- Q:I have a 5-6 inch tear in my leather sofa starting at the seam and going downward in the cushion where the sofa reclines. I am not sure how to fix it and I can't afford the $300 I was qouted to repair it by a professional.
- hi see i can make out that its your fav sofa, and u didnt want to loose it. so why dont u increase its life by having it repaired by professional. else try this 1. get hold of needle big enough to go 2 to three inches deep. surgeons curved needle will be best. 2. get thread, freferrable nylon thread, again surgeons black/flesh colour thread will be ideal. 3. start from the ends where the tear is just about to widen. 4. give astich tight enough to bring the two ends of leather together and close the tear. 5. continue in a cross stich till done. 6. again at the ends give double stich. 7. then use a sticker to cover this portion. BEWARE it may leave aslight rough edge at the point of stitch. happy hunting
- Q:i dont have much room and need a place some family members can sleep on for a while. Anyone know which one of the two is more durable and comfortable to sleep on?
- During my college years I had two futons in my living room and on occasion I slept on them. If you are average weight to less than average weight then a few nights will be fine. Long term - not so much. As an adult my couch is a queen sleeper sofa with the extra comfort mattress that you use an air pump to inflate and it is much better. Bottom line is how much you are willing to spend versus how much actual use it will get.

- I think it is derivitives of the same thing in different languages...since furniture comes from all over the world and different eras in history. There may be subtle differences in details such as arm style, back height, attached cushions, etc. based on the historical period and country that originally started that idea. Sorry I don't have those details for you. It is all common terminology for the same thing: an elongated chair that seats more than one person. And different places in the US are probably used to calling this thing a certain word but as usual we may not know what we are really talking about based on the historical facts.

We have a Lazy Boy leather sofa and love seat. Each has two recliners built-in. We've had them for many years and use them heavily. I would buy them again.

- Yes, a sofa table is a great way to liven up a room, though as others have said, it's best to add one in the same style as the rest of your furniture. A classic sofa table is quite tall, though lower than the back of your sofa, quite long, but shorter than your sofa, and not very wide. Sofa tables look great with lamps on, if there's nowhere you can plug these in, use a pair of candlesticks or some matching ornament, and put flowers in a low vase in the middle. Many people find a desk is just the right height and length to use as a sofa table, and if you want one in your living room, behind the sofa can be a very good place to put one. An alternative is a low bookcase. You get storage on the shelves for ornaments and/or books, and a surface to display your flowers, lamps and other ornaments.
- Q:I love Edward Gorey. Most of his works, I can figure out. I recently got my hands on The Curious Sofa. The ending confused the hell out of me! Did Alice die? What happened?!
- Um. It's three o'clock in the morning where I am so I won't be able to get my hands on the book for some hours but... The first point is this book, like most of Gorey's work is a game. If you read ABOUT him, you will discover he was more reticent about his private life than Andy Warhol (and this was apparently less of a pose). The book can be described as about innuendo more than anything else, so, while one might possibly say, the sofa ATE everybody, the proper response to that would be how inappropriate. In other words, he was writing a book about his attitude towards discussing sexuality, and this was why it was called A pornographic work. He clearly thought it was a good thing to convince people the sofa ate everybody, but he wanted to leave a little mystery about it. EDIT: Checking it, of course, has proved more complex than -- it should have. I finally have, though. What I said was almost correct. Simply put, yes. He is alluding to the story of the Egyptian -- queen, I think it was -- who invited her enemies to a feast then then in the middle of the meal let in the Nile, or the story of Dracula who invited some poor citizens to a feast in a hut he sealed and burned the house down. I won't say Sir Edward murdered everyone for the reason I cited above: it's inappropriate. Gorey wanted the end of this book to be as ambiguous as possible.
