- Q: I hava a 12x12 ceramic tile that we want to hang on the wall (not permanently). The tile has no hooks or anything in it. What‘s the best way to hang it?

- Q: I am going to lay bathroom floor tiles in my bathroom but I have some questions before I start. 1. Can I lay the new tiles over the existing floor, which is vinyl flooring? Or do I have to remove that first? 2. If I have to remove the vinyl flooring do I have to add cement backer board? Or can I lay the tile right over whatever is under the vinyl flooring? 3. I have trim along that floor that I will be re-attaching, do I lay the tile right up to the wall or do I put a space in between the wall and the edge tile? Do I then grout into that space between the wall and the edge tile?
- you actually *can* install ceramic tile over vinyl flooring, if the vinyl is in good shape and not coming up or bubbling. you would need to use a mutliflex thinset instead of a standard thinset for the ceramic tiles to stick. now this only works if the vinyl is over concrete. if it's over wood, then an underlayment is needed. if the vinyl is in poor shape, pull it up. if in doubt as to it's quality, pull it up. 1/4 or 1/2 hardibacker or durarock are your options for your underlayment. use a multiflex thinset to adhere to the vinyl or wood subfloor and screw the board down every 6 inches. if your floor is a concrete slab don't bother with the underlayment; just tile directly over the concrete. leave a slight gap from your tile to your wall, then install your base and/or shoe molding. grouting the space between the tile and wall would be a waste of time and grout. don't bother; the base will cover it. i agree with the 1/8 grout joint. a much better look to it than a larger joint. keep in mind the thinset rules: a tile up to 12 requires a 3/8 notch of thinset, a tile 16 to 18 needs a 1/2 notch, and anything over 18 requires a 3/4 notch. this guarantees that there will be no thinset adhesian failures. good luck!
- Q: Okay the apartment i live in was built in the 60‘s and unfortunately everything is completely out of date. Trying to get the maintnence people out is more of a hastle than help. So im trying to do this myself. The stuff inbetween the tiles no matter how hard i scrub with scrubbing bubbles and kaboom and everything doesnt come clean this yuckiness is all over lining the tub and all tiles. Does anyone have any ideas on how i can fix this what to use or if i need to regrout how do i do this ? thanks
- go to your local hardware store and ask for a grout removing tool. This tool will scrape out the old grout and then you can renew it.
- Q: how to tile vanity top and back splash?
- relies upon on if the wall has any flexibility to it now. backerboard fights flex and is moisture or moist impervious. the tile will stick greater effective. tile won't stick properly to painted surfaces and paint mighjt peel below the tile. weakest hyperlink. bypass to a tile health center at abode depot.
- Q: how to install the tin molding around the edge of the tiles
- Usually this is tacked into place with a few small nails. In the past i have experimented with using a contact adhesive to install the tin tiles and the molding strip, but this can be a bad option depending on the embossed pattern in your tiles or molding strip. The best and most secure option is to line the ceilding with ply (9mm thick or more - screwed into your ceiling joists so is secure) then to nail (small tacks) the tiles and the strips into place. You can also position the tiles and strips with contact adhesive to get them all in the right spot then go through and nail off when you are happy with the positioning.
- Q: I‘m getting some of my house tiled and would like to know if I am getting ripped off or not. It is going to be approximalte 600 sq ft with 2 upstairs bathrooms. The installer gave me a quote of $2400 to lay the tile (straight or diagonal, whichever I want). I will have to buy the tile and other materials on my own. The tile is going to be 18x18. The price includes ripping out the carpet and ripping out the tile that is already in the kitchen that will be replaced as well as the tile in the upstairs baths. Also included will be haul away of all the trash. Is this a good price or not?
- Normal price to just install tile and porcelain is no different to install, will range from 4/6 $ a s/f.. So he/ she is doing all the rip out / disposal and prep work for basically free.. If they do check out w/ their references and have all insurances.Liability and workmans comp, then you may well go for it.. Times are slow now and they may very well be cutting you a deal to get a good job. - Q: I have some old dark tile in our entry way. It‘s not an option right now to replace it, so I‘d like to make it look better if possible. When I mop it and it looks nice and shiny. Then when it dries it looks dull. Is there any way to make it shiny all the time?Thanks
- You could try to re-seal the tile. Is your tile glazed? Glazed tiles should never need to be sealed, as the glaze is the sealer. Do a water test first to see if your tile is soaking up water. Put a little water on the tile if it turns dark, then your tile needs to be re-sealed. If you just want to make it shiny, you can try a topical sealer. Your local tile/flooring store should be able to help you pick the best one. There is also something called a 'wear layer' which is an acrylic floor finish that helps to keep you from wearing through the sealer. Again, your local tile store can help you with this step.
- Q: about a year ago i had tile installed on my home but winter is here and i was wondering if i could get carpet installed over the tile without getting the tile damage
- I would recommend just using throw or area rugs over the tile. To lay carpet you must tack the padding to the floor then stretch and staple the the edges of the carpet along the floor boards at the walls. The end results would be tack holes in the tile and after time (walking on the carpeting) the padding will stick to the tiles below and would have to be scraped off if removed causing damage to the tiles.
- Q: My marble counter top is made of tiles. We bought the house and the previous owners installed them. my problem is that the grouts between are chipped and stained. how can i repair them to look new again?
- you need to remove the old grout on the surface and re apply new grout to fix the problem, you can even get grout that is tinted to the colour that you like .
