As can be seen, carbon fibre has excellent strength and low density. If these two factors are considered together, therefore looking at ‘specific strength’, then the benefits of carbon fibre look even more impressive. This is highlighted in the graph opposite.
Manufacturing Process -
How are the tubes made?
When the laminate has been designed and verified by our engineers the individual patterns are fed to our 5 metre long CNC cutting table which cuts out each pattern precisely. The materials we use are cloths which already have the resin matrix impregnated in to them, known as pre-pregs.
Next, these prepreg layers are wrapped around the male tooling (mandrels) which determine the Inside Diameter (ID) of the tube. These patterns are wrapped in an exact sequence on our machine driven rolling table to ensure consistency and accuracy of the lay-up.
The tubes are then subjected to a high temperature curing cycle under pressure in our electronically controlled ovens and finally removed from the tooling using a hydraulically powered puller mechanism.
Once complete, the raw blank is then ready to be machined and finished in line with the design specification.
The process of carbon fiber tube

- Just clean the copper pipe ends with wire wool, flux all joints place all fittings together and strike up your blow flame, play the flame over one joint at a time until you see silver solder bubbling out of the joint, don't worry about the elbow bends you can sweat both joints together at the same time as the heat will travel through the copper pipe equally. Make sure the solder has caught all round the pipe in a continuous loop, when you see this you will know the joint is made, so play the flame away for that area. Don't overheat the soldering process or too much solder will run out.

- Exhaust piping is commonly made up of carbon steel . You can get carbon steel exhaust piping with and aluminzied coating which tends to protect it from corroding to soon. The next level is 304 stainless which has even better corrosion resistance due to the lower carbon content. On the high end is 314 and 316 stainless. To check the property of the metal stick a magnet on it . If it is carbon steel or aluminized steel the magnet will stick to it. If it is 304 , 314, 316 the magnet won't stick. Dont use a oxy/act system if you are not experienced with it . You will end up torching your car. Use a sawzall / reciprecating saw aloneg with safety goggles for the eyes. Once you figured out your design take the pipe to a muufles shop and have them expand the ends . They will charge you around $20 . Long term savngs compared to the oxy/act system . Its old skool. Plasma cutters are the in thing now

- Q: I am wondering what everyone prefers. I am new to working with all of this. I want to be able to do collage pendants. I have done some research so I kind of know what I can and can't use with the different products. Like obviously nothing plastic with the Amazing Glaze because it will melt. But it says with the Amazing Glaze it will be slightly yellow after drying. How bad is it? I am using antique gold and copper plated pewter pendants. So a little yellowing would be ok, but I don't want anything to look dirty. Ice resin is nice but VERY expensive. A little advice would be fantastic!! Thanks everyone!

- I believe what you refer to is called PEX. There are other trade names as well, but this is what I use. The piping itself will contract when thawed and will (has not yet) not leak. You should be aware that the piping is supposed to be freeze resistant, but the brass fittings used for the connections are NOT. Find some comfort in the fact that It is extremely unlikely that the fitting will freeze and crack, given the amount of flexing in the PEX piping. Also know that this type of piping is not designed to be used outdoors or where sunlight may contact it. The components will breakdown leading to failure. The piping needs to be covered to prevent UV light from hitting it. There are other factors too, like needing special tools for the connections and not scratching or gouging the outer sheath, etc.
