Q:throw rug: backing dried up and crumbled; any way to rehab the rug?
I've got a rug right now that the same thing has happened to. I had it in our yard storage building over two summers, and went to get it out to bring it back into use and the backing has crumbled. If I am thinking of the same thing, what you mean by backing is that rubbery, or gluey stuff they treat the back of the rug with to keep the pile from shifting.. I haven't done this yet, and it's going to be a bit of a chore, but I'm going to a fabric store to look for some kind of fairly heavy fabric, kind of like they actually use on those better quality rugs. It's attached only round the edges of the rug, but it would sure cover up the yukky look of the dried, crumbled sealant on the back. You'd need a heavy duty upholstery type needle to do it with, and then just turn the edges of the fabric under, and hand-stitch it to the back of the rug.
Q:An orange candle spilled on my light burber carpet. I've removed all the wax but now I'm stuck with an orange stain!!! Any suggestions on how I could remove it?
heat your iron, get a plain brown paper bag and a damp towel or damp rag. Lay the bag over the wax spill, put the damp towel on the bag; take the hot iron and hold ON the towel for a few seconds to a minute. May need to repeat a couple of times.
Q:I know carpet pythons are semi arboreal but do they need a vertical terrarium or would one be happy in a horizontal cage. And what is the minimum terrarium size for an adult jungle carpet python? Thanks:)
It depends on the size of the snake . They continue to grow so it really depends . I would say a 20 gallon long aquarium would be fine for most. You do not necessarily need a vertical cage . You do need a cage large enough so your snake can have hides/wooden boxes in different areas so he can have a warmer box closer to a light when he wants to warm up and a cooler hide/box in another area so he can regulate his temp. You can stack wooden boxes ( easily made ) with an entrance hole so that each one gets warm as it gets closer to your heat lamp. You could also put damp moss in one for a more humid hide . They are beautiful snakes a easy to care for . Just have accurate digital thermometers and one to measure your humidity level. I like to have one artificial branch for them to climb on.
Q:Ok so my friend threw up on my other friends carpet so she freaked and grabed toliet cleaner and put it on the carpet and then it hardend now its stiff on the carpet. We tryed everything I tryed a steam cleaner and lots of other cleaners and no luck can some one help do you maybe know a remedy please help
Probably the fibers are now chemically burned. No remedy. If the closets are carpeted, cut a patch from the back corner and exchange with the damaged section. Use double sided carpet tape to hold down the patch. In the future have some enzyme carpet cleaner for vomit and use that after cleaning up the chunks. Actually club soda works wonders.......
Q:cannot stop cat from urinating on rug. i keep washing and nothing helps . the smell is driving me crazy
Is it a female or a male cat? There are lots of variables in why a cat will do this. Sometimes it's because the litterbox is objectionable in some way - either the location, the cleanliness of it, the litter, etc. Quite often when a cat goes somewhere besides the litterbox, it's because it is either unhappy about something, or is ill. Urinary tract infections occur often and cats will begin to go somewhere that will draw your attention to it. Perhaps he/she is sick? My male cat started doing the same thing to the throw rug I kept in front of the door. Eventually, we discovered he had a bladder problem which made it difficult for him to go at all. Once the problem had cleared up (he had to have surgery), he started using the box again. As for the smell, it is hard to get rid of. You can get a rug treatment and apply it, or take up the rug/get rid of it. If the cat is going on the rug because something is wrong, it will probably happen somewhere else until the problem is solved.
Q:Ok so my toilet over flowed over night, which caused some water to go onto my living room rug(Clean Water). Its not too bad but bad enough that it needs to be cleaned. It dried up but now it seems to have white patch's on the rug? I really hope its not mold... but I just want to know does anyone know how I can clean this? Any special cleaning products??? Thank so Much.
