I can use this thing in any room on any floor surface. I just dump the water outside and don't have to mess with dusty bags or filters. I've been using this machine for a few months now and people tell me they can definitely tell a difference in the quality of the air in my home. You would not believe the junk that this vacuum pulled from my carpet. A good thing to have in your home is house plants. These also clean the air.
