Q:Steel being my favorite type, I just picked up Heart Gold today, my gf got Soul Silver...I was wondering which steel types are available and somewhat easily obtainable in HG (and/or what is the earliest steel type I can get?)
There aren't many Steel types in the Johto and Kanto regions. You'll have to rely on trading from Sinnoh and Hoenn to get most of the Steel types. In Soul Silver you can get a Skarmory on Rt 43, I believe. Ask your gf to catch you one when she gets there.
Q:I'm buying a new set of steel plugs.I've heard things about streched ears and cold weather not being to good. do you think it would be bad to be wearing steal plugs?
I have never had a problem with mine in any weather. They may feel a little tighter if you are cold, but if it is uncomfortable, just take 'em out!
Q:I would like to buy a new cold steel recon 1 folding knife. My concern is the knife is made in Taiwan, will the quality of blade/overall make is lower quality compare with those made in US/JAPAN? The plan is use as an EDC, any good suggestion with similar style? Most important to me is reliability, 2)sharpness, 3) maintance than 4)cost. Anyone can point me into right direction? Please share, Thanks in advance.
I think that 440 stainless steel is pretty good. I like Gerber,Kershaw knives in 440 stainless steel. D2 steel is also as good or better than 440. I am not sure of Taiwan/China steel.
Q:For example, (and this is weird) if I were wearing a steel collar and I needed some way to remove it, with limited supplies.Force is difficult because it would be around my neck.Chemical cominations are great- but they have to use VERY common products. And I'm not sure what to use.Other ideas?
Your best bet would be a grinding wheel attached to a small electric motor. Even if you slipped, your skin is too soft to be cut by the dull wheel. Steel, however, is easily cut. But perhaps you don't have access to electricity or pressurized air to run such a tool. In that case, a simple file would work well, though you'd be somewhat more likely to injure yourself. If you had no tools, but access to whatever chemicals you wanted, you could try a weak acid. This would take a long time, and require constant scrubbing to bring fresh acid into the pits in the metal, but it would eventually eat through the collar.
Q:I'm getting my nose pierced, meaning that i have to keep the piercing in for a prolonged time. i've always had reactions when wearing sterling silver or fake earrings (i dont know what types of metal they were) after wearing it overnight. Will I get a reaction on my nose piercing if the stud is surgical steel?
The chances of a reaction from the stud is minimal. Surgical steel is an alloy specifically designed to make sterile safe surgical equipment. Often made with titanium or nickel, surgical steel is highly reactive and forms an oxidized layer when made. This layer creates a stable surface. The titanium and nickel are both very hard and resistant to scratches which make for easy sterilization. This will help keep your piercing clean. Be sure to follow the directions you receive when you get your piercing and keep it clean.
Q:Many gerber knives are made out of what gerber calls high Carbon steels and I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what is this mysterious steel.
Carbon, when added to steel increases the hardness of the metal. The higher the carbon content the harder(pure carbon = diamond) the blade will be and the longer it will hold its sharpened edge. Too much carbon however can make it too brittle to use as a blade. iron, carbon and chromium(for the stainless in stainless steel) mixed in the right portion makes a high carbon stainless steel knife. All of which is kinda pointless if the blade is not forged correctly.
Q:What is the most common bullet resistant steel that is used, can certain bullets just not be stopped, also what type of glass is bullet resistant or is that special made.
The trauma plates in most vests are made from titanium steel. But the real issue is how thick a plate of a particular material must be to soak up the kinetic energy of a particular bullet. Certain bullets are a lot easier to stop than others. But, again, it's all about the bullet mass and velocity. Bulletproof glass is usually several layers of glass bonded together with a clear plastic film and it's generally special made. Doug
Q:Will any modified choke or improved Cylinder choke be safe to use with steel shot? If these are safe, which is better for duck or goose hunting?
Best Choke For Steel Shot
Q:What type of metal is T10 tool steel?
Carbon Tool Steel usually in the form of forged bar stock. Steel Grades for tool steel can be any of the following (depending on the application) T10/1.1645 SK3/SK4/W1A-91/2/ TC105/y10/1880/BW1B T10A/1.1545/y10A/1880 Standards are published by: DIN, JIS, ASTM, AISI, BS, SS, ISO, TOCT, GB Doug
Q:What is the width range of steel coils?
The width range of steel coils can vary depending on the specific requirements and industry standards, but generally, it can range from a few millimeters to several meters.
