- The definative answer from the engineering aspect is, the arc of the wiper is at the highest and covers the most visual area when the wiper is moving towards the drivers side, thereby giving the driver more and better vision. If the wipers were going the other way, the top corner of the windshield would not be cleaned off, causing a blind spot for the driver. On right-hand drive cars in other countries, the wipers push towards the right.

- Not sure but I think there was a recall for GM wiper motors in that age range. You can call any dealer and give them the VIN and they can tell you if there is any open recalls on your vehicle.
- Q:the windsheld with the switch in the off position all othe functions work ok.
- There is a park pawl on the wiper motor that has bent.you need to remove the wiper arms and plastic cowl to access the motor and either bend the pawl back, or replace it.once the arms and cowl are off, have a helper turn the wipers on, then off, you'll see the bent pawl clearly.

- Check at the base of the wipers. Sometimes there's a lock nut there that you can tighten. It's put there on some cars so the wipers motor doesn't burn out if you try to turn the wipers on when there's snow or ice on the windshield. Or, the motor could actually be burned out.

Just inside the open end of the U should be a small tab attached to the wiper. bend it away from the rubber part of the wiper and slide it out of the U or J at the same time. the new onee shold just click into place. You can look at the new one to see if you see the tab. also there should be directions with the new one.

- The linkage is the rods which transfer motion from the wiper motor to the wiper arms. Cost to replace ? That will vary widely depending on the car and how much work is involved to get at the linkage.
