Q: I drive a 1995 Acura integra ls model I'm mechanically inclined just not enough to do a headgasket (more patience wise) my car loses coolant once in every 3 weeks it starts to over heat. I don't have white smoke coming out of the exhaust or milky oil. Everything else runs smooth on my car. I've head it pressure tested and every thing else checks out so I'm kind of lost. All hoses are fine and not leaking and there is no coolant leaks showing up on the ground. Any ideas?
Locate the water pump and look it over to find a small hole called a weep hole, it's there to let you know when the pump seal is toast. After you locate the hole, start the car and let it warm up and look at the hole again, it will be dripping because that's what I think it is.
Q: I recently took my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix in for an oil change, and was told that my water pump has burst. I knew something happened the previous night because all of a sudden my car was overheating and when I opened the hood there was water everywhere, Anyways I am currently a single mom, working temp jobs while I look for something permanent. I will try to put this simply. It is very serious. Water cools your engine and without the pump to circulate it, your engine will overheat and very quickly damage itself. Even if you add water constantly, it is not being circulated, your engine will overheat and the new water you will put in will probably instantly boil and rush up into your face. My advice. Don't drive it until you can get it fixed. Sorry, I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I am concerned for your safety and I don't want you to wreck your engine and you will if you keep driving it. The damage you can do is like this. The engine overheats and seizes up. This means that the engine parts, pistons and rings have expanded beyond design limits. They break inside and wreak havoc. The crankshaft and big end bearings can seize also. If all this happens, you are looking at a reconditioned engine. Fix your pump. It's cheaper
Q: I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna and it has 80k+ miles on it. I guess it is the drive belt that is making the noise and I decide to have it changed. I can have the timing belt changed too because it is due at 90k miles. The dealer guy told me that I should also have the water pump changed too because of 2 reasons:1. the new timing belt will cause pressure to the old water pump. If not changed, it will leak in weeks.2. it is cheaper to do it altogether.Without changing the water pump, it would cost about $300.All would cost $1000+.My friend who also has a Sienna that has more miles on it, told me that he did not have to change the water pump.Your advice about the water pump is?
Change the the timing belt if it breaks you can bend a valve the smaller import engine have what they call a zero (0) tolerance.For the water pump it runs off of the timing belt so since your timing belt is already off you should change the water pump.Another words you will need to tear the timing belt back out in order to change the water pump not if but when it goes out.The dealer price is not bad for a dealer you might be able to save a little more if you shop around GOOD LUCK

This should be a V6 engine correct. if looking at front of engine,toward the belt , the water pump is located behind pulley appox. 5 inches on the side toward radiator. highest pulley on right side of engine. Replacement can be performed easily without many special tools.. First loosens each of the pulley bolts on pump. Then release tension on belt and route away from pulley. Remove remaining pulley bolts and pulley , Water pump has 5 bolts holding it to cover assembly, Mark-index the way pump installs and remove. Clean all gasket material. Install new pump and gasket, refill system and to open air blled on cooler pipe near water pump to allow air to escape.

Q: I think my water pump has crapped out on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I have been leaking coolant for a few days now and there is a puddle under my Jeep after I turn it off and my reserve tank keeps emptying out on me. I replaced the lower radiator hose and still the same problem. It is not over heating so I am wondering if it IS a water pump problem? If it is, could I do the work myself?
First thing is to stop driving it or you will have a bigger problem (ask me how I know this). Next go to your local parts store and get a repair manual, a rebuilt/new water pump and some gasket sealer. Then get to work. Good luck!

Safe - Yup Because you wont be driving for long, your engine temp will go through the roof fairly quickly and probably cause the head gasket to blow/engine to seize. It wont happen within two mins as the engine need to reach temp first and even without a pump it will circulate to a slight degree, but it is slight and NOT to be trusted or relied up, watch the gauge and how quickly after starting it goes into the red. Buy another water pump, get a fresh gasket, fit it, refill your system and enjoy the road trip.

The leaking water is telling you that the pump impellor is worn and you need a new pump. Sealed Unit, cant be repaired.
