If you had someone change the brake rotors for you, then obviously they swapped you with some worn/used brake rotors. Go to your local auto parts store and buy new brake rotors yourself at $20 a piece ($40 for 2). If you can change this yourself, that would be ideal. Just jack up your car onto jackstands, remove the wheel, remove the caliper, the caliper mount, and the old brake rotor. Otherwise, bring it to a trusted shop and watch them put in your brake rotors. Mark it with a fat red marker on the surface if you have to. Also, have them use new screws to tighten the new brake rotors onto the hub. If this resolves your problem, look into getting a refund for the brake rotors you purchased.and consider never going there again for repairs - learn how to fix it yourself. Good luck!

There is a code being tripped by something under the hood that is doing that and then correcting itself for a bit. If the car's running okay otherwise, I've found the most common thing that does this is an 02 sensor. Since they rely on a 'count' system that has to agree with the 'count' produced by the next 02 sensor inline, then the code trips and then when you're driving they tend to 'agree' with each other later. I have a couple of vehicles that do this and even after changing the sensors I still get an intermittent light that comes on. If you want to verify that there is a code tripped, you can have your checked for free at those discount auto parts places. They'll let you know what the code says if it is still in the computer on your car.

Q:My dad and I are replacing the engine in a golf cart with a bigger one from a snowmobile. The mechanics of the whole operation are taken care of, but we are not sure about the electrical system. the old engine used a starter generator to start and generate power for the lights and such, but the snowmobile engine has a standard starter motor and an alternator built in. We have no idea what kind of system it used for charging the battery. We have the regulator from the old engine and are wondering if we can use this. It is an old mechanical style one with three connections. D+, D-, and DF. Can we use a full wave bridge rectifier to convert the AC from the alternator into DC and then smooth it out with a capacitor and run that power into the old regulator? I‘m not sure how to connect the regulator as we accidentally removed it before taking note of how it was connected. Basically I want it to be able to run the carts lights and recharge the battery after starting.

These labels mean Dynamo +, Dynamo - and Dynamo field. The plus and minus are the auxiliary output just for the regulator if there is a B+ on the alternator. The field is fed from the regulator, and this is the smaller wire or connection usually. The link below shows the connections. The ignition/charge warning light is necessary to get the alternator started. The wire from B+ to the battery handles the full output current of the alternator. The regulator connections are all 10A automotive wire. The minus side of the battery is grounded at the engine body and this carries the full starter motor current. It is possible there is another ground connection for the lights etc. This goes to the battery negative. There must be a connection between the battery and the alternator frame that can carry the full alternator output. This may be the engine body through the starter motor ground. Some alternators have the regulator built in to the brush holders. The old mechanical regulator will only work if both are thesame voltage, like 12V. If in doubt you can always get an auto electrician to do it. Do the wiring as you think and get them to fix it, so the labour is less.

Q:They don‘t completely go out, but dim for a second then get bright again. Happens about once every 90seconds. Checked alternator - tested good one store bad at another. Can‘t see any obvious bad connects , contacts or grounds. ‘98 Ford Taurus. Suggestions?

The alternator can be easily checked with a simple volt meter - the battery should read 13.8-14.2 volts with engine running at 1200-1500 RPM's. It sounds like you may have a short in the lighting circuit.

I've used cadd programs from the beginning of my programming career about 15 years ago. Autocad is the most popular but it is not the only one and over the years there are plenty of free and online programs. Basically, the software records coordinate information relative to each other in a coordinate system such as 2D, 3D, geographic, albers, mercator, etc. depending on the type of drawing you are doing (architecture, mapping, etc.) Files are written, usually in proprietary formats, which are usually convertable between vendor formats should the need arise (often in a painful way, from practical experience). The coordinates may be points in a line, key points in describing an arc or a point on its own. The drawn lines you see on screen are based on user preferences such as colour, thickness, solid, dashed, etc. or something called a 'cell' for points. I would feel safe to say that probably any modern computer (laptop or desktop) is capable of running any cadd software package. The larger the cadd file, the more need there will be for memory and video card power but at that point, you'd more than likely know a lot more about the software not to have to ask. The output (printing) of cadd drawings can be done on any modern printer but often larger plotter-style devices are used to print out the drawing on large-format paper. Modern cadd software also has the ability to render drawings with surfaces and lighting to give the appearance of reality to the drawing which is the same kind of thing computer games do now to render ground, buildings, creatures, etc. In many ways, they're the same except cadd software is not interested in movement very much. Q:My A/C does not work when set to auto or manual. When I press the contactor switch in the A/C, everything turns on. I also cleaned the condensate pump/pan. What could could be stopping the contactor switch from turning on when I set the thermostat. Thanks

It sounds like your gas tank may be near empty and the fuel pump is howling inside. The auto light sounds like something that may be part of the air conditioning. Try turning the air system off for 3 minutes and back on full auto. Put more gas in the tank. It the air system is cooling, what more could ask for. Don't worry about the light. It could mean that a fuse is blown and the forced air fan of the cooling system is not getting power. Find the blown fuse and replace it. Start the motor run the air system and see if it starts putting out cool again.
