- i have a jeep thats the same year as yours and that happend to me. the light went away but when i took it in to the dealer cuz i still had a factory warranty they replaced it because it was still faulty. its not going to change the way your engine runs too much but over time if you dont get it fixed it will start running like crap. so id get it fixed so you dont have to worry about anything.

That's gonna cost you $$$ The modern ignition system was design to be smart and you should have the code scanned and READ the code to find the reason behind the Check Engine Light. Go to autozone (or any of the many Auto parts store with this service) and have the code scanned. Then come back with more question WITH THE CODE. Good luck.
- Q: 96 Geo Tracker failed test cause of EGR flow.Had EGR Bypass and EGR control valve replaced.After driving car for a week engine light came on.Tested again and failed again cause of EGR flow.Had o2 sensor replaced. Drove for a few days,engine light came on again. Tested again and failed, again for EGR flow and now system too lean.Dealership can‘t find the problem,but recommended I have fuel injector service,engine decarbonization,and new hoses they didn‘t specify which ones.I‘ve spent over a grand trying to fix and I don‘t want to give the dealer any more money because they haven‘t been able to fix it.Trying to qualify for a waiver from the Illinois emissions but they won‘t give it to me unless the engine light is off,it doesn‘t matter if the car fails. - The evap system capures fuel that is evaporating from the gas tank, and allow it to re-enter the tank to be burnt. Its only there because laws require it to be so that fuel does not evaporate into the atmosphere. While you should make efforts to fix the problem, it will in no way effect the life or performance of your engine, you may lose fuel from your gas tank while it is sitting, and you wont pass an emissions test come the next time you need to take one.
- Q: Just recently our airbag light started flashing. There has not been any damage to the vehicle. Is there a way to diagnose where the problem originates if you have a wiring diagram? The dealer wants $130 just to find where the problem is and then repair is extra on top of that.
- I doubt that the OBD II scanners at Auto Zone are capable of reading codes for the SRS AirBag system. You need a Nissan dealers Consult II scanner to diagnose that system. Wiring diagrams are no help, SRS problems are usually air bags with intermittent open circuits or the steering wheel clock spring. Don't use a VOM on the SRS system or you will set off the air bags and end up with $2,000 or more in replacement costs.

- If the light is still on you still have a problem. Have your charging system checked at almost any auto parts store. Unless the new alternator is faulty its probably the battery.

- Q: My truck was totaled, but no one was hurt. It has been 3 weeks since the accident and I have no vehicle. I have a copy of the police report that states that the other vehicle disregarded the red light and struck me. My insurance company has all ready came to their decision and found the other party fully at fault. So I had filed with the other parties insurance. Their response to my claim is that they feel that there are conflicting stories and that the police officer on the scene didn‘t take down a name of a witness.So they feel that I am entitled to only half of what they first appraised all my damages/costs to be. I feel that it is their legal obligation to pay in full the reasonable costs including loss of vehicle, impound costs, and any other fees. I keep getting the run around with that insurance company and need advice.
