Q: I am doing an estimate for my sprinkler system materials and it calls for Class 200 PVC pipe. I found a great deal on Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Will this work instead of the Class 200? What is Class 200?Thanks very much for your help.: Most PVC pipe is glued together, occasionally there are screw thread fittings such as at sink traps, unions etc. it would help if you gave more info on what you are trying to do. Added: If you are trying to disconnect the place where water enters the float valve. there should be a plastic or metal nut that unscrews off the bottom of the fill valve. Make sure you are trying to turn it in the correct direction to loosen. Because the nut is on the bottom of the tank, if you are above it and reaching underneath to remove, you will need to turn clock wise to remove. If you are on your back looking up at, it turn counter clockwise to loosen.

I started by buiding a base from a piece of 1 x 12 lumber 8' long (for the base). I screwed a one gallon bucket to each end of this board. Next, I took a section of the PVC pipe with a tee on one end (to anchor the pipe in the plaster) and poured plaster of paris 1/2 way in each bucket (the pipe was laid in at an angle facing the opposite side-with the pipe touching the bottom outside edge of the bucket and the top of the pipe about an inch away from the top inside edge of the bucket). I allowed the plaster to set up, then I cut the exposed pipe to about 4 above the top of the bucket and glued a sleeve on the end of the pipe. Next, I took and assembled two pieces of pipe (I don't remember the actual dimension) to form the arch to the desired height (I just shoved the ends of the pipe into the open ends of the exposed sleeves - no glue). You will be replacing about 1 foot of pipe. Get the proper size pipe and two collars. Mark the pipe one half the distance of the collar so the collar will be centered. Install the new pipe and collars and solder them back together. When you heat the pipe to solder the new one in heat the pipe and not the collar. When the pipe and collar are hot enough it will accept the solder. If you don't know how to solder you can buy compression fittings and use a wrench. Soldering is not that hard to do.
