- Q: changed the thermostat. it overheats but cools down a heat bar or two idling at stoplights. i filled up the coolant reservoir when i changed the thermostat, drove it about 2 miles(engine was already up to temp when i started) and it overheated. drove it two miles back going about 35-40 and it never went above normal but was still overheating. checked the reservoir and it was empty. stuffed a hose in it and plugged it up with a towel to force water in to see if it was leaking anywhere, no leaks. while running with the rpms up the top hose is easy to squeeze. makes me think water pump. but if i go over 45 it over heats makes me think clutch fan.

If in doubt don't drive it until its fixed Take a flashlight and take a good look over the whole engine compartment giving close attention to all the hoses connecting the engine to the radiator its best to find the exact location of the leak and get it fixed.Coolant leaks usually leave a discolored stain so this may help in finding it. Also take a look at the carpet on both front floorpans of the vehicle its possible that the cars heater may have failed and this will leak coolant all over either 1 or both floor pans which can then leak out on to the ground below via a drain hole.
- Q: I live in a condo building -- 3 floors, 7 units. In our storage units (right below my unit) is a water pump that was hooked up with the intent of helping the water flow to the 3rd floor. Everytime the pump goes off, it rattles, then makes a loud noise when it kicks off. The developers created a drywall box that houses the pump, which is surrounded by isolation, but it doesn't seem like it helps the noise. The pump also rattles the pipes that connect directly to the pump.My question is -- is this rattling normal for a standard water pump? If so, is there anything I can do to help cut down on the noise? - I've been around booster pumps that were extremely quiet -without any soundproofing at all.And the pipes don't rattle. You should find a plumber who knows what the hell he's doing and get that crap replaced.

- If you don't see drip marks under your car when you come out in the morning or when it's parked, it's probably not the water pump. Either way, that coolant is going someplace. It could also just be a loose hose or a blown headgasket. Check your oil and see if you have any coolant in the oil (you'll be able to tell). If you do, take it to a garage ASAP or you'll be really screwed! Either way, if it's the pump you'll know it sooner or later when it blows out!

- particular !! The water pump actual circulates the coolant/anti-freeze for the duration of the engine. A leak is a commonl occurance. If I had a dime for each waterpump I replaced that each and absolutely everyone started leaking coolant i would not could artwork back !! additionally, the timing belt is relatively of a good sized interest in case you're actually not a mechanic or in no way carried out it in the past. Its not in basic terms a do away with and replace interest.
