Q: does anyone know how to remove the water pump on an 84 corvette its killing me
take pictures during the removel process so to put every thing back together in reverse first remove shroud covering radiator.empty anti freeze from radiator into a drain pan and put it up out or reach from animals this will kill them than remove tranny lines from the radiator only,,, than remove radiator hoses at the radiator and water pump than remove radiator... next take fan belts off by losining altinator and moving it to take pressure off belts than remove belts if you have a serpentine belt get a chilton manual to find how to release tension from belt and remove belt take pictures so to put belt back on in reverse remove fan and pully off the water pump than remove bolts from water pump take water pump off than clean off all of the old gasket clean area with razer blade or scrapper with out damaging the flange.put new gasket and put every thing back together do not use gasket sealer a dry gasket will do..
Q: I just replaced my starter on my mustang and i when i took it out for a test drive i noticed the engine temperature rising. i drove for maybe 2 minutes max and when i parked the car it had a small amount of white smoke coming out of the engine so i let it cool down, and when it cooled down i checked the radiator, it had absolutely no anti-freeze, which is weird because i had just put a gallon of 50-50 anti-freeze maybe a week ago. So to test it i put 3 cups of water in the radiator turned her on and water was spilling from the water pump. So me and my dad have concluded we have to replace the water pump. I called up Autozone and they have a water pump replacement kit for $70. We don't have money too pay for the labor so can some1 please give me a step by step guide to replacing the water pump.
So did you get it changed? mine just broke. do you got any pointers?
Q: I took my car to a repair shop today, cause it was overheating,After looking at it for a few minutes the mechanic told me that it was a water pump problem. They quoted me a price of $276 to totally replace itI called around to my local auto zone stores and found out that the actuall pump cost for a new pump was $39 dollars, and I can get rebuilt pumps for 19 bucks, Is it that labor intensive that it would take so long to put in a 39 dollar part for over 200 bucks labor. Is that a fair deal, or am I getting ripped off.Additional Details, I didn't let them do the job yet, I took the vehicle home and just parked it in my driveway.
water pumps do not take that long to replace, i did the one on my car in about an hour, they probably quoted you a price on a dealer, or manufactures water pump, which is much more expensive i would get a price at a smaller garage possibly or look into doing it yourself,
Q: I have a Goulds JPlus water pump inside my home. Last night, my wife and I heard it going on and off repeatedly when we went to bed. I have two shallow wells hooked up to it, so I switched wells even though I didn't believe the one I was on was dry (it was supplying H2O fine).Still no luck, so I turned it off at the breaker and shut off the valve between the tank and pressure switch. Today, the pump pressure gets to between 50 and 60, then goes off. It then loses pressure v ery quickly (approx 10-20 seconds) and goes back on when the pump switch hits the lower threshold. It sounds like the water is running back through the pump and out of the house when it goes off unless I turn the shut off valve I spoke of earlier. I changed the pressure switch and no difference.I can, however, turn it on and shower, flush, etc. I just then have to go down and turn the pump back off.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If there is space try to hit the head of the bolt with a hammer, the shock from the hammer blow will help you to loosen the bolt. Failing that the next thing to try is an allen key socket, with this you can use a long strong arm to apply extra torque to the bolt. Be carefully not to open up the head of the bolt as this can be a major pain. If you still cannot get it out then if the water pump is to be replaced try to get an angle grinder on the bolt to cut its head off. Once the head is off and the pump is out you can use a stud extractor of a good vice grip to remove the stub of bolt left over.
Q: It stops and every few minutes and when it stops, it sounds like water is running.
Your pump switch's on when the demand for water is required. The pump, pumps water at a certain rate of P.S.I (Pounds per Square inch) and depending on brand of pump will maintain a standard of pressure through out the house. If for any reason the pressure drops, the pump will automatically kick in to maintain pressure and volume of water required by it. A leaking faucet, or a toilet that is constantly running will drop pressure slowly. Check all your plumbing fixtures, including hot water heaters/storage heaters, boilers, furnaces, and any item/fixture the requires water to see if it is leaking, or passing water into a drain constantly. If problem persists contact a plumber. If the pump starts to labor to much, or starts to run constantly if may burn out rendering the pump useless.
