Q:I have a power adapter that changes the tip of a power cable from the US standard to the Spain standard. My laptop has 3 prongs and the adapter accepts 2. It fits into it, but the 3rd prong just rests outside. I know the voltage over there is twice as strong, so will this work correctly?
The third is a ground, you should try and find an adapter that will accept a 3 prong plug. It' s not necessary, but its good to have. Your laptop should accept the voltage, look on the power adapter thing inline with the cord and look to see what its voltage rating is. It should have a bunch of written stuff , one of the lines will say input AC 100-240v 1.5A or something similar. If it does not read 100-240 but instead reads 110v, then DO NOT plug it in, the second you do it will break. my friends plugged in an xbox to a 220 volt system, they didn't even turn it on, something exploded inside almost immediately.
Q:There have been severe storms in my country Kenya and power lines have fallen and caused a lot of injuries, some fatal to pedestrians, motorists and others.I am sure if power lines were covered with rubber sheathing or some other apopropriatde material, there would be less likelihood of electrocution, serious injury, fire or property damage. I am a lay person in these matters so I am talking from what I have seen. Thanks in advance.
One small addition to what has been said above, and that seem to have been forgotten: When a power cable breaks and falls to the ground, it acts exactly like a whip! It does not matter if it were covered with feathers, the simple whipping force would STILL cut a car in two... (I have seen a cable cutting a HOUSE in two!)
Q:remove just this cable or use different hd and it works fine, is the hd broken or is it a power consumption by the hd issue? tryed a different psu and its the same problem, unfortunately not got another pc handy to check the hd on. Thanks In advance?
the hard drive has a short or you might have the thing plugged in backwards (either cable)
Q:Okay after installing Deus Ex on a brand new PS3 slim I pressed the start button and when the screen went black the console hanged, I couldn't even press the PS button, at the suggestion of a friend I yanked the power cable. Now it works fine but I'm wary of putting Deus Ex back in, I doubt that its regioning since there's no such thing. Any ideas and troubleshooting solutions?BTW what are the consequences to yanking the power cable.
If pulling the power cord was the *only* way to turn it off, that's ok, you just don't want to do it frequently. As for the game itself, the only thing I can think of is to make sure other games work. If so, then something about the game itself is causing the fault, but not sure what. If anything, I would say contact Sony for assistance in that regard.
Q:I have my Clearwire modem but have lost the power cable. Does anyone know what I would look for in a replacement power cable.
check the Clearwire URL .. Support tab
Q:or do I need to buy one?
No, the PS3 is a 3 prong outlet cable, and the PS2 is 2 prong. Also the end that plugs into the console is different for both. You can use a PC power cord for the PS3 if needed, the ends are the same.
Q:I don't know what kin d of power cord i would need in order to make it work. I thought all monitors needed the same power cable, but im not sure.
Most equipment uses the IEC plug on the monitor end and the particular power plug your country uses for the other end. Your monitor handles all the international voltages, so you can be sure it will work anywhere.
Q:What I really just want to know is the equation and basic concept on how to determine the optimal length of power cable needed to connect two poles while knowing only the linear density of the cable. It does not matter how much sag is produced because of limitations due to the strength of the power cable.
The web page provides very thorough information and rigorous mathematical treatment relevant to the answer you seek. But it is just too much all at once to digest. So take it piecemeal, one bit at a time! First, you must realize that the sag of the cable is the single most important design parameter and strict attention to cable weight determines the optimal length. The equation of the catenary is the precise model but a parabolic approximation may work. (parabolic approx.) ymax = (3wl?) / ?√(64EA) P = wl?/(8ymax) Where ymax is the maximum sag l is the unstretched length w is the weight/unit length E Youngs modulus A Wire area P axial tension the curve is a parabola, which is a good approximation if the depth of sag is no greater than 1/8th of the span. Use the second equation to derive the induced tension P. H:=WL?/8S S:=WL?/8H L: distance between support S: Sag at mid-span H: tension (horizontal component of tension) The tension depends purely on the loaded geometry and the weight per unit length.
Q:He has made a couple of really small slits in the black plastic on the wire, all in the same place, but on both sides. I can see silver through it, but no other colours. I have unplugged it from the laptop and the mains, as I assume I shouldn't use it. However, it is the bit attached to the big square thing (sorry, I don't know what it is called), does that have a charge, so should I do something special with the wire? Also, is there any way to repair it, like electrical tape, or should I just go buy another cable this afternoon?I have a Sony Vaio in case that is important.(and before anyone says, don't let your dog chew the wire, he usually leaves the wire alone, I left him for a couple of seconds and when I came back he was chewing something next to the wire, so I guess he missed! I've learnt my lesson and I won't be leaving him in the vicinity of the laptop on his own ever again!)
no its fine but i would suggest that you take caution in plugging it back in maybe wear rubber gloves or something but you shoould be fine, some people would go out and by a new cord but it is completely unneccesary
Q:I need a replacement power cable for an ASUS VH222H monitor ASAP.Would this work?
the end that goes into your computer... compare that to what you see in the package.
