Q:Which is stronger, Wood or Steel?
steel bridges that have been made of wood lasted way longer than steel bridges NOT true. Why do you think bridges are made from steel or concrete, and not wood? wood rots and splinters and doesn't last more than 10 years when exposed to the weather. .
Q:Question about steel type used in bridges.?
It is used for other things besides bridges and that might be a bad use. Corten was used for very tall light standards in the Fort Worth Water Gardens with the clear understanding that it was to be kept dry. As time passed and personnel changed, somebody decided the round base with bolts sticking up was ugly and put dirt and plantings in the basin in the concrete holding the poles. The watering of the plants kept the rust going through the steel and one pole eventually fell, killing two people. The other light poles were removed.
Q:Why is brass ammo considered superior to steel cased ammo?
Q:Heat transfer through steel?
I can asnswer this from practical experience. If the tube is sealed, temperature would rise approx. 25 deg F. If the tube were open the temperature would be less that a 10 deg F rise. The exact answer can be found in any book on thermodynamics.
Q:Will painted steel rust?
Painting a piece of steel will coat it with a protective layer, causing it to not rust (not get oxidised). Aluminum does not rust.
Q:Magnet will not stick to stainless steel?
That's interesting that it caused deflection in the compass. A lot of stainless steels may be SLIGHTLY magnetic, because they have small amounts of ferrite or alpha-iron in them. Ferrite is one of the crystal phases of steel. It has a body-centered cubic (BCC) structure and it's responsible for the magnetism of ordinary steels. Adding certain elements like nickel, manganese, or molybdenum, changes the crystal structure of the steel to a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure, which is NOT magnetic. This crystal phase is known as Austenite or gamma-iron. However most iron alloys contain some impurities that may cause the steel to be not completely transformed into the FCC austenite phase, small areas remain as ferrite.
Q:Good carbon steel knife?
Well, They did make other folders in M2 steel, but the thing is those are out of production and the cost is very high. Spyderco made M4 steel folder knives, and so did Benchmade. Although, both are outside of 50$ budget. I guess Opinels are best option.
Q:can I freeze steel?
Hey man, don't you think it would save more $$$ to cool your coke in the fridge than trying to cool steel? How do you plan on cooling the steel? And you can't freeze steel but you can make it cold. You are just joking right, I hope so anyway?
Q:Should I keep my steel cents as an investment?
They'd never be worth much for their steel content, likely always less than face value. They might be worth a premium as coins, but not anything you'd call an investment.
Q:stainless steel not so stainless?
Dear pwrgrlmanda, I also use stainless steel. I have found the best way to clean any cookware that has food baked or cooked on it is by filling my sink with the hottest water possible, submerging the entire piece of cookware in the sink and then liberally sprinkling cascade powder over the top. Allow it to set overnight and usually in the morning everything will come off with a nylon scrubber. It really works! No more elbow grease. This also works for corning ware, glass baking pans, cookie sheets etc. Hope it works for you.
