- Q: I just bought it used for a work car and the car dosent come into itself until like 40mph. There is a small surge while excelerating like the accelerating kicking in. So lately it‘s starting the dies then try to start again it dies then another time it stays on. The temp right now is warm and dry. I cleaned the mass air flow I cleaned the idel air control valve. It has oil. What could be the problem. The resting rpms is around 700. Gas mileage is poor. Thanks ahead of time. :) Also I‘m very broke so going to mechanic not an option
- Sounds like you bought a car with lots of problems. It's hard to tell you where to start. Best bet is next time take the car out on some highway and run it fast and slow. Then take it to a parking lot and try a few hard stops and starts. Lift the hood and check for leaks or smoking etc. god luck.

- The ratio of forces on each piston is proportional to the ratio of areas. So, if one piston has 3 times the diameter of another, it has 9 times the surface area, because the surface area of a circle goes as the square of diameter. Therefore, 1 N applied to the small piston generates 9 N of force at the large piston. However, the distance traveled by each piston goes as the INVERSE of the piston area. So, in my example, if you pushed the small piston down by 18 inches, the larger piston would move by only 2 inches (one ninth as far).

- If you need to ask, then you can't afford it, and it's also not safe in the first place. The first answer was also great, and dead-on.
- Q: Can having larger tires in the rear than in the front of a FWD car cause Tie Rod to break??
- Not even close. The back of a car can't get high enough to break the front end. It had to have been done by impact (if broken) or age (if worn out).

- A lift will definitely affect the aerodynamics of your vehicle. As for whether it will *significantly* (that's the key, there) reduce your gas mileage -- well, that's hard to say. I wouldn't expect more than a mile or two at the most incredible most. But if you want a lift, get a lift because you want a lift. Don't get it and then worry about the other ramifications!

- maybe the master cylinder is bad and not releasing the pads away from the rotors and shoes away from the drums.

- That's just dumb. Spend a ton of money on 24s, and spend even more money lifting the car. Not to mention that it looks horrible. I say go with something smaller that doesn't require a lift.
