Q:Hartell solar water pump question ...?
OK, well your question is a bit confusing and I am not sure if it is because you don't understand how your system works. Your hartell pump pumps water. It does not produce heat. Your water heater heats water. It is a backup to your solar panel system. If on the other hand you have a heat pump as a back up source of heat this could be an entirely different matter and you are best at providing a model number which should be stamped on the part. We need to start again. Is your system for solar hot water or for general heating? Is it a system in a cold climate where freezing is an issue. Is it a pump down system or a system that circulates antifreeze in the solar loop. The reason all this is significant is that if you are paying a lot in electricity then something is not working. The first question has to be is it a design problem, a mechanical problem or an operational problem. You may need more hot water storage or more solar panels, you may need to replace parts, or you may simply need to turn the right valves (This would be the case where you have a grounding loop to keep the solar panels from overheating in the summer.)
Q:My water pump went, and car overheated. Can there be any other damage?
All kidding aside, the 3.8 Ford engine was discontinued for a mountain of reasons. When the temperature indicator went into the red zone, you should have shut the motor off and parked the car just like it tells you to do in the glove compartment manual. Lets have a little primer on tour temperature gauge and why the needle was bouncing around: The electrical temperature sensor in one of the cylinder heads is a contact sensor. This means unless it has to touch the coolant all the time it will not send the heat information to the gauge reader on the dash accurately. When the electrical sensor in the cylinder head HAS NO COOLANT TO TOUCH, the dash gauge reads ZERO. In other words the hottest part of the engine was not being cooled all the time. Never drive anything anywhere unless the radiator is filled to the top when the engine is stone cold and the plastic coolant recovery reservoir is at least 3/4 filled when the motor is stone cold.. If the cooling system is leaking as fast as you fill it, TOW the car do not DRIVE IT. Cross your fingers and hope that the valve seats didn't fall out of the cylinder heads.
Q:Automatic water pump!!?
WHAT does it is disrupt always really MEAN?? OK, that said... pumps such as this work to maintain a pressure with two set points even though the regulator only has one indicated.. The lower set point which as pressure drops, the pump turns on, and the upper set point where when the pressure rises to that point, the pump shuts off. When the pressure drops to the lower set point, it triggers the pump to run. When the pressure rises to the upper set point, the pump turns off. If the set point is 50 pounds, it may turn on at 47 and off at 53, or the window could be smaller and on at 49 and off at 51. The air bladder works as a shock absorber, just as the shocks work in your car to smooth the ride. When the pump turns ON there is a pressure pulse that without the air space, would promptly turn the pump off again. This is called short cycling and will cause your pump to on-off-on-off-on-off rapidly. The solution is to refill the air bladder. People with well pumps instead of city water have this problem frequently as the air bladder loses the bubble and does not work as a spring or shock absorber. I have city water NOW, but I used to use a well (which is still operational if I choose to use it) and I experienced pump short cycling the very first year I bought the house. The thing IS, I was ignorant. I missed the thing about a well and a septic tank that also uses a pump to an above ground drain field. YES. I was STUPID because I had NOT paid attention. NOW, years later, I have learned, the HARD way mind you, how these sanitary systems WORK in real life in RURAL America....
Q:hooking two water pumps together?
That's an interesting question and it raises quite a few complicated hydro-engineering questions. If you used two pumps with the same output pressure, sequenced to switch on together, I do not believe you would increase the final output pressure over using just one pump. I'd think you'd need to have the first pump run to a pressure tank with a check valve and then use a booster pump to raise the pressure from that tank to the house meaning you'd need another pressure tank and check valve in the house. Have you looked at the air bladder diaphragm tanks that allow you to set the pressure by regulating the air pressure behind the bladder? This might be a better option than 2 pumps. Look at a company called Well-X-Trol.
Q:IS THIS A BAD WATER PUMP?
It depends a lot on the engine in the car, and knowing the year would really help. $600 is outrageously expensive for the 2.2L engine and outrageously cheap for the 2.4L engine. You can replace your own on the 2.2, with a little help from somebody experienced. I definitely don't recommend trying water pump replacement on the 2.4L engine! No timing belt on either. If the leak is slow enough you can carry conventional antifreeze and purified water (no tap water!) and refill every morning and every afternoon. When you are adding more than a quart of the combined liquids (either premix or manually use half of each) you will have to come up with an alternate plan. As thebax says, stop leak won't work on a water pump.
Q:How long will a bad water pump last?
This may sound crazy, but I drove my car for nearly 3 months with a failing water pump. Fortunately, I live in a very small town and would only drive a few miles at a time, but it was still a major hassle. I had to carry a huge thing of water and constantly refill it, along with several times of sitting on the side of the road, waiting for my engine to cool down. You have to be VERY careful not to blow a head gasket by overheating your car. I don't know how bad your water pump is, but my mine was literally dripping water out as I was filling it up. I think if you wait a week and are very careful, you should be fine. I know all car guys/gals are going to disagree, because it's not the proper answer, but it's the truth for me. Good luck
Q:water pump running backward?
Check the belt diagram and make sure that the belt is on correctly; if it is on backwards fix it. If you have white smoke coming out of the exhaust that is water vapor which means that the engine has gotten too hot and you have a cracked head or a blown head gasket.

No that's a bunch of b.s. if the pulley was broken you be able to see it- and in order for it to get in the pump- it would have to be leaking somewhere- water pumps put out a lot of pressure... But as long as the jeep never overheated before the belt broke the water pump is fine- my opinion, find a new mechanic...

drain cooling system, remove the fan belt. Remove the lower radiator hose, Remove nut from both front motor mounts. Remove alternator. Disconnect power steering pump pressure hose. Disconnect heater outlet tube from waterpump. Remove AC compressor front bracket, leaving compressor in place. jack up left side of motor about 5 inches. Remove waterpump bolts and nuts. Remove the drive belt tensioner pulley. remove the power steering pump with the hose still attached to it. and position it off to the side. Now remove the waterpump and gasket! reinstall in reverse order. This is taken from the Mitchell Repair Software.
