Q:Hi all i had a 1999 EJ8 with MF816 vtec sohc engine my problem this morning is that my car fail to start the only clue that i notice is that my abs check light wont turn off but blinking instead anyone experience this?

The ABS blinking light usually means that there is a problem with your anti-lock break system. Did it quit blinking and go away after you started it and drove it around for a bit? If so, then the car not starting probably reset the system and there is nothing wrong with your ABS System. If it is still blinking, I would take it to a mechanic that could hook up the coder machine to pin point what specifically happened in the brakes for the light to come on. The ABS light should have nothing to do with the car not starting. Process of elimination would be to check the battery first. Make sure that the cables are secured tightly to the terminals and that there is no corrosion. If the corrosion is bad, it will cause you car not to start. You can clean it up with baking soda and water, or your local parts store (which I prefer) has a spray cleaner to get the corrosion off. Take a steel brush and clean any of the corrosion that is left. Have the auto parts store test your battery and alternator to make sure those parts are not going out on you. Then the next step would be to check the starter. If your check/service engine light is on, they can pull the codes for you and tell you specifically what is happening with your engine, (I know Advanced Auto and Auto Zone have code readers and it's a free service). Q:Over the weekend our 1997 Honda Civic sedan developed an interesting problem. After starting the car and pushing on the brake I cannot shift the auto transmission out of Park. So I first have to manually unlock it, shift to Neutral and then start the car. Also the horn is now not working. I checked the horn fuse which was blown and replaced it but upon trying to test the horn the fuse blew again. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

The problem with the car not shifting out of Park is caused by your blown fuse for the Horn. Here's the logic the car will not shift out of Park unless you have your foot on the brake pedal. the only way the shift interlock system knows you have your foot on the brake pedal is that when you put your foot on the brake pedal the brake lights in the back of the car come on. so if the brake lights are ON then the shift interlock system lets you take the car out of Park. the taillights share the same fuse as the horn. so when the fuse for the horn blows the brake lights don't work. you have to systematically eliminate the components in the circuit to see what's causing the problem. I would do it this way 1) replace the fuse (better have about 5 fuses to do this). then step on the brake and shift the car out of Park. if it works then you can eliminate everything in the brake lights portion of the system because the fuse did not blow. 2) try the horn. again, I know you said it blew when you tested the horn so your problem should be with the horn side but do it just to confirm. if the fuse blows again then you know its the horn circuit that is the problem 3) replace the fuse, then unplug the horn connector. then try the horn again. if the fuse doesn't blow you have a shorted horn. my guess is this is your problem. 3) if the fuse blows then the problem is with the horn relay. you can substitute any like relay in the underhood fuse and relay box for the horn relay and test it. if the horn works and the fuse doesn't blow your problem is a shorted relay. 4) if you find the horn is shorted then you can just remove the connector and drive without the horn until you can get it fixed or, if you can't get to the horn connector (its usually not very easy) then pull the horn relay and at least you'll have brake lights and the shift interlock until you can get the horn replaced I think you'll find its the horn itself. After running the test and got the code, I unplugged the battery check engine light came off and the light came on three days later again.I‘ve tried the gas cap. A capacitor is a bandaid for an inadequate charging system. First taek your car to autone, pep boys, advance auto. Something of the sort and have them test your alternator and battery. They will perform this service for free, hoping that if something is wrong, you will buy the product from them. If one of those is bad, replace it and see if the dimming continues. If it does, try a 2nd battery. in the trunk. Deep cycle sealed batteries are best and often cost less than a capacitor

You need to bleed your brakes, they have too much air or water in the fluid. That or your pads need changing. Plenty of websites will tell you how it's done.

Q:2005 Cavalier I was driving down the expressway last night and all of a sudden the service engine, abs, and track off lights all came on and wouldn‘t go off. I pulled over and checked the brake fluid because that‘s the only thing I could think of and it was full. I just replaced the brake shoes about a month ago so I doubt thats my problem.
