tries to chunk next
- Q: If you have hot wires, then electrical energy is being used to heat the wires. Is this an efficient use of electricity? Explain.Question is related to the general area of circuits, resistance, current, voltage etc.Any help would be appreciated :)
- It depends on where the hot wire is. If it is in your wall, (part of the electrical wiring), it is overloaded and will likely start a fire. If it is in an appliance, such as a toaster, it is doing it's job. Someone else may shoot me down on this, but I believe that heating a grid of wires by running an electrical current through them is a fairly efficient way way to turn bread into toast. I say Fairly efficient because there is a lot of heat lost into the environment during and immediately after the toast is made and the electricity is shut off. Also, there is a period from when the power is turned on until the heating element reaches operating temperature. Also, I know of no other PRACTICAL way of making toast when the only energy comes through the electrical supply. So is it really efficient? No, but I know of no other practical way. Yes, you COULD heat up a clothes iron or similar appliance and use that to make toast, but that would be even more inefficient.
- Q: What is the maximum load of 2.5 square millimeters of wire?
- Flexible configuration, easy to install, easy to maintain, easy to manage, is the small and medium-sized optical fiber communication room to achieve fiber, jump fiber, fiber and fiber optic cable access to one of the essential equipment
- Q: I rent a home and the power started having really bad surges last night. I called my power company and he says their end is fine. The electrician inside says there is an issue with the wiring of some sort. Is the landlord responsible for thing that got fried like my cable box and my computer?
- get a surge suppressor, since a surge suppressor is not perfect, also get a UPS. That will condition the line. Next notify the landlord, he may not know that the house wiring is dangerous. If you are having problems and it is not the power company, it is a dangerous situation.
