- your problem is going from one surface to another. a carpet should always be vacumned with a beater bar attachment, this helps pull the dust up from the pad. a 12 amp motor is recommended. however beater bars do not work effectively on wood or tile surfaces as they tend to just spread the dust. the most effective vacumn on the market today is the DYSON. it is also one of the priciest. a reconditioned one can be bought at FRYS for 200.00 Avoid the SHARK (motor doesn't last). a cheap,bagless,hepa filtered vacumn can be had for around 60.00

- Nope, never heard of it. Best way to buy a high-end vacuum cleaner is to go to a sales and service vacuum store and buy the high-end models a few years old that people changed their minds about. It's like buying a used luxury car, they depreciate much faster than cheaper cars. The service guys can tell you which ones are really worth the bucks.
- Q: You can't vacuum if there's no power, so why would you need the light? You can't get into the corners of the carpet anyhow, so why taunt you by showing you the extra dust?

- I have a Bissell bagless. I got it from Walmart for under $100. It's a good vacuum, and I have pet fur around the house. The Bissell bagless doesn't blink an eye at my cat fur. I am thinking about purchasing a dirt devil to assist me with the stairs. The stairs drive me nuts.

- Unfortunately, you can't go by the advertised amps/volts/or watts. That only refers to the amount of power CONSUMED by the appliance. A motor that draws a lot of amps may simply be inefficient in its use of power. Better off to make sure the machine is warranteed to be returnable in case you get it home and don't like the way it performs. Don't buy a Kirby; way over-rated and not worth the high price!
- Q: This questions is about a nephew. He is 5. I have 3 children ages 5,3 and 18 mo and the two older ones have never seemed to know so much about 1 toipic and talk so much about it. Is this typical or abit on the autistic specrum of my nephew. He's been like this about vacums since he was about 4.
- I don't think it's abnormal... If his area of expertise were dinosaurs, I doubt you'd even be asking the question. But the bottom line is that kids find topics that they're interested in and absorb quite a bit! They really delve in and become little experts on their topic. I've met dinosaur kids, farm equipment kids, Nascar driver kids, railroad kids... And they're all extremely knowledgable in their field. Vaccuum cleaners and stoves are not a big deal. Take him out when you want to buy a washing machine. :)

- Most bagless vacuum cleaners have HEPA filters. You should be able to just go to your local target/wallmart/sears and pick one out. Another thing you can do to help is buy an air purifier for your roommate's bedroom. Most styles are basically a fan that pulls air through a HEPA filter. It would do a lot of good because allergy symptoms are usually worst in the morning right after someone wakes up since the person has been laying down sleeping which makes them prone to congestion.
