Q:should replace timing belt & water pump on a newly purchased used vehicle..if no records of last x changed?: better to do it now than in the middle of winter when you have no choice good luck

Q:Hey guys, I have a American Volkswagen Jetta 1999 manual transmission Gas Fuel, and the water pump is messed and I need to know where it goes. In front of the radiator? or somewhere else? Does anyone know where I can get any websites showing me instructions? Thanks.: I buy a Haynes manual for every car I buy. They are specific to your car, have great details, and include pictures. You can buy them at auto parts chain stores for under $20. They are creating CD/DVD versions, but I don't want to touch my computer when I'm greasy. Definitely replace the timing belt while you're in there (and every other belt along the way). No sense in putting in all that work and not replace a $10 A/c belt.

Q:i took off the lower unit to fix the gears. im not sure ill be able to put it back on with out knowing how things work in there.so how exactly does the water get pumped. and what does it have to do with the gears, because even though the prop wasn't turning, the water was still pumping.thanks.: did you put the dot of adhesive on the Keyway to hold it from slipping out of place ? Are the pump plates worn around the impeller ? If you just replaced the Impeller and NOT the whole housing, and plates, that is NO GOOD, you must replace the whole unit.

Q:does any one know where the water pump is located on a 97 nissan altima? and where can i find one, would pep boys have one?: most cars, it is in the front, driven by the timing belt. If you are going to replace the pump, replace the timing belt also (if there is one), as it's probably overdue, and you have to remove it to get at the water pump. Also the tensioner. Replacing the timing belt is a difficult task. If you screw it up, you could damage the engine. .

Q:I have a toyota supra 83 Mechanic said water pump is leaking into engine causing white smoke. He said that hell have to replace water pump nd all gaskets estimated about 500+$ is this accurate? Also water resevoir mysteriously loses water can it be a symptom?: Sounds fair to me. if it's a 7mgte have him do the timing belt while he has it all apart.

Q:We have fresh running water..no well... We just want to install it on our playground for the kids to experience a manual water pump. Can it be attached to running water? Do I need a tank? Help! Thank YOU!: You can bury a tank, not metal or you willl be pumping rust. I would use fiber glass totally enclosed except for a fill hole which you can fill with a hose. Or run pvc to a water supply with a valve, cover it with planking and set up the pump over the planking. Some farm and feed supplies may have a lot of this.

Q:I have replaced the presure switch on my water pump but it switches on and off when it is building up presure instead on staying on until it gets to right presure.Any ideas of what is causing this?: The switch may have gotten some debris in it. Try removing it(again) Clean the passage way out. If possible try running the water a few seconds while this is off to clear any debris than reinstall and check. It also could be low pressure in the expansion tank or a bad bladder in same.

Q:I installed a new water pump on a Cherokee straight-6 engine, the upper radiator hose is not heating up and the engine is starting to make a funny noise. The thermostat is new and was working fine before. The coolant reservoir is full and no more coolant will drain to radiator / engine. Q:does anyone know how a water pump works????????????: Water pumps are available in different types. 1. Centrifugal type: Operate by increasing the velocity of water which, when the velocity is decreased by the Volute casing, the pressure increases. 2. Rotary Gear type.: Operate by Displacement of the water by rotating, gears that trap water between the teeth of 2 rotors of inter-meshing gears that release the water at a higher pressure on the opposite side of the pump to the intake. 3. Piston (reciprocating) type: Also a displacement operation by a piston moving backwards and forwards within a cylinder (like a hypodermic syringe in operation). Back stroke takes water into the cylinder and forward stroke discharges it at a higher pressure. (Double acting types are also used that take in and discharge alternately from both ends). If you mean the water pump of your car, they are generally of the Rotary type.

Q:What are some good brands of aquarium water pumps? I have had bad experiances with Hydor Seltz (cheapest ones I could find, ugg, I know, you get what you pay for) pumps, failing very quickly, and sounding like plastic gears grinding around inside.