If this rug is a machine-washable rug, just wash it in your machine. Then dry it in your dryer, but don't over-dry it. If the rug isn't machine-washable, take the rug to a Dry Cleaner. They should be able to clean it for you. Now if were talking about wall-to-wall carpeting, your best bet is to have the carpet professionally cleaned. Professionals not only can clean the carpet, they can add special deodorizers so that mold doesn't end up growing in the carpet. Cleaning just one room should cost that much. You'll be glad you used a professional for this job. Check your Yellow Pages under Carpet Cleaners. -
Q:I collect HAND MADE wool, silk, and cotton Carpets / Area Rugs from Iran (Persian Rugs like Qum silk prayer rugs that I display as a wall tapistry, plus floor rugs like Tabriz Kermanshah), Pakistan (Bukkhara)...so my question is what are the classical Turkish HAND MADE CARPETS callled (please no cheap Belgium machine made crap) and I've heards that they are sold at Instanbul's Old Bazzar (if I'm saying it right, and provide info on how to bargain with vendor)...please give description by NAME (generally carpets know by city/village), PATTERN (ex geometric, medallion in center), and COLORS if possible, thanksp.s. in the event I'm most likely to get Trolled at, YES I did say Persian Qum silk PRAYER rug, but NO I don't pray on it I'm not Muslim, it's just a breathtaking piece of art
Silk is not common in turkey but cotton and wool. Even our grannies were knitting carpets at home ( mine still knitting sometimes ). But most of em are factory-made carpets. Though i still know some places for buying some cheap and hand made carpets. I will first give the names of the cities and areas. Well known one is Isparta - Denizli region. Isparta is already famous with hand made carpets and also Denizli has villages like Buldan still keeping on business with hand made clothing and carpet. its including inner parts of Mugla and Denizli-Burdur-Isparta. Kapalicarsi is the last place for buying carpet or any other souvenir item. Im sure you also visited Far East. In india wooden souvenirs are not more than 5 bucks though you have to pay more than 50 in turkey. Its the same in Kapalicarsi. They buy carpets for funny prices and sell out maybe 10 times more expensive. Also , yes, Cappadocia region is famous for carpets but same rule, VISIT V?LLAGES WITH A TURKISH FRIEND ( Not with tour guides nor yourself), coz its our bad , not all behave to tourists ( over pricing ) well. Third region is around Maras - Antep - Iskenderun - Hatay ( south ). You can find many local workshop there for good and cheap. And last one is as we all know Bursa and might be the primary place for silk carpets. Though they are producing less than ever. But still might find out some workshops and villagers. As a summerize, first find a good and reliable friend from those regions, do not buy from touristic stores in case you dont like to be scammed. I cant say much about patterns but i know they even knit names and portraits on carpets. Its the technical part i dont want to mislead you...
Q:i cant seem to find a message board on OKorder, so i decided to ask here and hopelfully some helpful people. now i'm looking for the LARGEST area rug on OKorder. i looked, but the one i'm looking may not me the largest one. please help, it's for my living which is also large. thanks :)
Well, okorder /
Q:I need to clean a spot of urine from our oriental rug (from Dubai). It may have been a day old when I discovered it. I soaked up as much as I could with a paper towel but it has left a slight stain.
The guy at the store where I bought my oriental rug said to lift up the rug and put a large bowl under it, and then wet it thoroughly with water with a little dish soap in it. If that's not enough to get the stain out, go to a pet store and ask for an enzyme cleaner. this stuff really works, but you have to keep it wet. Once it's clean and your rinse with clear water, blot out as much water as you can and let it dry. It's best to let air circulate underneath as well as on top.
Q:We are going to replace our flooring in the basement, it has very expensive cushony white carpet, and over the years with kids and dogs, it no longer looks white. Our basement is just under 1000 sq ft, and don't really feel like ripping all the carpet up. Its a very warm, dry basement, no dampness or leaks. So could I just put the laminate over this instead of using an underlay? Or is that just asking for trouble later on?
Not with your carpet. It can be if the carpet is a very short, tight knit carpet that is glued directly down and no pad. Even then you need the proper underlayment. The locking systen will break if you don t have a firm base. So a soft carpet won t work. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar, I ve attended several installation seminars as well as installed a couple 100,000 s/f. GL
