Q:I currently have a house where the bathroom floor is rotting in the corner right by the bath tub, how do we fix this and then is there something that we can lay underneat the new tile to prevent moisture from getting through?
I'd go ahead..pull the tub...find where the water came from..put down a new sub floor..and floor..put a backer board up around tub...used to call this backer board green board..now they have one that's like sheet concrete(no, its not heavy....Lowe's has everything you need...not a bad repair for the do it your self-er
Q:Our builder is suggesting radiant heat floors and I think though I'd like the warm floors; if we have a problem with it, we would have to tear up tile floors. Anybody had experience with this?
Make sure you have zone controls for this or, you'll either cook your feet or freeze them. Another thing, they really eat up a linoleum or tile floor. You should ask him about ceramic for the floors.
Q:I have a GP Small Tent and want to add a floor. Do you have plans / ideas for constructing a floor?
A nice waterproof tarp combined with some education on where and where not to set up camp.
Q:My condo is on the 3rd floor & I'm looking to replace the 3/4 white oak floor with 5/8 strand woven bamboo. After removing some of the oak I have found that the sub-floor is a concrete slab (I'm unsure of the thickness) covered by 1/8 of insulayment underlayment. On top of that are two(2) layers of 3/8 plywood screwed to eachother with 3/4 screws. The plywood is not attached to the 1/8 insulayment mat or the concrete slab in any way. So my first question is, is this normal floor construction? My seconod question has to do with the fact that there appears to be green mold between the plywood planks & behind the baseboard. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance. I appreciate any help you can offer.
As the others have said it is normal construction. We 'float' the floor like that all the time. It's better if you live in a place where the weather changes dramatically. It allows the floor to expand and contract. As for the green stuff...it's probably mold, it's better to treat it, then to take a chance. I don't think it would be efflorescence (stuff that naturally comes out of the concrete), it's usually white. Remove a piece of drywall and see if it's traveled up the studs. Either way- clean it up before laying any flooring.
Q:1) Ground Floor2) Middle Floor3) Top Floor
id take top, less noise, good view, take the stairs for exercise, no one is walking past your room to get to the next floor.
Q:how do you clean parkay flooring
i've got a lot of woods floors in my house. i usually use straight water and mop it (rinse often) then after it dries i use a minwax wood floor cleaner (lowes). they look good after that!
Q:I pulled up my old vinyl kitchen flooring (7 years old) and found that the underlayment is in great shape except that the original vinyl was just glued about 3 inches around the entire perimeter. I scraped the old glue as best as possible and it is almost perfectly level with the rest of the floor. Does it need to be perfectly smooth where it meets the unglued edge or is a slight ridge OK to keep it from showing through the new vinyl flooring? I do have floor "sizing" that I plan to use where there are any nicks or impressions. Should I use the sizing around the edges and taper to the good flooring or am I overdoing this project? I plan to lay new vinyl flooring this wekend. I'd appreciate any good advice. PS: I also tried sanding the old glue to take off any high ridges using 80 paper. Thanks
Do you need to put anything under vinyl flooring when doing a cement floor in your basement.
Q:So I would like to coat my garage but my garage floor is not like most smooth cement floors it is a very bumpy floor. It also has a thin strip of wood running down the center of the floor. Is there anyway to coat this floor to get it smooth?
most garage floor paints are 'self leveling'... whichb means 2 things. you need a lot of it and it takes al ong time to set (they are epoxy based)
Q:My dog slobbers a lot on the kitchen floor when we are out. We come home to lots of very watery slobber on the floor. Our current linoleum flooring is old and needs replacement. I would like something in style but it needs to withstand the slobber. Thanks for any suggestions.
I'm a dog owner, too, and a DIY'r. Vinyl or tile is, IMO, your best bet. Wood will scratch and the other guy is right about laminate and wood needing spills wiped up very quickly. If cost is an issue, good quality vinyl will last for years and is easy to clean. Tile is more expensive but adds more value to your home. The choice is yours. BTW, that throbbery dog thounds like a real trip!
Q:ok i have theses 2 rooms that have laminate flooring in them and there is a water damaged spot almost in the doorway first rooms about 420sqft and the other rooms about 110sqft and right where the doorway is to the rooms is a spot that is water damaged and it's about 4ft from the starting wall can we cut up the flooring and replace it without having to redo both rooms is there a way to put it together backwards from starting wall to finish point?
If it’s the self locking, floating floor type yes, i have done it it can be carefully disassembled and all the reusable pieces saved and then re-installed you must have enough new pieces of the exact same floor to replace the damaged ones and re install all the flooring you removed pull up the molding that hides the edges of the floor and find where the last row of flooring installed is and lift gently to unlock all the pieces
