Q:my mom has a vacuum cleaner that is electrical and has a filter that our suppose to dump and well shes gone threw tons of vacuum cleaners and just gave up and is keeping this one well it gets clogged up and a lot of areas and her birthday is coming up and i would like to fix it for her so she doesn't have to put up with it any more what do i do?

First of all, unless your mother is very enthusiastic about her vacuuming, don't fix it for her birthday. Take her out to dinner, buy her a nice pair of slippers and her favorite perfume. Not a vacuum. All you can do is clean it out as much as you can. Look for larger objects that may have been sucked in and remove them. If it is clogged with a bunch of hair from someone or some pet, try and stop that hair from reaching the floor. Combing your pet on a regular basis and throwing away the hair not only helps your animal in the summer heat, but also keeps the hair off the floor. Good luck, and find a better gift for your mom than a working vacuum.

Q:With Mother's Day around the corner I thought I'd ask something we all can use.There seems to be this idea floating around that many women don't like to receive things like vacuum cleaners, irons, etc. and would rather recieve something more sentimental in value. Men, on the other hand, love receiving tools and things that they can use to do things with.Most of the women in my family like getting things they can use like a vacuum cleaner or something to cook with, so I have to wonder if that thought is really true. So women, if you received a vacuum cleaner or some similar gift, would you be offended by it? If you would be, why? Is it implying that you are the homemaker because you're a woman?

It depends. I think this idea came from husbands giving wives vaccum cleaners for gifts, instead of something for that person's genuinely personal use (and enjoyment). Also, if you both vacuum half the time, then a vacuum isn't a present for the other person, but for you both. There are some holidays that are supposed to be more personal and romantic -- so, unless you KNOW it's all she wants, not brooms for Valentine's Day, if you follow me. Mostly, it depends knowing the recipient -- which is a lot of what gifts are supposed to be about; did you give thought to what THIS person would want; do you actually KNOW this person, or are you clueless. (Thus, coming from a hubby, when he should know better, is part of the problem.)

yeah until it cloggs up on you lol... ive gone through 5 vacuums in the last two years... i recommend shark brand, so far its lasted a year... but nothing helps more then brushi g the cat, if your cat doesnt like to be brushed you can make a cat brushing station for your cat to brush its self... all you need are two baby bottle cleaners from a 1$store and a pice of wood for the base, make sure its heavy enough not to fall over, you can look it up in detail on youtube

Q:I am lokoing for some suggestions on the best vacuums for a house with a dog that sheds CONSTANTLY. The fur keeps clogging my upright, so I think I am going to go with a canister vac, however, I do not want to spend a lot of money. Any thoughts.

I have a Eureka upright, Boss bagless upright (with hose attachments). I have 4 kids and an indoor allergy bearing, super shedding dog. That vacuum has been a really good vacuum and when it dies I will get another Eureka. Walmart has Eureka, and I am sure I paid under $100 for mine. I will say I have a Bissell carpet cleaner that I also like. One brand I have never had good luck with is Dirt Devil.

Q:Does anyone know of a quiet vacuum? I would like to vacuum the house without my little man crying.

Hoover LINX cordless stick vac AKA the cheerio getter. Its pretty quiet, gets the job done and my little man loves to try to push it around.

Q:Should I spend a lot and expect it to last for years, or should I spend a little and expect to replace it next year. What brand and model should I buy. Please help!

I prefer the canister cleaners. It's best all-around. You can use it for your car, too. You can't find them everywhere anymore. We have stairs in our house. Canisters are more flexible and they are not as heavy as the carpet vacuum cleaner (we have a Hoover also). We buy ours from Sears Roebuck. We pick the best one we can afford and the last one we replaced lasted us almost 20 yrs. of regular usage and then we gave it away to my husband's boss and bought a new one because I noticed that although it still worked, it had lost some suction strength. We also have a small shop vac. which I like because I needed it to pick up some rubble when work was done in our home and we also can use it to sweep our car and it's Very light. It's not a good carpet sweeper, though. No vibrating brush and we had to get an adapter to fit a smaller hose and extension tubes, plus the nozzle I didn't have already in order to sweep floor..

Q:Who vacuums in the dark??

I think because when you vacuum under a table, sofa, chair, etc, it's sorta dark. That's all i can think of. :)

Q:What is the best lightweight vacuum cleaner for use in a home with pets? I am willing to spend up to $300.

Dyson has a model that is great for pet hair, I think it says something about pets in the model name. About any vacuum will work well if you change the bag frequently, and vacuum really often--like daily. Good Luck!