Q: I have two water well good water but not a lot of water .is it possible to hook two pumps up to one holding tank . if so how do I hook them up
Not sure I quite understand the question completely, but here goes. If you have one well of sufficient pipe size, usually no less than 1 1/2 coming up out of the ground, and a standard 1/2 - 3/4 hp pump won't pump much water out of the well, then the point is probably partially plugged with lime and crud. If that's the case, you can try putting muratic acid down the pipe, let it set for a day and then hook the pump back up and pump water for a couple hours out of the well. Or you can try shooting a 22 rifle down the pipe, sometimes the concussion of the bullet hitting the water is enough to push enough of the junk off the screen to allow a decent flow for a while. Or you can do the proper thing and have the point pulled and replaced, (you can do it yourself with a decent bumper jack and a well dri ver). Good luck
Q: Why is water pumping cool water is normal, but when pumping hot water pressure and flow are very small?
You look at what you pump that is, there are manuals to see how much the media can not exceed the degree,
Q: I am trying to evaluate my well water pump and water system to see if the pump is cycling on/off too frequently. What is the optimal quot;ontime? What is the optimal quot;offtime? I have heard the term quot;short cyclingquot;, but no times were attached. I have heard that too frequent cycling can cause a problem, but, again, no times were attached. How can one tell when the system is working within the optimal/normal range, so that no harm is being caused to the system? Thanks.
There is no optimum time. This is dependent on several factors. Assuming you are pumping into a small tank which is pressurized by the inflow of water from the pump (and the pressure also controls the pump) these reasons can be excessive use of water, the air space at the top of your tank has been absorbed into the water over a period of time and the volume of compressed air too small causing the pressure to drop too fast, or you could have leak in your water piping. If there is not enough air space in your tank, the pump will cycle extremely fast. If you don't have a tank, then the above information is incorrect. Good luck.
Q: I brought my car to a shop because I get no heat. The mechanic diagnosed my car as having a blown gasket head because there were hydrocarbons in my coolant. The repair cost was too high, so a I figured I'd just run the car until it broke on me. A month later I see it overheating on the way to work and a month after that it completely powers down (electrically) while I'm driving and I see a lot of white smoke (coolant was all over the engine). After it's had time to cool down I can start it up just fine. I pour coolant in and it comes right back out the bottom of the water pump.Could a bad water pump have been the reason for the hydrocarbons and no heat in the first place? Could it have caused the appearance of hydrocarbons in my coolant? If the head gasket is blown and this is just a symptom, is it cost effective to replace the water pump or will it just break on me again in a short time?
leaky water pump would cause overheating. *overheating* would cause a chamber gasket sealing issue. so it's not the pump that caused the coolant to fail the contamination test. it's collateral damage to chamber sealing caused by the overheat condition as a result of a bad water pump. the real Q here is the type of engine. we've no idea what that is or the yr/make/model of the platform. some engines have oil and coolant passages on the intake manifold. even if those passages are blind. so in the end, it could be an intake or head gasket that took a hit after the overheat condition. -------- cost effective to fix? couldn't tell ya. that would be determinded by the condition/value of the platform, and what all took collateral damage and cost of what needs to be done. since there's no vehicle or engine info, that can only be determined by you and a diagnostic tech of your choosing.
Q: My 1999 ford taurus WATER pump and serpentine belt need to be replaced because I can't stir the stiring wheel .... Would you know approximately how much this could cost so I dont get ripped off ??? I know nothing about cars... and this mechanic is saying between 300$ to 400$ and that is wayyy too expensive . It was kinda obvious to him that I know nothing about carsTHANKS A LOT!!!
