Q: The back window on my convertible got a hole put in it last winter, since then I've just been using tape to keep it together. I have a new plastic window complete with trim that will make a suitable replacement, I just need to know what kind of adhesive and how to apply it so that it stays put when the top is up and folds accordingly when the top goes down. I'd like to remove the old back window as well.: Does it look to be sewn in?

Q: A lot of the mail I get has a plastic window where the recipient's address is shown underneath. Up to this point, I have been tearing out the plastic and throwing just the paper part of the envelope in the recycle. Is that neccessary? To what extent do recycling plants filter what's coming in?: The tons of paper that goes through recycling centers would have a very small percentage of plastic from the average thoughtful recycler. If you ask the recycling center, they may generally say not to include any plastic material, including window envelopes. My center told me as much. However, they do not refuse paper because of window envelopes. Business recyclers do not sort their paper recycling materials and recycling is still encouraged. Some window envelopes are already recycled and appropriate for recycling. Look for the recycling symbol. If you are really concerned you may follow the step that someone I know uses - she cuts out all the plastic windows with a scissor and then recycles only the white paper. Q: Do I have to replace the entire convertible or can the plastic be replaced?: you can have the plastic replaced - i had it happen to me, it faded to yellow and was just plain ugly. either take it to the benz store and have them take care of it - or go to a good upholstery shop and have them replace it. so, yes it is very easily done.

Q: What exactly is this clear plastic window called and can I replace it? If so, where would I find the part? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Do I need to replace the entire cluster panel?: It is called the instrument cluster Bezel Lens. Get a bad instrument cluster out of a salvage yard with a good lens and figure out how to remove the lens without breaking the cluster. I did this for a rare BMW once, and I will tell you what I learned from the experience: After I unscrewed the back of the cluster, i had to go around the plastic housing sealed joint with a utility knife and carefully cut the two halves away from each other while running a screwdriver along to act as a wedge to apply a parting force. When I managed to to that, I found the lens was just sandwiched in between the two, so I was able to cut the new lens piece into the proper size and shape to match the old one. The new on came from another instrument cluster which had a larger lens, but the same thickness and same plexiglass material. I fitted it into place, and glued the two halves back together with super glue, and re-installed the back panel, and it was good to go.

Q: Im looking at buying this jeep, The problem is it has those plastic zip down windows, instead of glass roll ups.can I buy glass windows for it? or would I actually have to buy completely new doors with roll up windows.cuz its gonna b a serious pain n the *** to unzip the windows!: If you want glass in the doors, you will have to buy the full doors. You will also need the surronds for full doors and a soft top. Stick with the half doors. Its not a big problem. The alternative is expensive to switch out. Check around your local junk yard for the swap, and you will save money.

Q: is the space between the glass and the window seal important: I've lived in a few rentals where we had to weatherstrip the windows, and at no time did it ever occur to me that the landlord should pay for it. Weatherstripping is just part of living life in a colder climate. You don't need to pay outrageous amounts for expensive weatherstripping products. If the gap is an inch or two at the top of your window, just roll up some old towels or cleaning rags to fit into the gap. They'll stop the wind just as well as some plastic product you have to pay for at the hardware store, and your curtains or blinds will cover them anyway, so you don't have to care if it doesn't look too good. If the windows have an actual structural problem, though, so that they really can't be closed tightly enough to lock, you might try to convince the landlord to have repairs done based on the fact that they're a security hazard. (Yeah, I know, nobody's likely to break in to an attic, but you can at least try.)

Q: In my bedroom I have an arc-shaped window over the regular window. There are plastic grids between the panes of glass for decoration. One of them fell to it's side. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the window? You or whoever applies it needs an extension ladder if it's above 16 ft. Taller ladders or what you need can be rented for a whole or half day at any rental store. Be very careful, falling from above 6 ft can be very traumatic and even deadly. If your not comfortable with heights you should seek out a handyman or a window tinting company and get a quote. If your injured, whatever they charge will appear cheep. Remember if you pay to have it done you won't have to rent a latter or buy the film. Whatever your charged to rent a latter and buy the film may be a good part of a tinting job by someone who does that and has what you want. Factor that in before you do it yourself. Good luck. SS

If not, try Plexus. It is what motorcycle riders used to clean their visors and windshields. Lots of car detailers use it to clean plastic windows on convertibles and Jeeps. Find it at any motorcycle dealer. Use with a clean microfiber cloth.
