Q:What is the Shear Modulus of Steel and Silver?
Modulus Of Rigidity Of Steel
Q:Why does stainless steel get rusty?
the stainless steel has some chemicals that it will react however most house hold use will not result in rust
Q:Vegan ANSI Steel Toes?
Vegan okorder.com/... I don't know if they're ANSI shoes, so you might want to ask.
Q:Decorating stainless steel refrigerators?
I am a designer and have had to work with this issue in families where children's artwork is proudly displayed. You can frame a piece of sheet metal and hang on a wall in the kitchen. The website had step-by-step instructions:
Q:What are the components of Stainless Steel?
The stainless steel is a family of ferrous alloys containing at least 11% chromium. The effect of this amount of chromium in steel in reducing corrosion is dramatic. There are many grades of stainless steels. By varying the chemical composition, heat treating, and cold-working, a wide range of properties is achieved. There are three types of precipitation hardening stainless steels: *martensitic types, which are supplies in the martensitic condition, are hardened by a simple aging treatment of the fabricated part. *Semi austenitic types, which are supplied in the austenitic condition, are transformed to martensite by special heat treatment before precipitation hardening. *the austenite in the austenitic types is precipitation hardened directly. The heat treatments of precipitation-hardening stainless steels are chosen to optimize mechanical properties. Precipitation hardening generally results in a slight increase in corrosion susceptibility and an increased susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement.
Q:Can gold be added to steel?
Since steel is already an alloy (iron with other metals or carbon), you're not alloying gold with a a metal per se. It is possible, though, to alloy gold with steel. However, the creation of any alloy has a practical application behind it. For example, gold is alloyed with silver and copper because otherwise, the gold is too soft to stand up to the use it is intended for and needs to be hardened.
Q:How is steel galvanized and why?
Steel can be galvinised by electroplating process. Galvinising means providing a zinc coating on steel surface. It protects the material from rusting and loosing the shinining.
Q:Why nickel makes stainless steel non-magnetic when nickel itself is ferromagnetic?
Steel is magnetic because of the alignment of the spin in the electrons of the atoms in the crystaline matrix of the steel. Nickel atoms are not the same size as Iron atoms and Chromium atoms. by having several different sizes of atoms in the alloy, it prevents a uniform crystaline matrix from being formed. If you imagine a box of marbles that are all the same size, they will all settle into a regular pattern in the box. But a bunch of mismatched marbles will be jumbled together in irregular patterns. This prevents the magnetic properties of either element from asserting itself.
Q:dose oxygen peroxide rust stainless steel?
Stainless does rust over time (EVERYTHING rusts it's called oxidation) Whenever something comes in contact with oxygen, the molecules will bond with the oxygen to form an oxide. Iron form iron oxide or rust which is reddish brown, apples turn brown after several minutes after it's been bitten. It all depends on the type of material used to manufacture the stainless. Stainless is made up of .2%-2% carbon, 11%%-28.5% chromium and iron. Some stainless is further advanced by adding other metals like nickel, molybdenum or niobium. Most stainless pocket knives are either normal steel coated with stainless or a cheaper form of stainless (it will have a high 300 number or very low 400 stamped on it). Other time, stainless will rust when a form of iron scratches the surface and contaminates the stainless, this is easily treatable if you get it quickly. Oxygen peroxide should not rust it, since the oxygen has already bonded with each other to form peroxide (2 oxygen molecules). It's the simplest form, but not the most stable (which means it could make your knife rust further). But I recommend steel wool or a scratch pad used to clean cook where (usually green or brown) to remove the rust.
Q:For those metal experts out there, steel or stainless steel.?
Whilst doing a welding course a few years ago the teacher said stainless steel was not its proper name,it is called Heat and Corossion resistant steel,it come in different grades related to its corossion resistance, priced accordingly.Must be welded properly without introduction of carbon to the weld (carbon pickup) or the weld might not be there next time you look dependant on environment.Generally harder to form than mild steel (low carbon steel) so it will tend to be stronger than lcs for the same cross section.steve
