Q: My 2001 300M is behaving oddly. Occasionally it will gradually overheat after I have driven around for 15 or so minutes. Yes, occasionally. I took it to my mechanic who changed the thermostat and hoses. I then drove it on a trip on the interstate and over a mountain (140 miles ) It was fine with no signs of overheating. Then the next day when I drove to work in the city, the stop and go traffic had it overheating near the end of the trip. I've been able to keep it from going in the red by using the heater. After this happened most of the days, but not all, I took it back to the shop. He reported that the fans were working correctly and the only thing he could come up with is a weak water pump. He stated that when it did get hot, he was able to bring the temp down just by rev'ing the engine a little.Does that sound right? Any other ideas and how to test?: Sounds precisely like your water pump. I had the identical predicament with a cavalier. The pump shoud be around $30 to $50 or so. Price to alter? Quite often around $one hundred to $150. Might be extra so don't quote me on that. Every keep has their own hourly cost.

Q: Is it cheaper to run an electric water pump or a furnace?: If you live down south in the good old USA, yes it is cheaper money wise. Initial start up costs can be really steep though. I just saw a great system that has solar power along with the geothermal that was $15,000.00 You may want to own the house and I hope it is worth it as it will be awhile before you even out on the costs. This was a 3000 square foot home I saw the system in, so it may be cheaper, BUT, may even be MORE to install because your place may be smaller and what are local regulations ? Good Luck.

Q: I want to either get a kit to rebuild the water pump or just by the entire assembly, but im not sure which water pump/kit that i will need for a 1997 mercury 25 hp 2 stroke.Serial Number 0G474648,1997 year,model is 25el according to transom plate.Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thanks in advance.: Water pump rebuild kit from Mercury, part# 99157T2, about $65. The kit includes the impeller, all gaskets and seals, wear plate and pump body insert. Sierra marine offers a cheaper kit, but their kit does not include the wear plate or pump insert, and these parts cannot be purchased separately from Sierra, so I would not recommend this kit, unless your wear plate and pump insert have been previously changed in the last 3 years.

Q: I'm not familiar w/ this model but need to swap out the water pump. I have no pictures or publications. Anything in particular to watch out for? Is this a pushrod engine w/ a water pump mounted in the front center of the engine and driven by a serpentine belt? Thanks in advance.: It's very easy to change. It's driven by a serpantine belt but it's off center Right up front closer to the radiator and on top. Break the 13mm pulley bolt's loose, remove the belt, remove loosened pulley bolts and pulley. Then there's like 6, 8mm bolts to remove the pump and that's it. You might have to remove the overflow tank to make it easier to get to. The pump is round and looks like it will go on any 'ol way but it doesn't. It only goes on one way.

Q: i have a 97 mercury mountaineer and i recently got the thermostat changed in it. after doing so we noticed that the car was leaking antifreeze. we checked to make sure everything was tight and there was no cracks and my uncle said he thinks its the water pump how can i tell: Water pumps usually leak when they wear out. There is a weep hole on the bottom of it - you will see antifreeze coming out there. Another clue is overheating if the pump is not moving water.

Q: Could someone tell me the procedure for removing & installing a water pump on 97 buick skylark 3.1L 3100 SFI?: Water Pump Removal Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner (if necessary). Loosen water pump pulley bolts. Remove serpentine drive belt. Remove water pump pulley bolts and pulley. Note position of locate tab on top of water pump for installation reference. Remove bolts, water pump and gasket. Installation Apply thread sealant to water pump bolts. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Fill and bleed cooling system (fill reservoir and radiator, run engine until upper rad hose starts to become hot. Top off and replace cap) Torque Specs Water pump bolt................89 Inch Pounds Water pump pulley bolt .....18 Foot Pounds

Q: I have an 1982 El Camino 305 small block and am having troubles with determining if it is the gasket or the pump. I can't quite locate a leak, but it seems to centralize from the water pump and drip down the hose to the radiator. After my engine gets hot, which mind you my temp light has never turned on, and I shut of my car steam rolls out from behind my pump. I think it is the pump and please be it so. Replacement with a inexpensive part XP.): Pull the oil dip stick if it has little bubbles on it and it is discolored you have a blown head gasket.Then pull your radiator cap when engine is cold, is it full or not? You can not trust what I call idiot lights because they usually come on after the damage is done.You can tell if the water pump is working by letting eng get to normal and grasp the top hose and squeeze it just a little,can you feel water running thru it,if not replace it.

Could be a blockage in the telltale hose or nipple. Could be a blockage in the water jacket. Could be overheating for some other reason, (lean burning due to clogged carbs, inadequate oiling cause somebody forgot the oil, bad timing, etc.) and steam in the system is blocking the telltale. Forgot the water tube guide grommet and the water tube slipped off.
