Q:We laid tile in our shower and I used too much grout. Now I need to know how to get the grout lines even without damaging the tile. Any help would be appreciated.
thats a problem, grout is cement , it will take something thats abrasive, like a wheel grinder, ? got me stumped i,v been at this for 50 yrs, never have figgered that one out,
Q:Is there a way to paint dark green tiles? I also want to paint my white cabinets- what should I be aware of (sanding, etc) Anything else I need to know? Thanks!
With your tiles if you want to paint them darker then yes you can buy specific tile paint, which involves using a primer first then the paint, but to go lighter i think u may struggle as covering any dark colour and going lighter is tough. As for your cabinets, depends what they are made of, if the r solid wood a light sanding and primer should suffice, if they have laminate fronts(shiny) i wouldn't bother trying to paint them, just buy new fronts, its often as cheap as buying all the paints and primers etc!
Q:like on the tiles of the floor
Well, if you're using self-stick vinyl tiles, I guess so. You can remove them using a spatula. I guess they would stick to just about any clean smooth surface, like tile, without harming it. If you have really bad CERAMIC tile floor, with tiles missing I would first try to get some tiles from a tile shop, any color, and glue them into the holes. This way the vinyl tiles won't sink into holes. I would buy only the self-stick vinyl tiles, not the kind that need special adhesive. Maybe you can buy a few, stick them down, and see what happens. If you don['t get the floor sopping wet it will be fine. Another thing you could do: Make a big paper full size pattern of bath floor, using tape, glue, kraft paper (available in large wide roll at home depot. Cut and fit pieces so that you fit all edges well. Buy a piece of SHEET VINYL FLOORING, lay the pattern on top, mark edges with fine Sharpie marker, cut carefully, using construction utility knife. with vinyl flooring laid on top of thin wood, so you can cut through with knife. Or maybe the place you buy sheet flooring will cut it for you. Lay it in place. You may have to glue with 1 inch wide around edges, but can do this later. Just remember, if your paper pattern is poor fit, your final floor will make it look even worse.
Q:What is the finish height of tile after grout and tile??? For example if I were to lay tile how much would it bring up the floor?? 1half inch???
I answered a similar question to this a couple of weeks ago. I just put in approximately 300 sq feet of ceramic tile in new construction. Using 5/16 cement board screwed to sub floor. The finished height is approximately 3/4. This includes the cement board, thinset mortar and tile. There are multiple ways of increasing the thickness, like put layer of thinset down before installing cement board (adds approx 1/8) or use multiple layers of cement board you can get it from 1/4 to 3/4. Use more or less thin set under tile. Best to measure the thickness of tile and cement backer board. Then add in 1/8 to 1/4 inch for thin set to get approx thickness.
Q:My wife noticed that our kitchen tile is made of a stone type substance not the traditional shiny type. well, i have to re grout the floor but now i also want to put a sealant on top of the whole floor. whats the best stuff and way? ty
Tile Lab, Cerama Seal and Miracle 511 is the 3 main ones I ve used over the years with out a problem. Get one that is a penetrating sealer which can be used on grout as soon as 72 hrs after grouting. But if you truly have a stone and not a glazed product you ll want to seal the tiles before grouting and then 72 hrs after to seal the grout and then seal the grout twice, Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. Q:I‘m installing a kitchen back splash of 1 x 1 glass tile. Right now there is drywall where the tile will be. I‘ve read that it is better to use cement backing board as a substrate. Is this really necessary or can I just use thin-set to mount the tile directly to the drywall and then grout as usual? Thanks for your help!
Hello Samsonite, I would have to disagree with using mastic. If you were using something that had a good absorption rate it's be different, but glass is so dense it'd take forever for the mastic to set up. Most manufacturers of glass tiles recommend using highly modified thinset (Customs Building Product's Megaflex at HD or TEC's Superflex at a tile supplier). I have found the Superflex to have the most brilliant white color when cured, providing the best background for your colors to shine. Drywall will be fine. You may want to key in the mortar you choose by flat troweling it on the drywall before combing your notches. This helps to ensure 100% coverage. Q:We have tiled around our jetted tub about halfway up the wall and the top and around the edges does not look finished. Do we add trim there or something else?
Bullnose tile if your tile has it available, not all tiles do.. If it doesn t, there are some decorative tiles that can be used. If not there are metal and plastic edging made for this purpose. Several types but one of the most common is the Schulter edging available at all tile places and the big box stores. GL
Q:We live in Phoenix and have a tile roof; most likely concrete tile. One of the tile on the lower level roof has somehow gone missing and I am trying to find one to replace it with. I don‘t think HD and Lowes sell roof tiles and I have tried to look up in yellow pages and am only finding roofing contractors. Where do you think I can just go and buy one tile. I won‘t need an installer as I can do it myself as it is on the lower level roof that I can access with a small ladder. Also tile is the one at the bottom so I won‘t need to climb up on the roof either :) Only logical suggestions are appreciated.
HI, H.D. OR LOEWES MAY HAVE THEM . IF NOT, CHECK OTHER HARDWARE STORES OR ASK A CNTRACTOR OR ROOFER WHO USES THOSE TILES. A BUILDING SUPPLY CO, NOT H.D. OR LOEWES WOULD HAVE THEM FOR SURE.
Q:how to install the tin molding around the edge of the tiles
I wallpapered the ceiling in our mattress room (on my own!) with pretend plaster paintable wallpaper from dwelling house Depot, and now i'm additionally desirous to do a pretend tin ceiling interior the eating room. i've got regarded at Anaglypta paintable wallpaper, yet i'm leaning extra in the direction of the recent vinyl wallpapers (Petite Punched Tin Ceiling result Raised Texture metallic Wallcovering) that are available in distinctive metallic colorations and look lots like the actual element. this could save me a number of of time portray and glazing to get the excellent result. Paintable wallpaper can look monochrome and flat except you place some extra advantageous artwork into it. The vinyl ones i'm speaking approximately are on internet site 2 of the hyperlink under. stable luck!
Q:I have really old honeycomb tile in my bathroom and it would be extremely difficult to remove it. The surface is pretty flat .Would ceramic tile work best , or something like self stick vinyl tiles?
Well there are a few issues to address, first if the existing floor is in good shape, not cracked, no loose tile, level, and solid, that's a good start. next the thing about wax seal on the toilet, don't let that worry you, sometimes people stack the seals, use two seals on on top of the other, in fact extra thick seals are available. If you end up using an additional underlayment and find the flange is too far away , they make extensions that fit into the existing flange. Talk to someone where you looking at tile and ask about a leveling agent. Clean the existing floor with something like TSP (tri-sodium Phosphate) and ask if the leveling agent is OK over porcelain tile, Lots of the tiles used on the octagon floors were porcelain, they will not have a glaze and may appear more of a matte finish unless wet then they are shiny. The only reason to use the leveling agent is if you use vinyl, the pattern underneath will show thru in time. There are some mfg. who make a pure vinyl that is glued down around the perimeter and left alone in the center, so they never copy the pattern below.
We have advantageous location and convenient transportation, clay-rich, the factory is located next to a highway .
