Q:96 Geo Tracker failed test cause of EGR flow.Had EGR Bypass and EGR control valve replaced.After driving car for a week engine light came on.Tested again and failed again cause of EGR flow.Had o2 sensor replaced. Drove for a few days,engine light came on again. Tested again and failed, again for EGR flow and now system too lean.Dealership can‘t find the problem,but recommended I have fuel injector service,engine decarbonization,and new hoses they didn‘t specify which ones.I‘ve spent over a grand trying to fix and I don‘t want to give the dealer any more money because they haven‘t been able to fix it.Trying to qualify for a waiver from the Illinois emissions but they won‘t give it to me unless the engine light is off,it doesn‘t matter if the car fails. What should I do?Can I perform the engine decarbonization and injector service myself, and if so how?and will that even make a difference?Is there a way to turn off the engine light without disconnectin battery to get qualify 4 waiver?

If I were u,i will remove the bulb which is giving you the run around. Go for the test without the bulb,so light not there to fail you. once passed,u can fix it back. Now this electronic systems can show light for various reasons.From Loose tank caps to Co2 sensors. Even auto transmission sensors show check engine lights. The diagonise will show exact. Only possibilty check auto transmission sensor.This could be the culprit. try the bulb trick and get your vehicle moving.

Q:hii have a dodge charger 2008. engine 3.5 v6the problem is i have the check engine light keeps coming and going,when its on it goes off after restarting the car for 5 or 6 times.i have changed the engine oil and the air filter and still have the same problem.any suggestions ?

If you take the car to any Dodge dealer, they'll read your computer and tell you *exactly what is causing the check engine light. More than likely one of the two *oxygen sensors need changing or the *mass air flow sensor needs to be cleaned.

Q:water some how got into my oil system replaced the oil pump and done an engine flush oil change and filter gave it a tune up dropped gas tank and cleanded that but my light still coming on whats else could be wronge

if your check engine light is on then there must be engine trouble code stores. Get it scanned and do proper diagnostic. Just guessing is going to cost you $$$. You can go to many auto parts store (like Autozone) and have it scanned for free. And they will tell you what might be the problem As for the water in you oil, that sounds like blown gasket. That's gonna cost you (no cheap fixes). I did my budd's gasket about 2 weeks ago for the same problem. Good Luck.

Q:I have a 2002 Honda Civic sedan with 94K miles on it. Yesterday the engine malfunction light came on. I consulted the owner‘s manual and it said to first check the gas fill cap. I did that and re-tightened it, but the light did not go out. Then it added that if that didn‘t fix the problem it was likely something wrong with the emission system. I wanted to know if the engine malfunction light on would have created a code that can be read and if that is the same thing as check engine light on other cars. I called the auto dealer today and they said they charge $100 just to check the code and depending what it is, if they could even fix it or would have the parts, if needed. Someone at work suggested I take it to Advance Auto since they will check the codes for free. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Personally would replace with copper as plastic does not look as good and the fittings are too bulky, als the plastic fittings rely on the rubber o ring inside them which after 10 or so years tend to dry out and perish causing small leaks which if pipe work is in awkward places or hidden can cause big problems later.

Ok, forget the fuel filter. The guys at AZ are idiots, thats why they are working there. Anyways what sets that code off usually is either a vacuum leak of some type, or either a failed o2 sensor. If you have a misfire on that Catera generally you will know it. You're gas mileage is probaly kinda crappy so start for looking for a vacuum leak. No leaks chances are it's probaly a failed o2 sensor. Good Luck.

Q:I have a 2006 ford mustang coupe. Yesterday the emission system light turned and has not turned off. Where the mileage usually is it instead says 21 average mph. What does this mean?

The check engine light comes on for emissions related problems. First thing I would do is make sure the gas cap is on tight. Turn it until it makes a few clicks. Believe it or not it is one of the things monitored by the engine management computer. I won't get into the technicalities but a loose cap can cause the light to come on. Give it a day or two and the light should go out. If the light stays on, then you can download the code(s) by stopping into any one of the big chain auto parts stores; they'll do it for free. All this will do it give you a cryptic code and a very brief system description .which may mean absolutely nothing to you. In which case you need to bring it in to a good local repair shop or the dealership and have a diagnostic run .they will be able to interpret the codes and what needs to be done to service your car. The 21 average mph. is a function of the driver information center. I guess you've not read the owners manual. Most cars made within the last 8 - 10 years or so have a multi-function display where the odometer resides. All sorts of info can be selected to display .average mpg's; instantaneous mpg's, miles to go 'til the tank is empty, how much fuel you've used and .the average speed since you last reset the feature. I suggest you read the owners manual .you might be surprised what you can learn about your car.

Q:I was looking into buying this 91 sonoma with the TBI 4.3 engine. I had it running for about 5 minutes while I was inspecting everything, and then the service light came on. So I checked for codes and got none. Turned the car back on, light came back on a couple minutes later. Gauges read fine, no leaks, idle, or acceleration problems. I have the same problem with my 92 except it does have a problem every now and then. What could this be on this truck?
