Q:My 2000 Saturn SL2 ABS and Brake light come on when I hit about 25 mph and before the abs light comes on when I hit the brakes the ABS engage like I‘m on ice. I changed both ABS sensors and checked the fuse, could it be the brake master cylinder? (the brake pedal is kind of spongy) I went to Auto Zone and they said their scanner only does check engine lights.

I had the same problem with my Ford F150 truck, ABS light came on and brakes would pump like on ice, but was on dry pavement . Problem was the ABS computer chip needed to be reprogramed, COST $380.00 I told them to disconect ABS chip,the brakes work like the old days. you have to pump on ice but I saved 380.00

Q:hi, i drive a 1999 ford ranger and for some reason my brakes have been really crappy lately. Starting at about the same time the snow came in late december my brakes started to feel gritty and made a noise with it. I thought because no lights were on in my truck it was just the snow but today when i was backing up my breaks felt like they went away all together. when it stopped i turned the truck of then on again and the breaks were back but the abs and break lights came on. i don‘t want to put myself in a bad situation so what could it be? thank you in advance.

I would suggest first checking the brake fluid level. The reason was a safety Ford has built into the system if the brake light was on also then this means the brake fluid level is low, and this in turn will also illuminate the ABS light and shut down the ABS system to prevent air from entering the ABS components and compromise the operation. If it take care of the problem, meaning both lights (ABS and Service brake) are off then have the service brake check out because the low fluid level mean brake pads and shoes worn out If the Service brake light is out and the ABS light still lit. Then go to Auto Zone, Advance Auto part store to have the code read for the ABS and edit your question and add the retrieved code for the ABS. A lot of the Ford truck (Including Ranger) in the same era has the same code C1230 or C1237 and it's very common code(s); the cause was the rear wheel speed sensor (C1237) located on the top of the rear end is defected or its wire was broken/ rubs through by the rear end housing (C1230). So go to your Auto part store and have the code(s) retrieve for the ABS and update the information if different code pulled other than C1230 or C1237 (C stands for: Chassis system code/ Defect) HTH

Q:My friend just bought a used 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. He has already spend a small fortune fixing the car up and now the engine light is constantly on. He was told that is has something to do with the PCM. Also, when he first bought it, the digital light on the winshield was working and now that is out too. Is there something He can do to fix this PCM and have the engine light stop coming on??

Take the car to Advance Auto Parts or Autozone. They have the code scanner there that you simply plug in and it reads the codes. The scanner will tell you the code and what the fault is. The service engine light is primarily for the emission control system. If it is not a major problem you can use the scanner to delete the code and the light will go off. My Pontiac does that from time to time giving an oxygen sensor fault- so I go to Advance and turn it off. Since they have added more ethanol to gasoline that causes oxygen sensors to go out more frequently- at least that is what I have heard. I'm sure if your friend doesn't know how the use the code scanner one of the store workers will gladly show him how to use it.

Your camera has 3 focus modes M manual, C continuous and S single. Set it to S and that should solve the problem but when you change focus points you will have to push shutter button halfway again, you also might not have enough light for your camera to see try it on a brighter subject to find out

If Having lights on during the daytime helps to avoid even one accident, SAVE one life, because the car was more visible then I am all for them. The Fact is that they DO not drain the life from a battery as they only are on after the car is running and the Alt is actually running the entire Electrical makes you statement moot.

Q:2006 G35 Sedan.Service Engine Soon (check engine light) came on. Took it to local auto parts store, ran a free diagnostic. Gave me code P0420 which reads --- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) No other codes are with it. Just that. Randomly happened as I was driving home from work.So whats the difference between Bank 1 and Bank 2? Since my issue is only bank 1. Passenger side?? Does that help me find out what is causing this code of P0420 that I have??Honestly I haven‘t had any bad issues or symptoms. Gas mileage is still fine, no problems idling, going uphill, flooring it, or anything. Car doesn‘t smoke, any still runs like new. Just with this code on. I did notice that one day, it came on. went to bed and started it in the morning and it was off. But then came on again in a few days. Been on ever since. What does this code tell me? O2 sensors even though it doesn‘t throw a code that says o2 sensor or sensors is bad? The cat? Exhaust leaks? Thanks for the help!

u need all new cats. 9 out of 10 p0420's need new catalytic converters. it is possible u have a bad pcm, bad o2's, exhaust leak, or bad wiring, but unlikely. it will not cause driveability problems because cat efficiency happens after your engine and in your exhaust. you cat is supposed to burn the hydrocarbons (fuel) that your engine did not burn completly. your car has a precat and postcat o2. your pcm watches for a change in oxygen content b4 (pre) and after (post) exhaust gas leaves the cat. if there is no change or not enough change, it assumes the catalyst is no longer burning excess fuel and is therefore polluting. if u care about the air u and everyone else breaths, buy new cats. ask for old parts back. sell old cats at recycler. they contain small amounts of precious metal. btw if u live in the usa and your car is less than 8yrs old and has less than 80,000mi the dealer should fix it for free. its a law. google it.
