It's a great choice if you have children or pets or are in the habit of eating/drinking on your sofa and expect the occasional spill. Usually a damp cloth works but even grimy and matted fabric can be cleaned up with the help of some fabric cleaner. The hand marking is inevitable because the material has a pile. There is no way to prevent this. Agreed it's not the best look but you can get rid of it by brushing the pile in one direction then look but don't touch!

- I have had a red sofa for a few years now, actually I have had two different ones. I keep the rest of my living room pretty neutral and the red pops. I also have red Accents around the room like candles and pictures. I have a zebra rug though and it looks so good with the red sofa but that's not for every one. I have found that it is versatile, but I don't want to change things up much. If you aren't going to stick to it I would say get a neutral color.

- Without knowing where you are and a little about the sofa, this is impossible to answer. There are sofas that are modular where the the arms, deck and back are upholstered separately and bolted together. Even if these have features like skirt and welt, it will be more extensive. Worst case is a fairly extensive un-upholster and re-upholster, at which point, it's probably not worth the money to do it, as it will exceed the purchase price.

- It all depends on the type of stain ... I have three microfiber sofas and I treated two of them with Scotchguard and one (the first one I bought) I did not. Most spills or stains come up from the sofas with a bit of resolve and a gentle rub but the sofa I did not scotchguard does have one grease stain on it that I could not get to come up. I would say better safe than sorry and invest in a can of Scotchguard ... just remember to let it dry completely before using the couch again.

- make sure you have deep pocket sheets. You need to buy large sized or over sized mattress sheets. I have a similar problem with my tempurpedic, I think it is the foam, the sheets do not move as freely as they do on a regular mattress, so if you move the sheets tend to move too. You can also buy fastners that clip on to the sheets unser the matress, they do help, but again on my bed the middle of the side has risen by morning.
