Q:we build new home last year and now want to lay ceramic floor tiles. but the problem is our floor have cracks (one vertical crack line abiut 8 feet long). how we remove/repair these cracks so that after laying ceramic tiles no danger of these cracks coming again
Floor cracks suggest a problem with the underlying floor/foundation structure. If it's a new home you should get your builders back to sort out the problem before you tile, otherwise I'm pretty sure the problem will return.
Q:We are planning to build a double storey house with my wife of 6 years and we have been wondering as to how the floor of the upper level is made and supported. will greatly appreciate any help in understanding how it is made. Is it not expensive?
The outside walls are on top of the lower outside walls. Joists are usually attached to exterior walls by joist hangers, they are metal brackets that hold the joist & you nail them into the wall then into the joist you set in them. The floor is supported by interior walls you put the joists on top of, on the lower floor or supporting beams that can span a distance you need to span & made just like the floor on the lower level. You have to get local codes to see how far you can span the joists (boards you install sideways to support the floor because they are strong & inflexible that way). An upper floor is pretty cost effective square feet because you don't need a foundation. Usually a basement cost 1/2 the cost of the main main floor & an upper floor cost 75% of what a main floor does. That depends on how much you put on that floor as in bathrooms & other facilities & fixtures. Another kitchen up there would be a heavy expense, but most of the time you don't do that.
Q:Heyyy! I need help, I have been looking for cheap boards to build a deck and outside shed. Then I would need to find cheap place to buy a hardwood flooring or something similar, do ya know any web pages that deliver or any places around Memphis-Batesville- area??Thanks:)
Always keep in mind when you buy cheap, you get cheap let the buyer beware.
Q:My condo is on the 3rd floor & I'm looking to replace the 3/4 white oak floor with 5/8 strand woven bamboo. After removing some of the oak I have found that the sub-floor is a concrete slab (I'm unsure of the thickness) covered by 1/8 of insulayment underlayment. On top of that are two(2) layers of 3/8 plywood screwed to eachother with 3/4 screws. The plywood is not attached to the 1/8 insulayment mat or the concrete slab in any way. So my first question is, is this normal floor construction? My seconod question has to do with the fact that there appears to be green mold between the plywood planks & behind the baseboard. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance. I appreciate any help you can offer.
As the others have said it is normal construction. We 'float' the floor like that all the time. It's better if you live in a place where the weather changes dramatically. It allows the floor to expand and contract. As for the green stuff...it's probably mold, it's better to treat it, then to take a chance. I don't think it would be efflorescence (stuff that naturally comes out of the concrete), it's usually white. Remove a piece of drywall and see if it's traveled up the studs. Either way- clean it up before laying any flooring.
Q:My computer & router is on the second floor, but my xbox 360 is in my basement.
it should mine is in my room upstairs but in the basement is my router.
Q:I have cleaned, degreased, and filled cracks in the garage floor (let cure 10 days). It has been powerwashed and swept (you could eat off of it now). I mixed the etching solution according to the directions and applied to pre moistened garage floor. The directions state that if the solution does not fizz the floor is sealed and needs further prep and that if it does fizz it will do so for 4-5 minutes. I applied the etching solution and it did fizz but for a very short time (Less than 1 min). Also, the floor does not feel very rough...in fact, I can't tell any difference from now to when there was nothing done besides cleaning. Any suggestions from someone that has used this product or has knowledge of etching would be much appreciated.
sounds like its ready i would use a epoxy floor Finnish its durable and will last for yrs
Q:We have pergo wood laminate flooring and lots of shallow surface scratches on it. What can I use to make the floor look better?
nothing, you cannot repair laminate flooring! the only thing that i can suggest is that you get a french polisher in, then protect the floor with some sort of floor polish afterwards. good luck!
Q:Anthracene `` what the room is now decorated with wood?
The quality of the elephant or the nature can be!
Q:How often do you clean your flooring and what do you clean it with?
Laminate floors are very low maintenance. Ironically, if you use a lot of cleaning products on them, they will actually look worse...they will get smudges and streaks. And never use steam on laminate...steam can absolutely ruin laminate floors. It can cause warping and even cause the veneer to peel right off. Having said this, exactly how do you maintain a laminate floor? Mostly just by vacuuming it as needed. When you need more than a vacuuming, use a microfiber mop and plain old water. No cleanser, no vinegar, no nothing...just water. Let the mop do the work. Microfiber is fantastic at removing dirt and streaks and doesn't need a cleanser to help. Wet the mop and use it. No need to dry the floor, but also don't let water pool on the floor. You want a good damp mop, but not puddles of water. (Streaks of water are ok.) If you don't already have a microfiber mop, you can buy them at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Home Depot, and even Dollar General. I've never used anything but a vacuum and a microfiber mop (plus water) on our laminate floors and they still look fantastic after all these years. Hope this helps. -
Q:I just got my wood floors refinished about a year ago. But over time I noticed the my floors are dull and blotchy. Recently I have used "Bruce" hardwood floor cleaner and "Rejuvenate" which both claim to shine and not leave a residue. I have tried washing the floors with water but still can't get rid of it. Why are my floors not shiny anymore?
Rule # 1 shoes off at the door. Sand in the yard or on the walkway get on the shoes and there you have it... Dull or scratched floors. pets can do just as much damage to the finish.
