Q:I am making a unglazed ceramic tile-mosaic table and I know I have to seal the tiles as well as grout and then seal the grout. Can I use a tile-sealer as a grout sealer? Or do I have two use two different products?: Sealers for ceramic or porcelain are useless. These materials are non porous. The best advice I can give you is to use a dark color grout. What the guy above said is right.

Q:Can ceramic tile be applied over my existing formica counter tops? They are in good shape, just ugly. They are not molded, but the formica is not loose anywhere and would probably be hard to remove. Anyone have any experience with this sort of project?: Yes okorder /... Q:i have vinyl tile in my dinning room(high traffic) its new but its not brillant ,and i saw a mantenance guy last night in wallmart using a buffer machine to pollish the tile..my question what kind of pad the used?they use any quimical with this pad?..how often this treatment its needed?: With Vinyl tile, you can go to home depot or menards and buy a floor finish specifically for the tile. It'll be like mop and glo only more permenant. It goes on with a sponge mop or an actual floor refinishing pad or I find that the applicators they sell for painting walls that have a replacable sponge and a plastic handle work the best. Just make sure your floor is very clean and dry. Apply in one direction, overlapping each pass. If you see lines, then you could buff it out. You can apply it as often as once every year or just as needed. Just make sure to read the label on the back because sometimes you have to strip off the old finish to put on a new. It depends on the product, though. They also make a product called renewal that can go over any old finish. You could check into that too.

Q:Can you lay down those adhesive floor tiles on top of existing tiles? If so, what kind of prep do you need to do to make sure they stick properly. I‘m not sure what type of tiles are in place now, but they are similiar to the types used in schools and other institutions. Very cheap, flexible, and bland. I want to lay something down in place of them, but don‘t want to rip them up. Is that possible? Thanks!: I've seen it done before. You have to make sure the floor is super clean, not little bumps or crusty stuff for sure. Then, don't line the tiles up directly on top of the old ones, but offset them instead. The stick down tiles will last for a while, but the ones that were in the bathroom at my old house peeled up after only 1 year cause of the water.

Q:I am planning on laying down tile in my dining room and kitchen. I recently saw an offset pattern with 12x12 tiles and liked it. I‘ve now decided to go with the same offset pattern but with 20x20 ceramic tiles. Would I still have to find the center of the room and start tiling out from the center or can I just start at one wall and go from there since i‘ll be using the offset pattern? Q:I am thinking of doing a school based apprenticeship in tiling how much money will I get? and how long is the apprenticeship last for my m said around 4 years?: First of all I applaud your thinking of doing an apprenticeship. A tiler once told me that all you need to know about tiling is 'one on top of another, shiny side out' ! If in UK check out your local F.E. College which usually run a full range of courses in the various building trades. If you want an apprenticeship rather than a stand alone course, why not contact a reputable local builder who may take you on and train you on the job together with a college course. Good luck.

Q:We had redid our cupboards a couple years ago and still have to properly cover the hole that was left for the vent on the previous vent system. It looks like they used staples of some type but the way it is just needing 1 and a half (or less) tiles it‘s awkward.: Most ceiling tiles have a tounge groove so each tile fits into another. When you are piecing in tiles it's impossible to get the tounges in the grooves without breaking them. I would suggest, cutting off the tounges with a razor knife and install with Liquid nails or some other construction adhesive. To keep the tiles in place while the glue is drying, cut a 2X4 long enough and put it under the tile while the glue sets up. You might want to put a towell between the tile and the 2X4 to keep from damaging the tile. For the 1/2 tile, score the backside of a tile with a razor knife then break it in half.
