- Q: Our forest green leather sectional sofa is almost 10 years old, and has seen a lot of use, but not abuse. The leather of the seats has a crazed look, as if the green finish has separated from the leather, perhaps. I would like to restore the sofa leather to look fresher and consistently the same color. I have used mink oil, neat's foot oil, and a leather treatment I got at the shoe store, but nothing's changed other than the leather is a little more supple.Is my next logical step to find a green shoe or leather dye? The seat cushions are not removable, and I do not want to use something which will rub off on people's clothes as they sit down.
- The fact that you have used all those products on it especially the oils is the reason it is looking like it is. You should only use water based products to clean and protect your leather. If you use oils you clog up the surface and then the leather cannot absorb moisture and so it dries out and cracks. Also as you have used oils on it any new pigment you try to colour it with will not adhere to the surface and it will therefore fail. Shoe colour will not work but just come off on peoples clothes. If you do want it recoloured consult a leather technician who will be able to do it properly.

- For general cleaning you need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner. With light coloured leather dye transfer from clothing can be a problem although using a good quality leather protector will help inhibit this. DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones.
- Q: They seem very comfortable, but those thin wooden slats and those soft plastic hinges that keep them together don't inspire much trust. Is this a sofa bed only for occasional sleeping and not recommended for other activities(wink)?
- It's okay, not great, though. Very firm, so if you like that, good. I would not suggest it for someone who is overweight or has a bad back -- and certainly not for long-term. IKEA's Sultan mattresses are relatively inexpensive, and pretty good, if you're looking for a cheap bedding solution. I wouldn't look at the BEDDINGE as a long-term, every-night bed, though.

The other issue is that the door is 30-31 inches wide and most furniture heights and depths are bigger than this. I have looked at Ikea's products and I'm considering the Karlstad loveseat or the new Sater sofa, which is a 2.5 seat leather sofa. Is Ikea furniture comfortable and durable. How good is the leather? How well does the furniture age? I don't want it looking shabby after a short while. - It came with the legs off and fit through our apartment door. I don't remember the exact dimensions of the door but we had to take the legs off again before moving. It still looks new, two years later. It is microfiber and we've cleaned chocolate off it (granted, it was only a tiny spot). It was about $50-100 more than the sofas at Ikea but worked for us b/c we lived 3 hours away from Ikea. Craigslist is a good idea. Check the garage sale category too- you could get lucky! Have you posted a wanted ad? I haven't had any luck with local thrift stores. I must not frequent them on the right days. Sometimes Target has decent looking leather like furniture.

- Q: I am looking for a living room set that includes a sofa bed instead of just the regular kind of sofa. I dont need end tables or lamps or anything else. Just a sofa, chair, and ottoman. I can spend between $1000-2000 on the three items. I live in Kansas City and can't seem to find anything like this at the three places I have been to so far (Nebraska Furniture Mart, Home Rooms Furniture, and Rent-A-Center). I do not need financing.
- Try these places for your sofa bed: JCPenny, Target, Sofa Express. You might try JC Penny first . They usually got really good quality sofas. You can also go on the web. There are some really good companies out there . The only drawback is that some of the sofas you have to put together yourself.
