An O-ring that is inserted in the fitting ends of the pipe ensures a leak-proof connection. Press fitting system is the trend of pipeline industry. It is widely used in cold and hot water supply, heating supply, fire protection, medicinal gas, industrial petroleum pipeline system etc.

- Some people will answer with pex some with CPVC, I prefer CPVC, but then that's why they make Fords and Chevy's. No you're not over your head, but it will take longer than a weekend to do this right. Sharkbite fittings are great solutions but they maynot be the answer to you're circumstance. Remember, that CPVC is connected with glue (oaty makes a one-step I still prefer using primer before the glue, once again that's just me). It's easy to figure out how much pipeing you need, just measuer what you got and remember that in the box stores most CPVC sticks are 10 feet long. The best way to get rid of the old galvy is to cut it with a sawsall, as it makes short work of it and the pipe is probably so rusted you'll not want to try to undo it with a pipe wrence but, if you do expect it to break. Once you got the galvy out of the way, the rest is easy, cut and glue DK

- This usually occurs when the water chemistry is on the acidic side (low pH). It eats out the softer areas of the steel pipe and eventually makes a pinhole leak that will grow bigger in time. The hole is actually larger inside the pipe than the outside. kind of like a volcano shape. If it is one or two holes they can be patched by covering the hole with a piece of rubbery material held in place with a hose clamp. When the holes get to be too many or too large, then it is time to replace the pipe. This is odd that it is doing it to galvanized pipe. Either the pipe was poor quality to begin with or your water is really bad. If the situation is caused by bad water chemistry, then it will occur again if you use copper pipes as a replacement. The best way to go is to either use PVC if allowed by code in your area, or get out the check book and get 316 stainless steel pipes and fittings.

- make the threads and drill the stainless the size as needed to accept the copper pipe the fittings are not necessary if you do that you may have to braze the copper elbow to mate an elbow or some type of fitting to accommodate the column .. instead of buying all that brazing equipment find a welder that will do those short jobs take you fittings to the welder [[ it costs less for you to go to his shop ]] . enjoy the spirits [[ you will have to give it away as the sale of the moon-shine is against the laws and ATF will not like you .

- If you have polybutylene pipe it is recommended that you change the pipe to either copper or PVC. PB has a history of failures which can cause major water damage. PB pipe has been the subject of many class action law suits and your insurance may not cover water damage caused by PB pipe failure.

- If you are referring to electrical conduit, no, you should not use it for anything other than wiring. There are several types of piping that you can use, but for ease of maintenance, I'd stick to whatever your local builders supply store carries fittings for.
