Q:Glazed Ceramic Tile - PROS/CONS?

Q:Can I lay ceramic tile over a vinyl floor?
My parents and I recently renovated the basement in our apartment building and my father wanted to put tiles down. He does alot of home renovation work and said the best thing would be to take off the vinyl flooring... due to the cement you put under the tiles it sticks better to wood. It was my job to take the vinyl flooring off and there weren't any bumps, it was well done., I literally had to chizle at one point because I couldn't get it started and there were 3 layers of vinyl flooring!... it came off well once I got it started though.... it looks very nice now... I suggest you take it off..
Q:Screws in Ceramic tile?
You have to drill holes, using a masonry bit, thru the tile, and use an anchor of some sort. Best would be some sort of toggle bolt thru the drywall itself. A plastic expansion anchor would suffice. Any force on the tile itself, may cause eventual breakage.
Q:Bathroom needs floor tile.?
Yes you ll have to pull the stool up and depending on what you sub flooring is now will depend how you treat the stool and wax ring and flange later. There isn t a stock answer with the info you gave. Some times the flange is raised enough to accommodate raising the floor with tile and a 1/2 cement board( if needed). If the flooring is on a slab them the tile will go right up to the flange and stool set atop with a normal or extra thick ring. In 20+ years I ve never had a tile crack under a stool. As long as there is the correct amount of thin set under the tile and any subflooring you add is properly put down,it ll be fine. Stools don t have to be tight tight bolted down just firmly snugged up . Almost ( almost ) any tile will work in a bathroom situation , but get a slip resistant type, one with at least a class III rating is my recommendation Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. Q:Wood or Tile Floors for Kitchen?
Ceramic tile. It will take the traffic better, wood is prone to water damage Tile cleans much easier than wood and will take moppings where wood you should never mop( water can damage it). Grout, when you seal it,cleans easy. Wood looks great other places and add value to a house ( ceramic does to) but not in a high traffic water prone area such as the kitchen. Much more maintenance than ceramic. Wood will cost a bit less butt ceramic will installed properly will last a life time with out having to be refinished.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:Do I want to use the concavity of a marble tiles to make a TV backdrop, right? Help designers,
This is not very good to do, consider the next hand-painted, the effect is good, I also Nanning,
Q:Can I lay linoleum over asbestos tile in the basement?
yes, but, if theres already some of the old tile coming up, may be a goo idea to take all of it up. if it is only a couple of pieces just pull them and fill in with leveling compound
Q:ugly green kitchen tile!!?
really tight budget. HUM close your eyes while in your kitchen if your cabinets are stained then you could lighten them they do sell stuff to do this but it is time consuming.if paint paint over them paint the walls a complementary color to the tile then save up your money
Q:where can i get cheap tile?
Home Depot or Lowes..but remember if you pay 69 a sqaure foot,,,,which is cheap........it is seconds, some will be uneven, but it is a good price
