Q:would it be to hard for me to do by myself and is there an adhesive that I put under the tile?
Carpet tiles are easy to install. Some even come with their own adhesive backing. You will need to begin with marking out the center of the room and squaring it to make a + so you can set the firs four tiles down and work outward from the center. Once you have marked your + do a dry run and make sure you don't end up with a large chunk of tile on one wall and a sliver on the other. If that happens, shift the center mark toward the shorter edge. Once you have done the dry run and you are happy with the results you can stick them down. Good luck
Q:Can you put linoleum over tile?
You really can't put a vinyl floor on top of a tile floor properly without doing some prep work which will ruin the tile. There are some products however that you can use that won't harm the tile like laminate, which doesn't require adhesives or floor prep. Or if you're dead set on vinyl, Tarkett has a new product out called FiberFloor which doesn't require adhesive but you may still see the grout lines from the tile come through from underneath. However, if you have permission from your landlord to renovate the floor (I made such an arrangement with my landlord in exchange for rent), then you can get a floor leveler like Ardex and put it over the tile to give yourself a new smooth surface and from there, you can do anything you want. Although I would highly recommend removing the tile.
Q:so i bought tile but not the bull nose end pieces cause they did not have them for that tile. I tiled all the way out to the edge of the counter and now need a way to finish the edge. I have seen wood edges but what is this called and how do you do it? does it butt up against the tile of does it go over? is a wet tile saw supposed to leave ugly, chipped edges? bought a Brand new blade and it did not help.
some cheaper tiles will chip regardless of your wet saw blade. forget the wood surround. it so 70's. i typically rip those types of tops OUT of houses. go to a reputable tile distributor, and purchase a nice glass tile you can apply as the counter surround. you can bring the glass tile up high enough to cover the bad tile edge and grout the gaps in to finish. also, a better tile distributor, not lowes or home depot, may have a bull nose that matches or have a differing idea, but for SURE would have ample choices for glass.
Q:I need tile removed from my shower
Start with a key hole saw, and saw all around the out side of the tile, cutting through the dry wall. After all the plumbing covers are removed, you can then start to use a pry bar and work the tile loose from the studs. This will work for tile over dry wall, over a backer board or even a mud job.. Cover the tub well, wear a dust mask and cover all areas for dust protection. Open a window if possible and set a fan there blowing dust out. Use hammer as little as possible to prevent razor sharp chips from flying and wear all safety gear, including long sleeve shirts, eye and ear protection. And most of all have the elbow grease ready. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:My kitchen is 15x11 and I am buying 18x18 tiles I need to know how many to buy.
18 x 18 = 18 sq in. which = 1.5 sq ft. 170 / 1.5 = 113.3 Buy about 130 of them, you'll have to cut some of them to get them to fit. Wouldn't hurt to buy 150 just in case.
Q:we ‘tiled‘ one wall and it was our original plan to do just that one.but now,a lot of tile has been not used (of what we bought) and the shopkeeper wouldn‘t take it back.what should we do?we can‘t do an entire another wall because we don‘t have that much tile but,it‘s still a lot.pleease help :)
If they happen to be the smaller 1x2 or 2x2 sized tiles, those you can donate to schools and preschools. These are good for counting. Anything bigger and they' re hard to handle for little kids. Larger tiles can be donated to older art classes for the kids to use. If they are colorful tiles you can break them (carefully) up to use as a mosaic pattern for decorating planters, small counter tops etc. I ve even seen wall art done with broken tiles and framed. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar . GL
Q:Only whole tiles are used. How many tiles are neither diagonal tiles nor edge tiles?
If there are 121 tiles and both tiles and floor are square, this means there are 11 by 11 tile used on the floor (square root of 121 is 11) So if we exclude the edges, this means we have 9 by 9 tiles And there are 9 tiles on each diagonal but the one in the center is shared so we have total of 9+9-1=17 tiles on diagonals of this inner tiles with 9 by 9 So for 9 by 9 tiles we have 9x9=81 tiles and excluding 17 tiles on diagonals; the answer is 81-17=64 tiles.
Q:Ok.. what i mean is this. Let‘s say you have hard tile beside the toliet and water damaged occured. Once you press down on the tile you can actually feel the weakness in the tile.. Does this automatically determine bad subflooring or is it possible just bad tile, Can I just killz over the subflooring repaint and lay new tile?
Does the tile wobble? It could mean the adhesive under the tile has deteriorated because of water leaks. Can you get under the floor and look up?
Q:Hot tubs are in ground swimming pools are some times surrounded by border of tiles. The square hot tub has a side of length s feet. The tub is surrounded y a border tiles. Each square tiles measure 1 ft.to find the tile you have to use this: 4(s+1) now how is that expression same to (s+2)^2-s^2
(s+2)^2-s^2 would provide the area of the tile border. It is equivalent to the area of the whole hot tub installation, including tile, minus the area of the tub itself. 4(s+1) would be a length in feet, and is not equivalent to any area. The perimeter of the hot tub is 4s, and the perimeter of the whole installation, including the tile is 4(s+2). 4(s+1), ignoring units, would give the number of tiles required for the border, which if multiplied by the area of one tile (1 ft^2) would give the area of the tile border. (s+2)^2-s^2 = s^2 + 4s + 4 - s^2 = 4s + 4 = = 4(s + 1) sq. ft. is also the area of the tile border. So they are the same, if you account for the difference in units.
Q:In my Bathroom, I want to update the tile. It‘s the small rough octagon shape in white w/black speckles. Grout is also white. I hate it, stays dirty. Thought about sanding it and putting a dye and sealer on it, but I dont know if this can be done. 2nd choice is replacing the grout w/black but I am back with the white tile, does anyone know if the sanding and dyeing it would work? I thought I would try this first, it would be cheap, because I have a sander and I can do it myself.. and thought I could maybe use the dye you use to dye clothes (possible?) and then just a polyurthane to seal. If I do anything else like, remove ceramic tile, this may be costly..Any suggestions?
This tile is hard to get up. It comes on a 12 x 12 paper mesh, so getting one up doesn't help with the next one. The good news is that if you could clean it up, it has a wonderful retro look. You can buy grout colorant and that would be the easiest soloution. (Dark charcoal would be best. Black grout is almost as hard to keep as white.) If you are really tired of looking at it and you can't be convinced to pull it up, you can put a thin layer of quik crete on top of it and start with another floor altogether, IF raising the lever nearly 1/2 won't interfere with the doors or cause people to trip as they come into the bath. The thinnest floor tile is about 1/4 thick, and these will be small tiles again, on the order of what you have. You can get 1 x 1's, 2 x 2's, and 3 x3's squares, in porcelain, in a variety of colors. (They are designed for shower floors.) The next thinnest, yet larger floor tiles are going to be about 3/8 thick. By the time you have quik crete and mastic, you are looking at a 1/2 rise in floor height. If you start going over 12 x 12 sizes, the tiles get thicker still. Whatever tiles you select, make sure they have some texture and are designed for floors. (You don't want to install a hazard, slipping the first time you have wet feet.) You should be able to find how-to books about tile demo and installation at big home stores like Lowe's and Home Depot.
