- Q:The green light on the back of the power supply comes on when the power cable is plugged. also, every time i plug in the power cable, the fan on the power supply wants to spin, but it stops. The squeezing noise remains and i push the power button - nothing comes on. Before, it used to come on for a few seconds and then it will turn off by itself. I though it was a virus, so i restarted in safe mode to scan it. The PC stayed on for like 30 minutes and then it turn off by itself. But every since it does not wants to come on. Is the power supply gone? If so, how can still the green button comes on and the squeezing noise remains?please help me out! I need my PC! thanx in advanced!
- Yea its gone. the reason it ran in safe mode is because safe mode doesn't heat up your computer like if running normally. Most likely you're power supply isn't even supplying enough power to your fans to keep the CPU and cards cool, so its forcing itself to shut down. I would plug it in and open the side of your case and see if your fans are even running when you turn it on. If it not turning on at all now, just buy a new one. Power supplies are something you definately don't want to go cheap on. Buy a thermaltake or an antec and if you play games, I would get one that's at least 500W

- Radio Shack or any computer store can sell you a generic replacement power cable for the drive. You can also get a replacement USB cable for it while you're at it in case that cable is wearing out. - Stuart

- Ok..listen carefully. If you try to overload your computer with too many peripherals that it is not designed for, you are going to have problems..power supply, being a major one. Yes, you can get another mother board and bigger power supply if you are willing to pay for them. But, if money is an issue, do you really need 2 DVD roms? Do you really need 2 hard drives? If you do, and you are willing to pay for them, so be it. One possible solution is for your sound card. Most of them do not plug into the ribbon cable that also goes to the DVD/harddrive. You could consider another more modern sound card that would not have a ribbon cable, but only a small cable that plugs into the Dvd drive. Bottom line: You have a primary slot and a secondary slot on your motherboard. Your cables have 2 places for a master and a slave. That means 4 peripherals total and you have 5, if you count the sound card, and you need to get rid of at least one peripheral.

- If you're talking external, then yes. Internal gets power from the PSU.

- Look for where the factory wire harness goes through. there's usually enough room to cut or drill a whole and pass your power wire through. If not, you'll have to make your own hole in a safe place.
