Q:I just purchased a Dyson DC 24 vacuum cleaner. The power cord is ridiculously short (claimed to be 20'...don't think so!) Some rooms can't be completely vacuumed with just one plug in to a receptacle. I'm thinking of replacing the existing cord with a longer one (30'). Is this something I can get at the local hardware store, Home Depot, etc? What gauge cord is required?: Extending the cord is flirting with a UL issue, but that being said, you might have a problem getting a cord the same style as the existing cord, but rubber cords (SOOW, SJOOW, SO, or SJ) are available in the bulk wire section, I would stay away from plastic types (STO, SJTO,SVT, SJT). And use one size larger that the existing cord, (smaller number = larger wire), because longer wire will suffer more voltage drop. Edit: Another thought occurred to me, you could shorten your cord, to like 18 and use a make an extension cord the length you need, and zip tie the end of the extension cord to the vacuum.

Q:What is the best vacuum cleaner made?: The Majestic by Filter Queen. It filters at .10 of a micron, which is 3 times smaller than HEPA, is actually a type 2 medical device, and is the only vac than can be legally operated in a restaurant while people eat. It also doubles as a 40 lb blower, and if you put it hose to hose with Kirby (the Kirby switched to high even), it will reverse the motor on the Kirby and suck the bag right out of it. It has a metal guard on the in port, so you can suck up a bolt, and entire ashtray of cigarette butts, it does not matter.... it will not clog, it will not break. Best vac ever.

Q:What do you think about dyson product?: IMHO, Dysons are the best available vacuum cleaners ever made available to the American market. The company seems bent on implementing new innovations on every new model they release, where as lame duck companies like Dirt Devil and Hoover continue to release the same old crap over and over. Besides, what other vacuum cleaners next to the Dyson's at your local store offer a 5-year warranty? That's right, Dyson is the only big box department store brand to offer a 5-year warranty, where as Hoover only offers 2 years at the most. If you are interested in getting a Dyson, might I interest you in the new DC17 model? Their new filtration system is more efficient at filtering sand and dust out of the airstream compared to the previous designs, and it uses an extremely aggressive brushroll that will not get hair wrapped around it, and will get deep down sand out of your carpet knap.

Q:thee is so much talk about kirby vacuum cleaners ,are they that good?anyway i want to test one and looking for one to purchase onlinewhere can i look?: We bought a used '94 Kirby in 1996. We paid $400. for it. I like the powerful suction, but it also comes with drawbacks. The following are my opinions about this Kirby: 1. I don't like the cost of replacing the filters (they're about $8. a bag and only have 3 bags in a package. 2. It's not easy to change from vacuum to using the hose. 3. It's kind of heavy and bulky and doesn't maneuver easily. In my opinion, it's not worth it. You can purchase a bagless Dyson for around $500. and they work great. Does the $1800. price include all of the attachments? Do you need all those attachments? Are all the bells whistles worth $1800.?

Q:Now one nipple is slightly larger than the other. How is this problem resolved? Can it be fixed?: Haha! Sorry, I got a visual... Anyway, I'm sure the one is just bigger than the other because the suction made it that way. I'm sure it's just swelling, and will go back to normal after an hour or so. In the meantime, you can put some ice on it, to stop the swelling.

Don't put them back in the box, that sounds horribly full of unnecessary work every time you want to vacuum. Other than that, I can't think of anything. Look for weird little nooks in your house-- there's a good sized gap between the side of the fridge and the wall that's probably big enough for a vacuum in my apartment, so maybe you could find somewhere similar.
