V J is right when he says that steel is the most recycled commodity on the planet. When the price of steel is high, everyone in the steel recycling and forming industry wants their equipment up and running - that's what keeps my husband employed. You would buy some of the steel for a cruise ship from an industrial roll mill, it would likely need to be 3/8' or more thick, not sure how big the rolls would be. Other steel would be purchased from a bar, angle, flat and channel mill, and still other material for your cruise ship would come from a mill that casts beams and other structural parts. My husband made the hull for a 41' steel sail boat by himself, it was all made from steel materials that were readily available in the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. China sells steel - lots and lots and lots of it.

Q:Wear on Non-Stainless Carbon Steel Chef's Knife?
Carbon steel chef's knives out perform stainless in every aspect except 1, care. You can't put them in a dishwasher. Wash, rinse and dry off. Do not keep them in a drawer filled with other kitchen stuff, rather, keep them in a cabinet or block. Q:Conductivity question for electricity through stainless steel?
Stainless steel is not such a good conductor as copper and the only metal with better conductivity is silver. Additionally, stainless steel will corrode in certain very corrosive environments without the presence of oxygen - i.e. when immersed in salt water. If you're getting problems caused by corrosion of the copper contacts you use there may well be a trade off so my advice is to do a trial and see what works best. Soldering to steel is difficult. An electric iron may be enough depends on power. The steel must be clean. An abrasive like fine steel wool,fine sandpaper or even a rubber pencil eraser will work. Next an acid flux for the solder. Most electronic solder flux is not active enough for steel. Plumbers solder usually is. Plumbers solder is Lead free and has a slightly higher melting temp.
Q:For those metal experts out there, steel or stainless steel.?
S/S. We use clam rakes around here, I think they have a S/S basket with steel teeth to dig into the sand. By the way, I believe S/S is just steel with nickel added, but I could be wrong.
