Q: want to tile counter top with out using hardboard
It can and will hold up on one condition w/o a backer board.The top must be 2 3/4 ply wood or nova ply( HDF) , not the single layer counter top with the false edge that makes it look like its 1 1/2 thick. Other wise you need a backer board so the tile meets tile codes( ATC and TCA guide lines) for a minimum substrate which is 1 1/4 A few special thing need to be done but it will work. Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications GL
Q: What is half tiles
There is a very simple way to distinguish between the water is poured on the back of the brick very little water can be quickly sucked into the semi-porcelain is, and vice versa is all porcelain, and from the name and use can also The whole tiles are called antique tiles, polished tiles, tiles, matte bricks, etc., there are generally called with a certain stone, a certain jade, such as cloud shadow stone, amber jade, etc. are all tiles, The use of points on the majority of home clay floor of the earth tiles are all porcelain, and home bathroom, kitchen sticky porcelain tiles are all semi-porcelain, so now the mainstream is the use of matte, antique brick.
Q: Have very cheap lino in my kitchen. Am thinking of putting tile down myself.
It is not good because the linoleum is a soft surface and this would cause the tiles to crack. It is better to remove the linoleum. Even if you have to lay the tile over glue residue or some paper backing that remains after trying to remove the linoleum this is better than laying the tile over the soft linoleum.
Q: I need tips on how to install tiles around bathroom walls. I have the walls up and taped. Now what??? I leveled and drew a line under the window cell horizontal and vertical. 1) Do I start tiling from the tub up?2) How do I seal - or do I have to seal the tiles (Ceramic tiles 4x4)?3) What type of sealer should I use? Please give me a name that I can easily find @HD or loews.
You should start from the tub up. so you have a nice finished edge where it meets the tub. You start from the center of the long wall so that the cuts on each end are the same. On the short walls you start from the outside so that once agin you have a clean factory edge. Normally you don't have to seal bathroom tiles they have a gloss finish, right? You do have to grout them however, the tiling department at Home Depot will have a few choices, in many colours. Pick one that matches your tiling job, and the paint colour. Read the grouting instructions a couple of times. Be careful when mixing grout, a little water at a time!
Q: My husband and I are disagreeing about tile on the wall. What is your opinion about tile on the bathroom wall, half way up? Here are the yes and no‘s of arguments:YES:The tile is neutral and beautiful. There is a WOW factor when you walk in and see the extra tile. It‘s practical for our household with a one year old who splashes and may smudge a non-tiled bathroom wall.NO:It‘s old fashioned, not necessary and I would rather have empty wall space available to paint from top to bottom. There only needs to be tile around the bath tub, for splashing and practicality purposes.
I'm a huge fan of bathroom tile and I don't even have children but I'm putting it in my home. Bigger squares look much more modern than the older two color small squares do. Go with shiny white! Then the top half of the room can pop with as much color as you like!
Q: I am having carpet professionally install, but would like to tile my dinning area. Should I install the tiles first? And how should I leave the transition area of the tile?
Yes you should. The last thing that goes in should be your carpet. Out of all types of flooring, the first thing that goes in should be the dirtiest which is typically the ceramic tile. So start with the tile finish up with the grout and you can now install the carpet. Hope this helps. ;-)
Q: I am putting in a wood stove and want to make a mural behind it - should I tile the board and then put it up, or tile it on the wall. I am using wall spacers and cement board. I want to make a mural of a tree - the wall is 8‘ by 3‘ - should I cover the whole wall or just the part behind the wood stove? do I need special grout?thanks for your answers
Your best bet is going to be to go to your local craft store. They have mosiac tiles and grout you can buy. It would probably be a lot easier on you to put the mural onto the board first, then mount the board on the wall where you want it. How big the mural end up being is purely a matter of your choice, but before you actually mount them and tile them you will want to lay out the design so that you can have a solid idea of where everything needs to be, and whether you have enough tiles to do the job. If you don't want to buy the tiles they have at the craft store, I have heard of people using old dishes, broken up and used. Some people go to garage sales looking for dishes just for this reason.
Q: Anyone know how much I should expect to pay to have a professional install ceramic tile flooring? The prep work has been done. The tile is 12 x 12, there‘s about 90 sq ft of floor (concrete... sealed). I‘ve purchased the materials (tile, thinset, grout). I just want to know how much to expect to pay for labor. Is $5.00 per sq ft. too much? That‘s the quote I was given. Thanks for any help.
You should be able to find a legitimate contractor that charges around $3.50 per square inch. There are lots of private individuals that will do it for less, but remember, you get what you pay for. Five dollars per square inch is quite high.
Q: How to distinguish between good and bad tiles
Third, as long as the bottom of a more economical. Now I realize that in fact what paint is good. Hi or the master of the end of a light even in the eyes of my paint workers are not covered, take the initiative to brush the second time (the paint is my purchase, wages are fixed) after both the uniformity of color and wall The light fineness is quite different. I believe that the master in the United States or hi Canada in Canada should be publicity on both sides of the bottom. While the domestic publicity is to let the buyer feel that there is not the feeling of expensive only Bale. And the two paint is easy to wash the function is not how. My two friends are the decoration boss, their home is the most common use of the state forever forever. Blowing for two days without taste. 2, buy a wall paint must buy a small piece of light on the 1st color. After a large area of ??color will appear deep. 3, if there is later to fill out the wall, be sure to see whether the original wall and the same plane, I was to brush over the wall paint installed when the baseboard was found, knocked back;
Q: I have a kitchen that currently has 20X20 tile The kitchen has 40 tilesWhat is the square feet of the kitchen?
