- Q:why can't i just use solenoid valves hooked to a small bank of relays(using relay logic to control operation) connected to thermostats to control a multi zone boiler system? it would work, but can i do it, why must i use expensive zone valves?
- Its just an educated guess but I would say it would cause system shock if a valve just snapped shut as against closing gently. Assuming the system was shutting down as a zone valve shuts the control switch opens and turns off the plant whilst the valve is still partly open. With a solenoid unless you fit a timer to pre shut off the plant then shut off the solenoid you would probably cause some plant damage. Also by the time you have wired all that lot up you may as well do the job with a zone valve.
- Q:what is engine valve timining ?
- The valve's are in the head or head's and they need to be lined up with your crankshaft in order for the engine to be in time , if they was'nt in time with the crank they would hit at the wrong time and your engine would be junk.
- Q:I was told Wed. that I need to have my aortic valve replaced. I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with this surgery good or bad. I am meeting with the surgeon on the 26th, and am very nervous. Any tips and or suggestions appreciated. I'm a 39 year old female. Thanks in advance
- Hello Lisa, Aortic valve replacement is a cardiac surgery procedure in which a patient's aortic valve is replaced with a different one. The procedure itself is rather simple. Your chest will be opened, you will be placed on bypass, valves exchanged, and closed again. The risk with respect to the procedure is generally cited as being between 1 and 5 percent. My advice to you is to call ahead, and specifically request to meet the physicians who will be performing surgery; including the Senior Surgeon, and Anaesthesiologist. In some cases, hospitals will provide a general doctor for questions; but it is important to meet all of those who will be operating, both for comfort and questions. When meeting with those who will be operating on you; ask them any questions you might have. They are there for you; to brief you on the procedure, ensure you are ready, and respond to any of your concerns. Dr. James Jeah MD
- Q:I just got my water pump replaced on my Peerless boiler. Now my backflow valve is always dripping. I am unsure if I should cap it off or if the dripping will stop over time. It seems that there is some pressure comming from the vent. What should I do??
- They are like any valve that may not have to operate in a while, sediment in the line gets caught in the seat of the back flow preventer when pressure has been lost to one side. The valve can be disassembled and cleaned but is not for the novice unless you have a lot of time. You can cap it for now but get it repaired or replaced because you will have little protection in keeping boiler water from your drinking water if the pressure is lost.
- Q:What are the types of control valves used in the oil industry and how are they applied.
- There are other manual control valves and on/off automatic valves that are used a various places for remote or emergency control. These can be globe, gate, ball, plug or butterfly valves. They can be actuated by pneumatics, hydraulics or electric power.
- Q:I got a new gas stove, but I can't find a shut off valve to take the old one out and put the new one in. There isnt one behind the stove on the line, and i went under the house and followed the gasline and didnt find one down there either. Can any one give me ideas where else to look?
- theres one one by the gas meter
- Q:My 91 GMC Van has an Idle Control Valve that is unplugged, but the van still runs great. Will the valve being unplugged, result in harm to my vehicle?
- Go to your local library, ask if they can get you the *factory* GM wiring diagram and service manual for your specific year/vehicle. They have a troubleshooting section that is usually quite good, with easy to follow flow charts. IAC is tied into the ECM in the way it handles air when you aren't using the gas...decelerating, stopping, when you start the vehicle (and different depending on whether the engine is cold/hot), etc. It will be stuck in one position now. When it starts to cause problems, you'll see them manifest in the conditions I describe above. If there truly no issues with the way it runs, then don't worry about it until you start to have problems. It's not going to destroy the motor without it. Not my cup of tea to know there is a problem, and ignore it, but then again, I'm me. You can rest assured though, if it were unnecessary, and saved GM one penny to not give it to you, they would not have installed it in the first place. :)
- Q:I have a 2001 Chrysler 300 m. About a year ago it cut off on the interstate. The mechanic told me my timing belt broke and i had three burnt valves. The timing belt is already fixed, but I was wondering what parts were needed for the other. also what is the estimated price to fix this?
- Burnt valves or, far more likely, bent valves. Either way, you'll need to basically overhaul the top end - you'll need to replace the bad valves and the top end gasket set along with any machine work that may be necessary. Estimates will vary greatly from facility to facility and also from different areas. To get a valid estimate for your locality, you need to get local estimates.
- Q:My check engine light is on in my 1999 Toyota Camry XLE...I went to autozone and they told me it was my egr valve BUT they did not tell me if it need to be cleaned or replaced. How can I tell if it needs to be cleaned or replaced
- Flag is right. You should of got the code from AutoZone and posted it here. A trouble code can have several meanings and the salesperson just gave you his best interpretation with his limited knowledge. You either had a P0420, P1410, P1411, P1661 or P1662 code. More than likely it's EGR Valve Position sensor or EGR Vacuum Solenoid depending on the code. It also can be the wires or connectors that plug into them or one of the vacuum hoses to them. About a $40-$70 fix if you do it yourself. You can pull the EGR valve off to inspect it but you need to replace the $1 gasket under it when you are done. On old poorly maintained engines they can clog up with carbon deposits or the vacuum diaphragm can rupture. You can apply vacuum to the valve manually and see if it opens while you have it off. If you have good lungs you can do it with a piece of hose. :) If it works then it's not getting vacuum and most likely it's the EGR Vacuum Solenoid that opens and supplies vacuum to it. The EGR Valve Position Sensor tells the Vacuum Solenoid to open via the ECM. See if you can't get the code and post it.
- Q:One of the zone control valves in my heating system does not appear to be working. The thermostat is calling for heat, but no water is flowing. If the other thermostats call for heat, the valves seem to open as the pipes above the valve get hot from the water flowing through. The one that appears busted gets luke warm at best. All 4 valves in the system are fed from the same pipe, and the failed valve is the third in the series of 4 along the pipe (and #4 flows fine) so it doesn't appear to be something in the feeder pipe.Is there anything I can do to try and fix the existing valve, can I replace the valve myself? Would replacing the valve top of the valve (the green/gold portion) possible fix the issue (maybe a problem with the operation of the piston? Is there anything I ahve to do before removing the valve top aside from removing power to the valve?
- The first thing is to see if the zone valve is getting voltage from the thermostat telling it to open. Most are low voltage a/c current. If it is getting power and not opening you probably should change out the entire valve. Some have compression fittings and some have a solder connection. If it is a solder connection make sure the valve is open before you sweat it . You will have to turn off the water supply to the valve and the power and bleed off the pressure. Make sure the solenoid matches the existing voltage. Have fun.
