Q: I got a new stereo head for my 1999 Ford Contour Sport on my birthday. Since it‘s been installed, I can only get any kind of electrical power when I turn my lights on and the dimmer knob is up all the way. My lights inside don‘t turn on unless my headlights are on and neither does my sound system. I also cannot use my remote lock on my keys unless my headlights are on. I figure it‘s a wiring problem that may have something to do with the stereo head. Any ideas or suggestions as to how to fix it?: if you had it installed a t aplace of business then take it back and have them correct their mistake. if you did the work you need to go back over what you've done and make the needed repairs and amke sure you don't use any extra wires. the engineers have designed it so that you just can't swap a stereo out any more. it's been a while, but i have heard of a manufacturer running the power to the computer through the stereo unit, how brilliant is that?

Q: i have a 1999 ford explorer 4L 4x4 the engine light came on one day and didn't go off when I lay on the gas the check engine light flashes I changed all the plugs and wires and the light still stayed on so I went to auto zone and they scanned it and said cylinder 1 and 6 were misfiring so I bought a new coil and nothing changed the light still stays on and flashes and it seemed like it's getting worse. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?: it makes the computer think it is a cold start and add more fuel and lets the engine run cooler

Q: I have air bag light on for 4 days, my horn and rear wiper are working, in AutoZone cannot find the code,, I call Chrysler , my van do not have recall, what possible can be? clock spring, can my air bag go on after some time?? thank you: Its a very common problem in dodge products. No the air bag will not go off because of the light the light is telling you something is wrong with the system,It could be as simple as a defective seat belt or if you live in the salt belt as i do it can be a corroded crash sensor.these codes can be read but not by auto zone scantools you need to go to a shop that deals with airbags such as the dealer or a body shop. Dont worry the airbag wont deploy by itself,but you need it checked in case of a accident.

Q: I own a 1988 Mazda B2200 pickup. If it sits for two days or more the battery becomes dead with no juice to start it. I have installed a new battery and checked the alternator and it charges at 13.90 volts. I take the battery connections off and on and there is no spark showing a short. How do I find the short in the electrical system. would appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks in advance Doug: Some good tips above, but first before anything else, wait for a moonless night. Go outside and let your eyes adjust to the darkness (about 5 minutes or so) then look all over the car for a light shining. It could be a panel light, glovebox, under dash light or such as that. I have found stoplight switches shorted that would activate the brake lights normally, but would also dimly glow all the time. You could see it on a dark night!

Q: my check engine light is on and when auto-zone scanned it, it came up as transmission, well I need to get the hoses in my transmission changed but I was just wondering if that would cause the light to go on. Also my battery light is on and I‘m getting the alternator belt changed this weekend, would that cause my battery light to come on? THanks so much. I have a 97‘ plymouth breeze with a 2.0 engine.: A transmission leak would cause transmission failure! It is entirely comprehensible that transmission failure, may cause transmission codes to appear. If your alternator belt has failed, causing your battery light to come on, you probably won't make it more than one or two very short trips. Ps. Good luck!

Q: Okay, So for the past few days this has been happening. Sometimes when I let off the gas of my 2006 ford mustang coupe, it will jump a little bit. It‘s never done this before. Also, today for the first time a light came on but i have NO idea what it was. I looked in my manual, and everything and it wasn‘t in there at all. I googled it but wasn‘t finding anything. Can someone please help me with this? What do you think it is? or can you send me a link to a website with ALL the warning lights on it? PLEASE!!: It is in fact in the owner's manual on p.10-11. Looking in the manual, the light in that area would be the check fuel cap light, which could mean you have a loose or missing gas cap. It could also be a large evaporative emissions leak or some other problem with the EVAP system. If it was the oil light (red light that looks like an oil can), then you need to check your oil ASAP. If the gas cap wasn't loose and you still have problems, you should have the codes read for free at an auto parts store.

If they ARE directional then right front to right rear and left front to left rear.

Q: just replaced yesterday but the battery light stays on evereything works fine: The light would be indicating that it is not charging, it is usually one of two things, loose alternator belt, or bad alternator. First find your alternator, and check how tight the belt is. Try to turn the pulley with your hand, try to make it slip against the belt. If you can make the pulley slip, it is too loose, and you need to tighten it. The at home test to see if your alternator is charging, is to remove the ground terminal of your battery while it is running. If the idle is good, and the engine dies, that means the alternator isn't charging. If the engine continues to run with the battery cable off, it proves that the alternator is charging. Try these things at home, then drive it to an auto parts store that does free charging system tests, but make sure the alternator belt is tight first.
