- Q: I'm doing research on trains and Google isn't helping, it's giving me everything but what I need so maybe I'm not posing/wording the question properly or something but a friend told me about this so hopefully I can find the answer.
- I believe it is 6 gallons per mile. I can tell you that a tractor trailer gets 4-8 miles per gallon of diesel.
- Q: i think having a back up generator at my home would be useful in case of winter power disruptions however and although the new generation generators are quiet enough to stand next to where would I stand with electricity suppliers ?
- We had a day long power failure last summer. The one home that had a back up generator had TV and frig running when all else using candles and batteries. They were shunned by the rest of the community because they were not suffering enough. The lack of noise would be welcome a advance. Lawyers for the power company would fight tooth and nail to prevent any ordinary citizen from getting a discount. Do you have the money to be a test case? The smell might be like living in an old time downtown enclosed bus station.
- Q: Hello, what I'm really trying to understand is how do large generators that power prisons, hospitals and various government buildings work? I have a basic understanding of regular house generators and their working process. What I want to know is how such a generator can acquire power in a case of a complete electric blackout, is there a back up supply line? another power source? Surely to supply a large building such as a prison or a hospital one would need a large reserve of power. So the question is where does that power come from? Or are they completely autonomous? Also are these generators commonly used nowadays and what is the difference between them and the reserve power system if any. I would greatly appreciate any answers that could explain the above. Thanks.
- You are asking about backup generators? They have a gasoline or diesel engine driving the generator.
- Q: I am building a food van with a generator housed in the rear and would like to feed the fuel from the main tank fitted to the vehiclewho would I contact for this information?
- its depend upon the sector u going to invest
- Q: I'm a student majoring in Architecture one of my class, Building Utilities, needs me to survey a high rise building. In my team, we divided the parts bc there are so many and one of my job is to electricity. Can someone explain to me the meaning of phase, R.P.M, power factor, and (especially) their respective units/numbers from this picture
- 'Phase' has no units: it is merely a number, in this case 3. It is the number of different live supplies coming out of the generator. On the blue label in your picture, to the right of the word PHASE there is a small clear panel. The 3 followed by a greek letter 'phi' is the number of phases. Then there is '4 W'. This tells you that the generator is wired in 'star' layout with a total of four wires. Three carry the live supplies and one is a neutral wire. Your building will have a lot of wall outlets and some heavy loads; for example, the motors for the elevators. The wall outlets are single phase, connected to only one of the phases from the generator. Heavy loads are often connected to all three phases. 'R.P.M'. is revolutions per minute , which means 'how many times the rotating part of the generator rotates in one minute'. 'Power factor' again has no units. An explanation of what it is? I'll come back to that later (or someone else can) .
- Q: How to shut off the diesel generator
- diesel generator set off: the control switch to stop (STOP) position or press the red emergency stop button to stop the operation of the generator
- Q: Having lots of diesel fuel to make electricity (200-800KW)is it better to use a diesel generator or a steam turbine?(Remember : the only way to produce steam is burning diesel)Does anybody know how many KWh can make per 1000gal?
- Neither. At these sizes, it's most efficient to use a gas turbine, in which the expanding gas of the burning fuel turns the turbine directly, rather than going through the lossy process of boiling water. A large gas turbine can be as much as 57% efficient in electricity production, which is far higher than a diesel engine. A gallon of diesel fuel contains about 130,000 BTU, or 137 megajoules (MJ). At a 55% conversion rate, that would mean 75.35 MJ of electricity. There are 3.6 MJ in a KWh, so that's 20.9 KWh per gallon of diesel, or 20,930 KWh for 1000 gallons.
- Q: I planned that the factory be fully mechanised. Public power supply is very poor. I wanted to purchase diesel generators but i have been advised by a friend that solar generators are more cost effective. Is solar a good source of energy to power such a factory?
- Yes, it can be fully solar. Very power comsuming factories are autonomous. If you dont find how to, if you want e-mail me and i will put you in touch with some companies. For your info, some companies not only are autonomous, they resell power while they dont use it.
- Q: 1. are backup generators constantly running, so when the lights go out to the people inside it seems like they have not?2. what do they run off?
- They are not normally running. If power fails there will be some automatic emergency lighting powered by batteries which should allow the backup generators plenty of time to get started. They are often diesel powered. You can hope that they are reasonably maintained and tested from time-to-time.
