Q: I have my friends PC at my house to change a few components but apparently the PC doesn't work properly. I insert the power connectors ( 20 and 4 pin connectors ) into the motherboard, plug the power cable into the PSU and when i turn the power button on the PSU the computer will start but do nothing. It never worked like that before, i always used the power button from the computer to turn it off and on. And this happened just after i changed a PSU. Now the old Power Supply doesn't work either. Is there any way to stop the computer from turning itself on ?: There are two possible problems 1. there is a short on the motherboard, specifically, the power on circuit. It is acting like the power button is held in. May have a faulty board. 2. The cmos has reset, and the default setting for activity on power failure is full on. Meaning, if power is lost to the computer (even if it is off), it will power on. A simple change in the bios would fix this In all likely hood, #2 is your problem

Q: Recently moved from the UK, so I need power cables for the following:- External Hard Drive- Skype Phone Base Station- etcThese appliances come with a power cord from the socket to a small circular head that plugs into the said appliance.I've looked in Walmart, and all they have is a mutihead adaptor for 18 bucks, when I really need just a power cord with the wall socket and the right size circular head.Any advice is appreciated!: Go to stores like Best Buy, Radio Shack, or Fry's. Those devices use power supplies, not just cords. If it used just a cord, it would likely have an IEC two or 3 pin inlet, where you likely can easily get a replacement standard US plug cord. The small circular plug is coaxial, and exclusively used for low voltage (below 50 volts). The HDD at least may use a universal supply (all mine do), in which case a plug adapter will work. Check the Skype power supply, it might be similar.

Q: I have a hp laptop from south asia. The adapter connects with the laptop and the power cable. The power cable has a 3 round pin plug which says 6A 240V~. On the hp adapter for the input it says: 100-240V~ 1.6A 5-60Hz. It also says Connect Only to Grounded outlets.Now I am in canada. All i know is that here they have 120 V in normal power plugs. Also they have 1 round and 2 rectangular pins to plug in the outlet.I bought this adapter which basically connects the 3 round pin plug into the adapter and the adapter has 3 canadian pins. The thing is that it says 250V 10A on the adapter. So I am not sure if it will hurt my laptop if I use it. I am a bit confused because Canada has 120V and the adapter accepts 250V. The HP adapter has a range from 100-240V. Will this be ok to use since the HP adapter will just convert the 120V into the proper output for the laptop or do I need one the expensice Voltage converters for the laptop?: It is fine, your power cable has a power rating of 6A @ 240V and your hp adapter can handle an input of 100-240V~ 1.6A 50-60Hz right? Then, you bought an adapter which has 10A 250V capacity and it is no problem handling your cable and hp adapter which has a lower power requirement. And also, the most important, in your area, the supply is 120V and your hp can handle from 100-240V and your adapter up to 250V, so there is nothing to worry about, as long as the supply voltage is lower than of the required of your hp, mind it if your supply voltage is 240V and your hp says it handles 120V for it will burn your adapter..............

Q: I bought a grand am and i was going to install a amp. in the trunk there are servil wires comming out of the side but idk which is with what does the power cable look like? the rc cables remote ect? all the ends are just cut off: Check the vigour cord with a scan gentle (on the amp). If it's well, determine the blue cord from the deck to the amp (transfer) whether it is well, hook the scan gentle to the vigour cord and determine the bottom. Good good fortune

Q: I am upgrading a two-year-old higher end HP tower to include a mirrored hard drive. I did a little vacuuming and inspection and plan to order the exact model drive which is in there now. I noticed that the SATA cables used include a simple plastic latching mechanism in the connector. I checked CDW and found quot;latchingcables made by Startech which I assume should work (but the latching part is made of stamped metal). My biggest question is the power connector. The factory installed molex-to-SATA adapter also has this latch mechanism (on the black hard drive side), but I cannot find a cable anywhere mentioning a latch on the power connector.
