- Q: What material are the Samson & Goliath cranes in Belfast made from?
- They are cranes look at the YouTube video and read up on cranes that's what material they are made of.
- Q: I've been wondering about the infamous Crane Stance that many people associate with Martial Arts. Is the Crane Stance a technique that can be used in a fight and strike an opponent effectively without overly exposing yourself to strikes by your opponent? If it is, what are some techniques that can be used out of a Crane Stance?
- As always Sensei is on the top. And I agree with him about stslavik. Nice answer - brief and to the point and esy to understand for a beginner or lower/lower-intermediate level student (who would be asking this type of question). Some more easy/beginner answers to consider: A) Some other possible applications would be a knee (like in Saifa kata), using the shin/leg for blocking, etc. B) Learning to generate snap in a kick without using the body behind it. Many patterns break down techniques into seperate parts to help learn specific principles. Later you can combine or alter those specific sections to match the situation. There are a lot of reasons for stances and techniques that appear in traditional martial arts. It takes a lot of study and very good teachers (or sempai..haha) for the practitioner to discover those meanings. I gave you some easier answers to help you discover these meanings on your own. That will help you more in the long run... Good luck!

- Q: Why does the correspondant keep repeating If i am going to be drowned? IF I am going to be drowned -- if I am going to be drowned -- if I am goi
- I like Persipho's answer. But I have to disagree on one point. Nature is not hostile. It's indifferent. If you try to swim the English Channel and are able to go 21.5 miles instead of 22 miles you will drown. Nature doesn't care if you go all that distance just to drown, This is the irony. It doesn't matter if you go 10, 15 or 21.5 miles. If you get a cramp you will probably drown. Nature doesn't care. That's what the correspondant means. In the story a bird watches them and is completely indifferent. The indifference of nature is part of the School of Naturalism that Stephen Crane, Jack London and others belonged to.
- Q: Similarities in theme with Emily Dickinson and Stephen Crane?
- Mortality would be the big one
- Q: Any difference?
- The crane part can be identical, but the vehicle part differs: in the former case it's a road-going (even multi-axle) truck, in the latter case it's an off-road vehicle with oversize all-terrain tires and appropriate traction and transmission capabilities. In either case, the vehicle must be stabilized on adjustable hydraulic struts before hoisting.
- Q: This poor little guy has been out on my balcony where I smoke my cigarettes for two days now. One wing is badly mangled and he can't fly away, I thought to just let him work it out yesterday in hopes of him healing on his own somewhere, but today he was climbing on my leg as if asking for help and I feel horrible for him now...he's suffering, he hasn't gone far in at least 24 hours I feel I should feed him and give him water until he heals...what do crane flies even eat?? Any advise aside of killing him and putting him out of his misery would be great!!
- Well, it looks like they only have a lifespan of a 2 weeks at the most, so I'd just make him comfortable and let nature do its thing. According to Wikipedia, adult crane flies don't really eat--they just hang out and mate... If you really want, I suppose you could put some sugar water in a bottle cap or something for him.
- Q: are crane flies the most venomous insect in the world,or is this just an urban myth?
- This one is definitely a myth, one that has been applied to both crane flies and the arachnids known as daddy longlegs (more properly known as Opilionids, or harvestmen). A simple fact of their biology can put this to bed: the adults of many species of crane fly don't even have mouth parts--the adult form is used soley for reproduction, with no time for food acquisition. Essentially, they mate and die. Production of a highly toxic venom is extremely energetically costly, and when they have no ability to inject it into anything (not even for self defense), it makes no sense for a life strategy. Common sense and simple observation will also tell you that this isn't true. There are stories all the time telling of people who have died from killer bees, or snake bites, or black widows, but when's the last time you saw a news bit on a crane fly fatality? I mean, news outlets, not to mention Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, *live* on stuff like this--yet I've yet to see a special entitled Crane Flies: Nature's Perfect Assassin. ;)
