Q:I was offered a job in the same general posistion for a YOUNG company that has offered me 15.00 more a hour, lead position, training in a differnt brand of the same product I work on and, basicly the freedom to choose my own hours (avg. 40-55 hrs). It all depends on you. If you want to get paid more and have more free time with your family then choose the new job but if you want to have a stable job and not have as much time with your family then stay with your job. If i was you I would go to the new job but thats just me.

How much power do they consume? How big is your diesel generator? A big enough diesel generator might as well be a power plant. A town full of Alaskan natives aren't going to use as much power as say, a town full of Americans.

Within the USA the national electrical code for wall outlets call for using 12 gauge wire and a 20 amp breaker and a 20 amp outlet. They have to be sized together like this. If you are using heavy duty equipment that draws a lot of amps then only have 1 outlet on that circuit. You really should consult a local electrician on this.

Q:I have been trying to research the specifics of utilidor functionality for nearly two weeks and have come up with hardly any information. What I'm wanting to know is, at certain access points of utilidors in artic areas, is there something above ground that powers the tunneling below like possibly a transformer or a generator? I know it seems unfeasible to have either one out in the open to be exposed to the elements but I still want to know. And also even if this isn't the case now, was it so when the tunnel systems were first made?
Utilidors is an acronym for Utility Corridors. This may be a tunnel system that contains all the necessary utilities to support a community, business of some other area needing electric, gas, water, sewer, communications, etc. These are found both above and below ground level depending on environmental concerns, costs, etc. The generators and transformers used to supply various points along the corridor and may be located above or below ground depending on design. A UG designed transformer for instance could be used below ground. A generator needs to be driven by something, gas engine, turbine, diesel engine, etc. these may be located below ground but it will have to have an external exhaust port somewhere. Conversion? They are calculating two different things. The reason something would be measured in work hours instead of mileage is for the fact the equipment does not in fact travel under its own load or it spends more time at a stand still. Work hours tend to be used on a lot of construction equipment and other things that stay stationary for long amounts of time thus creating wear on the unit though it is not moving and adding miles so they use hours to calculate how old the unit is or when it needs to be serviced next. You can never get an actual equality from these two different units as one measures time usage/fuel and one measures distance/fuel if you were calculating to find a run time for example. ***additional*** There would be no equation for MPG that you are looking for if converting from hours. Are you looking for how much fuel is consumed over a length of time? That's the only way to calculate fuel consumption would be over time vs. over a distance as MPG is.

Q:I get conflicting opinions from mechanics about extended shut-down.I am parked for 3 months and driving is not an option. Should I re-start my diesel engine weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or just wait the 3 months and re-start then? If so, should I just restart as normal?I do know when I re-start, I must wait until normal temperture is reached prior to shut down, this could take 20 minutes or longer with the rear mounted engine. The radiator covered from the outside will not warm-up as fast as a front mounted engine. Covering this radiator from the inside is not an option due to a shroud covering the fan.
if you are going to leave it sitting they can sit for more than a year and it will still run fine but the only question is the battery they can not stay fully charged so if not using then disconnect the positive side to the battery and when you want to use it just reconnect it this is the way i do to preserve the battery and for added protection add stabil (fuel stabilizer) to diesel if it is going to sit through the winter Edit : a battery charger is a good idea My parent's RV has a solar panel which keeps the battery fully charged but does not use the RV much 1 to 2 times a year had a stabil in it so far no problems but the generator is problematic cause it runs on gas so I had to start it every month to make sure there is no problems with it(run it for 1/2 hour) gas deteriorates faster than diesel even if it has stabil

There is a maximum steady state temperature, which can be exceeded for short periods, say, 10 to 20 %, given by the engine mfr. The minimum load for an engine which runs at constant speed, i.e., a power generator, is about 50%. Below that it starts to shake dangerously. . .
