The good news is that in aircraft there are mostly multi-spring valve springs to help prevent the resonance problem that can happen with a single spring. (If one goes resonant, the other one doesn't.) I think what that means is that if you have valve spring surges in an aircraft engine, you probably have a broken spring or weak on the assembly. (just a guess but if they don't go resonant at the same time then how would you get the surge?) The affect, not good. - I hope you have a Bach trumpet, because each valve stem is specific to a particular maker and even to specific models. So, if you don't have a Bach trumpet it is very likely that the stem won't fit. If you cannot remove the valve stem with your hands you can try soaking the joint with oil and/or warm water and dishwasher detergent. You should give yourself a couple of days to see if you can loosen them up. Do not use tools--no screwdrivers, no pliers, no vices, no strap wrenches--if you don't know what you're doing you stand to damage the very fragile valve. You may need to take it to a tech--remember you're trying to avoid a $100+ dollar bill for repairing a damaged valve.
- Q: We have a 4 station sprinkler set-up. On the 4 station (last station to run) the Sprinkler headers are struggle to pop up water. From inside the house I hear the valve making a noise, that continues through out the entire run cycle. Any ideas on what causes these 2 problems to occur?
- Sounds like you have a valve that is not opening up fully. Is the noise coming from within the valve box or from the plumbing inside the house? I am assuming that it is coming from the valve box itself. If the valve is not opeing fully at that 4th station, the low volume of water flowing through the opening is causing a humming sound. And, with a low volume of water entering the lateral lines, your last station heads will not popup all the way, or may not popup at all. Check to make sure that you have no soft, wet, mushy areas on the turf in the last station area that would indicate a lateral line breakage or leek. If you do not see this occuring, you more than likely need to change out the valve and replace it with a new one for that particular system... Hope this answers your question. ...Billy Ray
- Q: Beneath my kitchen sink are two shut off valves for the water; one for hot, one for cold. The hot water valve has never successfully stopped all water flow, so we've always resorted to shutting off the main line. Well, now that's not working. We shut off the main water line to the house, all water everywhere is non-functioning except for the hot water pipe beneath my sink. It's now causing the faucet to constantly stream water, so it's something we have to resolve ASAP. I'd like to avoid calling a plumber, but my knowledge in such areas is very limited. Can anyone give me any decent suggestions? For the record, I did take apart the faucet fixture just in case, thoroughly cleaned it, and replaced all of the washers I had access to; but we only just bought the faucet in September, so I can't see a worn washer as being the problem. I also tried to tighten the nut behind the handle on the valve. It didn't effect the dripping.
- The faucet is the problem, not the valve under it. If you just bought the faucet, it shouldn't have any washers in it. Washerless faucets have been the norm for 15 to 20 years now. You need to replace o rings or entire cartridges and the cartridge valve seats. Cartridges are designed to only work one way, but can be installed backwards, so pay close attention to directions that come in the package. To get the proper parts, you need the manufacturer of the faucet (Moen, Peerless or whatever) and you need to know if it's a one handle or two handle faucet and if it's a vanity or kitchen faucet. When getting these parts, you are better of going to a small hardware store or plumbing supply store. They do sell them at Lowe's and Home Depot, but the personalized, professional and knowledgeable customer service at a small hardware or plumbing supply store is invaluable if you don't know exactly what you need. The guy in the plumbing department at Lowe's may or may not know what he is talking about. If you type replacing faucet cartridge and seats into google, you will come up with several videos and how to web sites to show you how to do the job. You should also look at replacing the valve under the sink and the main, so you can shut the water off all of the way. Sometimes on the main if you just open it and close it a couple of times it will break up the lime residue on it and work properly. If it leaks externally, rebuild or replace it.

- that's puzzling to discover 0 clearance even as the lifters are not any more pumped up. it truly is how I actually have continuously lashed small block chevys, even with the actual undeniable actuality that it may get messy. get rid of one million valve hide, start up engine. Tighten the first rocker nut till the push rod stops spinning lower than the rocker. Then decrease backpedal a million/4-a million/2 turn. Repeat for each and each of the others. - i own a repair shop,and it wont give you much more horse power if any,all it does is stop the egr valve from working ,the kit allows you to remove the valve and put a block off plate on it,some say it helps a little i haven't noticed much of a difference in the vehicles that have them on,they just don't recirculate the exhaust gases like they should,which causes any car to fail an emissions test,that's about it,good luck,i hope this help,s.

- Q: why do new motorcycles need to get their valves shimed alot? can someone explain how the whole valve adjusting thing works? why do some engine types require more attention? i have owned thumpers my whole life and never really thought about it. i was looking at this like cheap beater bike (hyosung gt250 v twin) and i read the valves need to be checked like 3 times in a short span, wtf??

- Q: I've been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse, my doctor just told me that i need to setup an appointment with the hospital to look at treatments for heart mitral valve prolapse-to possibly have a heart valve replaced. I am wondering if i should setup an appointment with mayo clinice in minnesota to get another opinion on that? I'm wondering if surgery is an only option available to me, i have been taking beta blockers that have been no help for the past 3-4 months. Thanks.
- hi Sporad I had a mitral valve replacement 4 years ago and I'm alive. Ive been taking beta blockers for 6 years and they work a bit there is one blue tablet that works very well at slowing down hart rates but Dr's don't want to prescribe it till your on your on the way to the knife. When you come out of the op they will be giving you pannadol every 4 hours so be prepared to take lot's of them as no other pain killer performs the job. Start coughing in post op and don't stop you have to cough your lungs back up onto your rib cage. Get out of bed and exercise you lungs the post op hart ward is not the place to get better. Once you have your new valve or your old ones been fixed up you are ready to go. The stitches don't come out your blood flow has been restored its back to being great. The bad days are really bad at the start and then they get less bad unless you have a really bad day. Just remember they don't just give these things to people who don't need them. If you need one your getting a new chance to live. The team of people who put new Mitral Valves in are not just standing around waiting for handouts they are do it once fix it up people. They wont be doing it again for a long time. It costs heaps of money so relax ha ha and make sure your not taking any blood thinning meds just before your op even rub on cream and eye drops check it all with your Doctor. Because they can cause big problems in the surgery. Ask for a baked carbon valve and join me in the carbonvalvers group. I had mine done at the Royal Melbourne,however the MAYO clinic is not a back street job so book in quick. I know you want to time to relax and think things over and there will be plenty of time for that when your walking up and down the wards. ohno not the white tube. All the best Alan
