Q: When I try to start my car the auto theft light comes on and it won‘t start. Why won‘t my car start?: It may help if we know what kind of car that you have. If it is a GM car and the theft light comes on, you have a problem with the anti-theft system. When there is a problem with the theft system it will not allow the car to start. Generally on GM cars, it is usually the ignition lock cylinder or key problem. Most cars now have a computer chip or for GM a resistor chip installed in the key for prevention of theft. A reputable mechanic should be able to help you if they have the proper tools. However, with a theft system problem you may be better off taking it to the dealer. Hope this helps.

Q: My AC went out, and a few days later my emissions light came on. It‘s making a whining chuga-chuga-chuga sound when I crank it up, that gets quieter as I drive. I tried adding freon to fix the AC problem, but it hasn‘t helped. It blows warm, but still works, btw. Could these 2 problems be related? Anyone have any idea what‘s going on with it?: They're probably coincidental. Most AC systems fail because of leaks in seals, not because of mechanical failure, and putting in more freon won't do any good if it just leaks out. New seals are fairly cheap, and readily available at any auto parts store, but the system should have a dye in it that can be seen with an ultraviolet light to pin point the leak. It shouldn't be a big deal to fix. If the emissions light turned on, there's probably a trouble code stored on the computer, which can be read with any code reader. It's very likely to be for a bad oxygen sensor or two. Again, not a big deal to fix.

Q: i dont have an owners manual and i wondered if anyone knew the most likely reason? it came on for about 1 hour and then it shut off.: Have you done maintenance recently or changed oil or had something checked on it? This can happen if the car computer calibration has been reset by the auto shop and now the car is calibrating it's systems again. If not, you may need to take into service to check if you mixture is correct. The light may also come on if it detects something is off in the fuel to air mixture ratio. Anyhow, if the light went off this means there isn't something major going on and it may just be a small thing that is out of place. Your best bet is to drive it around for another couple days or so and see if it comes on again. If it never comes on again then don't worry about it. If it does, take it in for service to have the car diagnosed. It is true, it may also be due to the gas cap not being properly fastened. Good luck!

As for ABS light not for brake pads. For auto. braking system that applies brake to different wheels when conditions apply. Has to be checked separately different ecm controls it. They should have checked at same time.

Q: I just purchased a 2007 BMW 335i and was wondering how this may be done. I know I can turn them on by turning on my parking brakes. Also, I can run daytime running lamp bulbs but those look kind of ugly. I just want to have my coronas turn on when my light switch is turned to automatic. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.: The coronas, normally called angel eyes, ARE the DRLs. They come on whenever the parking lights (not parking brakes) are on. They can also come on independently if you have it set up in either i-Drive, or if you don't have navigation then by using your instrument cluster menu system. It's all in the owners manual. Placing the headlight switch into the auto position will turn on the headlights if it's dark enough or if it's raining, which then turns on the angel eyes since the parking lights come on too. If you have DRL turned on as mentioned above, they would be on all the time and then the headlights would come on once it got dark outside. The parking lights are the orange ones on the very outside of the headlight assembly. If you have DRL enabled in whatever menu system you have, they are on all the time regardless of the headlight switch position. The angel eyes are run by a single bulb for each side of the car, a 35 watt H8 to be specific. The inner headlights (what used to be high beams) are the cornering lights and are operated by a 55 watt H3 bulb. These come on individually when turning if the headlight switch is in auto (and it's dark). They also both come on when backing up if in auto. The outside lights are the high and low beam lights, and should be a D1S bulb assuming you have xenon lights. These lights also pivot when turning if switch is in auto (and it's dark).

Q: I have a 1995 Chevy Blazer, and it has problems starting, idling is very shaky, and I smell burning all the time. I replaced the EGR valve, plugs, wires and caps, but was told the catalytic converter is now the problem. However, if that is true, why does the light only flash while I'm in idle?: if i were you i would have it checked for codes. somewhere you have a misfire. it could be something like the 02 sensor getting ready to go or the throttle position sensor. take it to auto zone and have them test it for you. it will save a lot of guess work.

Q: Right after everything was replaced I noticed the clock, radio, and auto locks weren‘t working. That got fixed. Now I find the auto start isn‘t working. The remote lights up when I press the start button. The switch in the car is on, the car just doesn‘t respond. Ideas?: Look in your owner's manual about what to do when the battery is replaced in the car with regard to the security system.
