- Q:I am laying ceramic tile over subflooring using 1/4 inch wonderboard. I am trying to not to have to move or modify existing floorboard trim. If I have 1/4 inch thick tile, 1/4 inch thick wonderboard how much thickness should I assume for adhesive? I have an existing 11/16 gap between subfloor and bottom of floorboard trim. Will I be able to use adhesive to close the gap to make fill the gap or are there other options?
- Not a good idea to try and use the adhesive in that manner to close up that gap.. The adhesive will be approximately an 1/8 th inch.. You ll find no floor is perfectly flat and no base board it truly straight. You asked for other options and the 2 best are to either use a shoe or trim molding after the tile is installed or to take off the base and re use it after the tile is on.. - Q:Having done some work in the bathroom we would like to reuse some of the tiles we took of which arent broken, does anybody have any suggestions as to how we remove the adhesive and grout so that they can be reused?
- really hard to do without breaking them, I have heard that if you get them cold, the mortar can be tapped off, but I always thought they would break, may be cheaper to just replace them
- Q:I am in the process of tiling my bathroom, now that I have the 12 X 12 tiles on the floor and nearly done with them, I need to do the walls behind the toilet sink and cabinet. My question is, how far do I have to move the toilet flange (pipe) forward so the new tiles will not interfere. The toilet sits right on the wall. I used 1/2 backerboard, and I am using a 4x4 tile and thinset to mix and hold it together.
- if you put the backerboard over you existing wall (1/2') and you're going to tile that, (1/4'), and you should have 1/2' space between wall and tank top...then you need an additional 1 1/4''. Obviously you will have to add length to your pipe also.
- Q:so i bought tile but not the bull nose end pieces cause they did not have them for that tile. I tiled all the way out to the edge of the counter and now need a way to finish the edge. I have seen wood edges but what is this called and how do you do it? does it butt up against the tile of does it go over? is a wet tile saw supposed to leave ugly, chipped edges? bought a Brand new blade and it did not help.
- I agree with most of the answers already submitted. My preference for your finish would be the stained oak trim. In my opinion- a wood edge finish for a tiled counter is always superior to other finishes because this edge gets a lot of abuse and the wood can handle it without cracking, breaking or chipping. As for the chipped edges from your tile saw. There are a variety of qualities to blades and saws and tile. You've been challenged by probably not the highest quality in all categories. Not to worry- if you get a sanding stone available at your home repair store you can give the edge a quick rub to smooth the worst of the cuts.
- Q:why is waterproofing done before grouting?why do we need to let the mortar/adhesive dry before grouting?
- Water proofing is done before any tile is set into place.. Water proofing must be done on any horizontal surface in water prone areas such as showers. Not always done out side the shower area, but each case is different. You should allow the bonding material to dry before grouting so the bonding agent, mastic (walls in a non wet area )or a thin set won t bleed through and stain the grout. The only way to ensure of a good bond is to lift tiles during the setting process and make sure you have proper amount of mastic ( walls in a non wet area) or thin set under the tiles.. There are ways to check floor tiles to ensure a bond is to knock on the tiles to see if they sound solid. Hollow sound gives way to a no bond. And NEVER bond to just a green board in a shower or high moisture area. Failure will soon follow if you do. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL

There is a dry wipes often paint, paint more than no, but it is very environmentally friendly, or you use a rag with a little detergent and other things will have the effect of this is a kung fu live, do not impatient! It is too troublesome to find a clean look over the whole!

- Q:Yesterday I bought tile from menards and they are sticky on the backs of them, my question is do I need to use other glue as well? If so what kind of glue?
- These tiles are self sttick, so no other glue is needed. However, the surface of the floor must be clean, dry, and smooth for the tile job to last. Be sure to follow installation instructions carefully. Personally, anywhere water is involved, (bath, kitchen, laundry,) the less joints that water can penetrate, is the better solution. Self stick tiles will no hold up to an overflowing sink or toilet.

- you need to remove the old grout on the surface and re apply new grout to fix the problem, you can even get grout that is tinted to the colour that you like .
- Q:I purchaced this tile in 2003 fromThe Tile Shop. I had an incident occure which led me to look for 5 more tiles. I was told by The Tile Shop that they were discontinued. I‘ve called everywhere( in Kansas and Missouri). So far I haven‘t had any luck. where can I find the ceramic tile color Yosemite Sand 13 inch square. I need atleast 5 of them. Thank You..
- like you said, it's discontinued check the manufacturer colors are not universal
